Greetings! I am KingOscarV and I wanted to share with you the Control Warrior decklist that I've used to attain rank 4 Legend on the EU server. I will not write a long guide for the deck, but I will try to explain why I've made some of the tech choices in the deck.
Edit: Played some more today and got up to Rank 2 with the deck. I later lost a game and went down to rank 3 again, but I will make another attempt at Rank 1 :)
First of I just want to make clear that this is a very defensive deck. Your main goal is to simply outlast your opponent in most matchups until they run out of threats. In some ways you could call it a fatigue warrior, but this deck has more late game cards which you will use to dominate the late game with in most matchups. You should really value your hero power when playing this deck and use it a lot. Let's for example say your on 7 mana and have the choice of playing a Sludge Belcher or a Shieldmaiden, then I would in most situations play the Sludge Belcher since it allows me to use the hero power on the same turn.
Card choices:
Sneed's Old Shredder: I guess the question most of you are wondering about when looking at the decklist is "Why Sneed's?". The card is put in the deck to serve as a late game card, I earlier used Harrison Jones in this spot, but found out that the deck sometimes ran out of minions. So I play Sneeds because it's a very sticky minion. It's a card that is very difficuilt to deal with for any deck and I would argue that it's a better card than Ysera against Control Warrior and Priest. Another reason why I choose it over 9 mana cards like Ysera or even Nefarian is it's mana cost. I want to use my hero power as much as possible when playing this deck. I value it a lot! So therefore Sneeds allows me to use my hero power and play my late game minion when I'm on 10 mana. That can make a huge difference against aggressive deck like midrange Hunter, Druid, Tempo mage etc...
Ironbeak Owl: Having a silence can always come in handy, especially with secret paladins buffing their minions and mage and hunter playing Mad Scientist. The main reason why I added the card to the deck is for the fear of Sylvanas Windrunner. That is a card than can completely screw you up, especially if you have a Sneeds Old Shredder on the board. All in all I think that it's a very good thing to have a silence available to you, so I the owl deserves it's spot in the deck.
Revenge: Mostly serves the purpose of clearing the board of 1 health minions against aggressive decks like Face Hunter and secret paladin. The additional effect of dealing 3 damage once your health is low is a benefit big enough to play it instead of Whirlwind in my opinion. Can also be used as a proc for execute or to enrage Grommash Hellscream.
FAQ:
Why aren't you playing Ysera or Alexstraza?
Alexstraza is a card that I find to be good mostly in the situation where you are starting to stablize against aggressive decks, but you are still low on health. In the deck cards like Justicar and Shieldmaiden serves the same purpose and I find Alexstraza a bit clunky on 9 mana since I can't use my hero power the same turn. I rarely want to use Alexstraza aggresively since this deck is really defensive. Just gain a bunch of armor and you win against most decks. The reason I don't play Ysera is because I find the Sneeds Old Shredder often does the job better.
Might add more info in this description if there's any question that's asked frequently.
good deck ,nice description all in all a +1 :)
Hi, great deck i just crafted grommash to play this deck but i dont have barron geddon- replaced it with loatheb.. what u think is the best replacement?
Is there any way Gorehowl can fit in this deck?
very good deck easy to play aswel :D
@XMadara
I have tried playing Varian Wrynn and make it work but unfortunately it is not as effective as it may sound. The card is good but there is too much RNG involved in the draws. At times you draw 3 spells and it's nothing but a 7/7 on board and at times you get some good minions that hold the board but having said that it a 50/50 chance to get a good RNG on the draws.
I would suggest you to craft in the order listed below so other decks would benefit from it as well.
I was a bit reluctant to craft Geddon at first but still went ahead and crafted one. It was totally worth it, Geddon has won as many matched as Sylvanas or Grom or any other legendary in the deck.
@KingOscarV - The deck works like a miracle, I have replaced Sneeds (do not have the card) with Alex, Revenge with Harrison and Owl with another brawl just to suite the current meta.
Overall the deck rock!!!!!
Currently - 31/ 6
Thanks for the deck. Only got to play three games so far and won all three. Will try more later. Very fun, but long games.
Not having [card]Grommash Hellscream[/card] or [card]Sneed's Old Shredder[/card], I had to substitute Ragnaros the Firelord and Cairne Bloodhoof which may account for some longer fatigue games instead.
Hi. Deck looks super fun. I shall for sure give it a whirl later. I do have a question though. Can you explain why you are not running shieldslams? In games that go to fatigue, acolyte of pain can be a liability, so i'm intrigued as to why you took those out instead of the acolytes.
This is a sage lesson on reading decklists drunk. la la la la la la
Lost 2 ranks with it, from 8 to 10. Like the idea and it's easier to deal with aggro decks (i'm playing Lokshadow's greedy dragon deck atm), but lost almost to all handlocks/warlocks and had difficulties with pallies.
Thanks for the deck though!
Maybe my luck and timing were bad. ...as always :D
dont see how this deck is better then traditional control warrior, if nothing else it has no steam and gets demolished. So no
Variety is the spice of life.
Nice list, I remember playing against you a few months back right after tgt. you were playing frost giant combo warrior with garrison commander i think?
Hey! Great deck, thanks a lot for sharing.
I only have enough dust for one legendary, and I"m missing BOTH Justicar Trueheart and Dr. Boom. Would you recommend I craft Justicar first for the improved hero power, and simply substitute out Dr. Boom as best I can? Or would you recommend I craft Dr. Boom first for a reason I'm missing?
at your place, i'd rather craft Dr.Boom since it is used in more decks than Justicar. If you ever decide to change the class, Boom will be more useful
Thanks for your reply!
I recently disenchanted my Sneed's. Damn!
Very good deck :D. i've made only one change out oak for spellbreaker ;)....
I can understand your reasoning, but, owl is used instead of spellbreaker for a reason. 4 mana is too much for a silence, and the body is terrible, just as owl dies to a 1 drop, spellbreaker dies to a 2 drop, sometimes a 1 drop also. You are playing the card for silence, not for the body.
Think about when you would play the silence, its going to combo with other cards, and there is a VERY big difference in 2 mana. It's going to die anyways, so why spend more mana on it?
nice deck (lol)
Any deck that runs two Sludge Belcher and Sneed's Old Shredder and Sylvanas Windrunner really should try to fit Kel'Thuzad in there. I know it's an extremely tight deck as is, and you're already running one of a few essentials to compensate, but the synergy is just too good to pass up!
