Howdy all!
A midrange pally I came up with, this is just a basis for a Token-centric deck, change to fit your playstyle and see what works for you.
Card Choices:
Equality: This card destroys bulky boards, especially effective vs. Handlock and Druids. Combine with consecration to deal with opponent's boards easily.
Shielded Minibot: This guy trades very well, capable of removing 4 hp creatures, as well as being resistant to AoE.
Aldor Peacekeeper: Completely shuts down fatties, taking pressure off of you and allowing for more efficient trades.
Muster for Battle: Hard to efficiently remove without AoE, combos well with Knife Juggler and Quartermaster, not even that slow a card due to the integrated Light's Justice.
Blessing of Kings: A 4/4 with charge, this card combos well with most of your weenies. Even turning a 1/1 into a 5/5 is a strong play as it won't be easy to remove. Since I'm also running Echoing Ooze the potential combo there is very tempting.
Consecration: AoE spell, awesome in any aggro MU and combined with Equality wrecks Control.
Quartermaster: Combined with Muster for Battle gives you a pseudo 8/11 for 5 mana. Talk about value. Only running one as value greatly diminishes w/o Muster for Battle.
Lay on Hands: Refuel station. Fills your hand and buys you time to play what you draw.
Tirion Fordring: Short of a silence or transform this guy will ruin your opponent's day. Hard to get rid of and Ashbringer punishes your opponent long after Tirion falls.
Echoing Ooze/Haunted Creeper: Tokens for synergy with things like Equality and other things in the deck.
Knife Juggler: Always dishes out hurt in this deck, synergizes well with Muster for Battle and Equality and Dr. Boom.
Big Game Hunter: Dr. Boom killer. That's the whole reason we run this card. EDIT (2015-02-12): I dropped BGH for another equality, and it seems to be more versatile.
Cult Master: You have so many tokens in this deck that the card draw potential is absurd, plus it leaves a decent body behind.
Piloted Shredder: Sticky minion with good attack, great offensive play.
Loatheb: Great body that stalls removal and lethal combos, buys you time to maintain pressure.
Sludge Belcher: Slows down aggro and protects your important minions, also great with Cult Master.
Dr. Boom: Three creatures with one card is awesome in a token deck, plus the integrated minion removal is awesome.
Kel'Thuzad: You almost always have targets to resurrect, turning a small advantage into a large one. Awesome way to recycle Boom Bots.
Sea Giant: Again, you have a ton of tokens. I rarely play this guy for more than 5 mana, YMMV.
Gameplay Strategies:
Decide early on how you'll win. Sometimes it's speed, sometimes it's stalling then overwhelming, sometimes it's just out-gassing your opponent.
If you need to out gas your opponent, then you might drop Cult Master on turn 4 and cash in on turn 3's Muster for Battle instead of hoping to topdeck Quartermaster on turn 5.
In general, hit hard, refuel and repeat. Compared to the standard midrange-pally, you're more vulnerable to sweepers due to the lack of recovery mechanisms plus the low curve. On the flip side, you can easily out-gas them due to draw plus the surprise Sea Giant.
Mulligan:
Throw away Equality, Big Game Hunter and anything that costs more than 3 mana. Only keep Piloted Shredder if you already have a perfect curve in hand from the get go.
General Matchup Info:
Aggro: Control the board and then stall until they burn out. If you can't stall long enough for burn out (say against Face Hunter), race them for damage.
Midrange: Maintain board presence until you draw your big threats. If you think AoE is coming down next turn, cash in with Cult Master and bait it out before going all out again.
Control: Go fast, you can't stall to a win. However, you can't win w/o board presence/control, so avoid feeding value to Zombie Chow and Fiery War Axe.
Viable for Legend... ary?
Good luck and have fun!
Tirion is the best option, there is no "good replacement."
Chromaggus doesn't effect the board, and Rag is too slow as it more likely than not will just ping a token. Emperor is your best bet if you don't have Tirion, tho Sylvanas is good too thanks to the MC effect.
I'm pleased to hear that it's working well for you and that you adapted it to fit your needs. I was hitting a good number of Priests and Warriors trying to hard-counter the meta and that's where the Echoing Ooze + BoK combo comes in to push for the win, it's faster than most control decks can deal with in a single turn.
Well Met Mate!
I thought this deck was missing something. Who in their right mind doesn't put truesilver in a paladin deck. Not including it is beyond dumb. It's best weapon in the game and fights meta so well.
Sure it's a great value card. However, it doesn't directly synergize with anything in the deck and my 4 slot is already stuffed. You can run it if you want, but truth be told every time I dropped a card for it I wanted the card I dropped more often then I wanted the Truesilver.
What a great response to someone posting their deck.
How do you feel about -1Echoing Ooze +1 Piloted Sky Golem
It slants the deck towards the late game and reduces the consistency of the Echoing Ooze + Blessing of Kings combo, but if you need a little more late game presence that will definitely work. :)
Have you considered Annoy-o-Tron? It works well in these Paladin decks which focus more on the earlygame.
Yes I have, the only reason I don't run it is the minibot/juggler trades better and the other 2 drops spawn multiple tokens. However, they are certainly worth using if you're facing a lot of warrior or hunter.
Great deck ! Strong and funny.
I need to play more games with it, but it seems easy to build card avantage and exhaust the opponent : often I just have toooo many solutions and minions on board and in hand :D
What about using Bolvar Fordragon ?
Bolvar definitely has more potential in this deck than in standard pally decks, but I don't like him since he's always a dead topdeck, and thus a tad too slow for my liking.
this is probably the best deck you've come up with so far, i haven't dropped a game with it yet, 8-0.
everything synergizes very well together and it feels different than the other paladin decks
Great deck! I'm having a wild ride with it -- I've had 2 5-game winning streaks, and a 5-game losing streak! Seems like the losses have all been very close (although that could be wishful remembering on my part). A couple of control decks just took me apart, but I'm winning probably 40% of those match-ups. Against aggro, I'm doing more like 60%. If only I were running into more aggro in the meta these days!
Anyway, thanks for a fresh take on the Pally.
Have you considered Argent Protector over Shielded Minibot? It's not as good of a 2 drop, but certainly better later in the game, and works quite nicely with a number of other minions that you do include. Giving DS to a Cult Master, Knife Juggler or Echoing Ooze seems pretty great. It also serves to "heal" your minions after an Equality, which may be relevant occasionally.
It also makes a T10 KT even more devastating, though that sort of win-more application shouldn't be a deciding factor.
I have considered Argent Protector, but since I run so many 1 attack minions I ultimately decided I'd be making makeshift Argent Squires more often than not.
In a more top heavy Paladin deck Argent Protector is simply amazing, but this deck I feel is too low on the mana curve for it.
I've had a couple of games where Argent Protector on a dude after a muster guarantees at least one target for the Quartermaster in case of AOE. Also, it's a pretty great feeling to throw out a shielded Kel'Thuzad on turn 10, especially with a nice board presence.
What to replace Tirion with?
Oh man, tirion, that guy has been avoiding my legendary stockpile since beta.
that was soooo not helpful
Wrecked with this last night. Went 8-2, aggro can't touch it, only losses came from control warriors.
