*Update* 14/03 hit rank 3 and legend in sights. *update*
So this is the deck that I'll use to climb the ladder in march, http://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/class-discussion/shaman/34686-march-2015-lets-out-control-the-meta you can follow the progress and there you can find explanation for card switches and for some cards.
Let's go through some cards:
Wild Pyromancer is a card that sees surprisingly little play in shaman even though ladder is still full of hunters. Card also works really well against paladins and any "deathrattle: spawn a minion". Shaman is the best class after priest to use this card since we have healing totem that mitigates the friendly fire of this card.
Malygos doesn't see light of day in shaman decks if they're not OTK decks due to his high cost which makes comboing him with spells almost impossible. In this deck he serves as late game threat that people don't expect. When Malygos gets played (preferably with 6 dmg Earth Shock or 8 dmg Lightning Bolt) your opponents has 3 choices: Hard removal sucks but your other threats are more safe, Silence turns maly into full tank mode and usually I get atleast 3 for 1 with him. If the opponent doesn't deal with maly he has to taste the bitter 7+ aoe for 3 mana which should basically end the game as you've fought for board presence the whole game.
Sea Giant I'm actually waiting when the more known shaman players find this card and realise how well it synergises with current shaman. First of all he is a BGH threat so if he gets BGH'd Neptulon and Dr. Boom can roam free. Those 2 cards also add ALOT of bodies to make playing Sea Giant alot easier (Boom alone drops the cost of Sea Giant by 3). Then you have other standard shaman stuff like Haunted Creeper and Feral Spirit and our hero power. Add to that opponents 2-3 minions on board and suddenly your giant isn't that costly.
I'll post mulligan and gameplay advices if there's demand for them! =)
Early winrates:
Warlock: 4-0
Warrior: 4-0
Hunter: 8-1
Druid: 2-2
Mage: 5-2
Priest: 4-0
Total: 27-5
Its not even remotely similiar deck to those OTK maly decks. The spells of the deck are meant to control the board and you kill your opponent with your minions. There's nothing better than hitting 6 dmg earthshock to opponents sylvanas or last line defense sludge belcher ;) Malygos is a card that requires answer by the opponent. Hard removal: well atleast our other big guys are more safe, Silence: Malygos turns into 3 for 1 most of the time, Left alone: boy have you made a mistake, enjoy those +7 dmg lightning strikes that wipe anything you bring to the board.
You might as well play Ysera then. By the time you play Malygos you've surely used most of your 3 (sic!) direct damage spells.
As I said before the deck is meant to CONTROL, not OTK burst the opponent down, and malygos works in that regard alot better than Ysera except if ysera draws awakening. And no, most of the times I get good spell usage of malygos, still thinking about switching between rockbiter and 2nd lightning bolt though.
How exactly does Maly work better if you've got no spells to pair him with? You are likely to burn your few direct spells before T9 and you can't even rely on Maly+Storm combo for fear of Maly removal before you storm the next turn.
He has the same attack as Ysera and less health. And without spells he doesn't do anything, unlike Ysera. I just don't see how he could be better control-wise.
A) You dont decide what you draw = you might not even draw those 1-cost spells before malygos is playable. B) The deck's minions are so sticky that they outvalue your opponent REALLY hard with flametongue totem etc. C) Opponents have just x amount of removal, it ends at some point and we have more big hitter than 95% of the decks have removal. D) They have the same 12 health, dun know why you think they have different ^^
Even if Malygos gets rekt on the enemy turn you still got the 1 mana spell value (which is just amazing when you earth shock sylvanas or tirion etc. or lightning bolt giant / rag. THAT means that Malygos has actual battlecry in most cases when I play him. Where Ysera is just so slow that if he gets played in same situation and removed on the enemy turn you just spent 9 mana on something they removed and got a dream card that most likely will not give you your tempo back which you just lost. I played Ysera in this deck before but she is just too slow in the current meta.
