Hey all, long time priest player here. I usually make all kinds of decks with priest to have some fun with. This time I wanted to make a deck revolved around Dark Inquisitor Xanesh. The deck performed so well (11 win streak at some point) that I decided to keep playing it until I hit legend.

1) Gameplan
Control the board early game. Lifesteal with Apotheosis on big minions like a rushing Fleethoof Pearltusk to stay alive until you can stick a board and hit them in the face or they run out of cards in their hand/deck.

2) Card choices/alternatives

In this section I'll try to clarify some card choices and give alternative options. The deck is fairly heavy on Legendaries. Quite a few of them are definitely not neccesary but do feel good and/or are fun to play.
Core cards of the deck:

  • Auto-includes
Some standard good priest cards we just put in almost any priest deck when we start building it. Cards like Raise Dead, Apotheosis, Renew, Hysteria and  Soul Mirror
  • Good cards
Draconic Studies give us a turn 1 play and also turn 2-4 play often.

Some auto-includes for the corrupt package that don't need further clarification are InsightAuspicious SpiritsDark Inquisitor Xanesh and Y'Shaarj, the Defiler.

    -Circus Medic

Sometimes we play this for healing and a minion on board. If we have other options of clearing or have a big apotheosis heal coming soon then we'd rather wait for the corrupt though. 3/4 dealing 4 damage for 2 or 4 mana is really good tempo. We can also throw the damage on face for a total of 16 face damage out of hand after we get it back from Y'Shaarj, the Defiler

    -Fleethoof Pearltusk

This is an amazing card in this deck. We almost never want to play this Uncorrupted. 8/8 buffed with Apotheosis to 10/11 that has rush often times just wins us the game on the spot. Healing for 10 against Aggro and afterwards they have to sink damage into it to clear is just gamewinning.

    -Carnival Clown

This is a greedy card to win against Control. Against Aggro we sometimes play it uncorrupted. Against Control we play it after Y'Shaarj and have a high chance of getting it back with Raise Dead. This is one of the ways we can win against Warlock. If you run G'huun the Blood God You can corrupt a discounted Carnival Clown to get it back from Y'Shaarj, the Defiler

    -Venomous Scorpid

We play this over other 3-mana options like Fairground Fool or Darkmoon Dirigible. Our 3-mana card often gets played on turn 3 after passing the previous turns. Uncorrupted the two cards just feel too weak. Lategame when they are Corrupted they don't feel impactful anymore. So we'd rather have the flexibilty of dicovering a spell.

Optional cards
-Serena Bloodfeather

is definitely not needed. You can replace her with some removal like Holy Smite or Shadow Word: Death.

-The Nameless One

is not a must-have but does feel really nice to play often. Silencing paladin buffs or becoming a 4/4 rush (windfury) Crabrider gives good tempo.

-Blademaster Samuro and Xyrella

I'd play at least one between Blademaster Samuro and Xyrella for some boardclear. I didn't use Samuro for the longest time since the only buff in our deck is Apotheosis. You could also run other board clears like Condemn (Rank 1) or Holy Nova as substition but they do feel worse because they do 2 damage instead of 3 for most of the game.

-G'huun the Blood God

gives us some late game card draw and good tempo (by paying life). We need a 6+ mana card to corrupt our Fleethoof Pearltusk when we don't draw Dark Inquisitor Xanesh. I used Claw Machine for the earlier versions of the deck. G'huun does have the advantage that it Corrupts Carnival Clown when it's discounted.

-Draconic Studies and Devouring Plague

You can play 1 or 2 of these cards. Draconic Studies is a value card you can replace with a second Devouring Plague or Holy Smite if you are having trouble against Aggro. Devouring Plague also works decent with Xyrella.

-Palm Reading and Renew

You can play 1 of Renew if you want a card slot to mess around with. The flexibilty of discovering cards is really good but we have Venomous Scorpid too.

Palm Reading also doesn't feel bad to play. Making non-discounted Auspicious Spirits easier to corrupt and discovering a spell we need in the moment or for the matchup.

Sometimes we will want to discover a fairly expensive spell to Corrupt our cards. Picking spells you don't often see like Idol of Y'Shaarj or Initiation will happen.

 -Moonfang

is a fun card to try. Against classes that don't play hard removal like Hunter, Demon Hunter, Paladin and most Rogue and Warrior decks sticking an Apotheosis on it can win you the game.

This will be the guide for now. If there is interest in the deck I'll try to make a Mulligan/Matchup section.

Thanks for reading and GL HF!
