After ~2 years of casual on-and-off playing I just hit Legend for the very first time!!! I'm excited enough about it that I wanted to post the deck I used here. I haven't seen any other super successful N'Zoth Paladin decks so maybe you'll find this one works for you!
The idea behind this deck was to make a N'Zoth, God of the Deep Paladin build work effectively in the current meta. The problem with most other N'Zoth builds I tried was that they were too slow and got torn apart by the numerous aggro decks out there right now. So for this deck, I didn't go for that massive "entire board full of 8/8's" N'Zoth play. Instead, you'll get a board full of ~4/5's but I found that is typically enough.
MULLIGAN GUIDE
Always keep First Day of School, Aldor Attendant, Hand of A'dal, Loot Hoarder and Redscale Dragontamer.
Keep Libram of Wisdom if you also have Aldor Attendant.
Keep Salhet's Pride if you have other good 1 and 2 turn plays.
Keep Lord Barov and Animated Broomstick against Shaman.
Only keep Pen Flinger if you also have Libram of Wisdom and Aldor Attendant. It's also nice to have The Coin as well.
GENERAL STRATEGY
The general goal with this deck is to play N'Zoth as early as possible with a big enough board to win the game or force your opponent to use all their removal allowing your Libram of Hope's and Hammer of the Naaru's to finish the job. Circus Amalgam is your bread and butter here. Not only is it excellent ammo for N'Zoth, it also provides some crucial cover for your face as a taunt. Redscale Dragontamer will allow you to consistently draw your Amalgams while also grabbing Nozdormu the Timeless as well (more on him later).
You typically have 3 possible win conditions:
1) Overwhelm your opponent with a full board of medium-sized minions generated by N'Zoth, God of the Deep
2) Mow through everything your opponent plays and their face with Pen Flingers and 0 cost Libram of Wisdoms replenished with Lady Liadrin. Strategic use of Lord Barov and Libram of Justice is key in these situations.
3) Simply out-tempoing your opponent until they run out of things to play
In the early game, do everything you can to keep minions on the board. This is Paladin after all so you are going to need things to buff. I typically prioritized minions over face damage and didn't try to finish an opponent off until I had firm control of the board.
Perhaps the most interesting card in this deck is Nozdormu the Timeless. Timing when to play him properly is tricky. Ideally, he not only puts an 8/8 in your N'Zoth rez pool, he ramps you straight to 10 mana allowing you to drop N'Zoth, God of the Deep on turn 6 or 7 presenting a formidable challenge for your opponent. HOWEVER, the 10 mana boost for your opponent can also ruin your day. Be extremely cautious playing Nozdormu early against Rogue, Druid, Priest, or other Paladins. They can have enough power in hand to take full advantage of all that extra mana. Against those matchups, I often held Nozdormu until later when he is simply a very efficient 4 mana 8/8, preferably getting him into the rez pool for N'Zoth. Against some of the Agro decks out there like Shaman and Demon Hunter, the extra mana is often a waste for them and they will not be able to take full advantage of the boost giving you the upper hand.
A few final words of advice. Against big board decks (Clown Druid, Evolve Shaman, Edwin Rogue) do everything possible to hold on to your limited amount of board clear cards. Keep Lord Barov + Animated Broomstick or Libram of Justice + Pen Flingers reserved for those big boards that need to be cleared. The rest of this deck plays just like a Libram or Broom Paladin so go read somebody else's much better guide on those! Lastly, don't be afraid to drop that N'Zoth, God of the Deep too soon. I found it was typically better to use him earlier rather than late even if he didn't quite get me a full board.
I hope you guys find this deck interesting and maybe have some luck against those Evolve Shamans and Agro Demon Hunters out there. I made it from Diamond 8 to Legend (my first time!!) with this deck and it served me pretty well. Thanks for reading and good luck out there!
Recommended replacement for Nozdormu?
I haven't played it without Nozdormu so I haven't tested anything else. Just looking through some possible replacements I'd probably try a Amber Watcher, Big Ol' Whelp, Evasive Wyrm, or Onyx Magescribe. All of these would keep 3 dragons in the deck to help Redscale Dragontamer stay consistent.
You could also try something a little more crazy like Magtheridon, Sathrovarr, or Silas Darkmoon. Although, all of those options might be too slow against aggro....
Good luck!
amazing, I signed up just to congratulate you. the deck is a lot of fun to play
I'm really glad you liked it!
