Hello there, long time since my last post here :P how you guys doing? So i was not enjoying the meta pré-nerf at all facing always the same two decks (one insta lose and the mirror was actually so boring and rng fiesta) but after the nerfs i cameback to try again and turns out that Hooktusk tempo rogue is really enjoyable to play, also lots of cool stuff around with the other classes, i'm really liking it right now.
That was a 2 day climb to legend guys from Rank 5 zero star to Legend with 64% winrate (58-33) winning mostly against the both most popular classes which are Hunter and Mage (at least in those ranks) as you will see in the stats below.
Mulligans:
Backstab
Pilfer
Underbelly Fence (Keep it if you already have Blink Fox or Pilfer on hand)
SI:7 Agent (keep it on coin against Aggro)
EVIL Miscreant (Keep it on Coin)
Edwin VanCleef (Keep it on coin)
Blink Fox
Vendetta (Keep it if you already have Blink Fox or Pilfer on hand)
Captain Hooktusk
Proof
Current Overall Winrate:
So yeah i hope you guys enjoy it aswell :) i had a great time with that climb, let me know if you guys are excited for the new changes on June in the comments and feel free to ask any questions. GL HF!
I've removed 2x Mecharoo for 2x Shadowstep. I think its pretty important here to get more value from Togg or EVIL Cable Rat. For this reason I've replaced Leeroy Jenkins with Edwin VanCleef cuz he become a monster with so much cheap cards used. Now Im consider about putting Leeroy back and I think Lifedrinker can be salvation in some situation.
Gosh all those Mages and Warriors in ladder are pissing me off, but I finally reached rank 5 after 70 or so matches. I didn't check winrates but I maxed out on gold for today while playing only this deck, so that's at least 30 win. It was a bit more than that actually, so I'd assume it's between 40-50% winrate.
I'll check the stats tomorrow to be sure, thank you for the deck.
(and yes, 70 matches to get to rank 5.. I lost some, got it back, then lost it again, etc., this deck is not bad, but with my luck...)
Update:
I couldn't play that much today but out of 26 games I got a 54% winrate, I won against aggro decks most of the time (like Hunters, Token Druid, etc.) but lose against Mages and Warriors. There's a chance against both classes if you are lucky or they are unlucky getting certain cards, but yeah, those classes are overpowered right now.
i feel you buddy, same here, being on top for an entire match and then losing to a single top deck is tough
Man, I was Rank 1 (3 stars), I`ve got my ass kicked back to Rank 3. If I'm pissed? Noooo! I just want all those bomb warriors and giant mages to die a horrible death...
Just gotta tell that your deck helped climb to Rank 1 today. I was at Rank 5 two days ago and struggling to play a rogue deck against a meta full of warriors/mages/hunters/Shamans with their consistent decks.
Thanks a lot.
Ah, and my winrate against warriors just increase, I learned a few tricks to use against them on the early game that help me to finish them off before they take my resources. Currently 12-13 against them. Hunters, mages, token Druids and Murloc Shamans are no match for this deck if you learn how to avoid their board filling.
I'm struggling against bomb warriors. What tricks do you use specifically?

Never give up guys, there is always an way in this game you must believe!!!
13-19 against warrior with this deck
i have a positive win rate vs warriors, however in aggro matchups i am often losing mostly to a ridiculous top deck on my opponents end, that's something that really gets me tilted every time
hi there! i think i could use a bit of coaching with the deck, i am pretty sure i am making a lot of misplays as i am losing games i believe i should not.
is there anything i should pay attention to besides the mulligan guide you've provided?
Thanks!
Hey, like i said before know how to play the matchups, how to make your value trades, where to go face everything matters in this game, right now i'm pretty busy trying to push for high legend and i dont got many time for it but after this season end i could help you with that.
sounds cool! right now i’m happy at rank 5, been getting there ever since i started to play HS some 5-6 months ago, so i’m not exactly terrible, just missing the final ‘tweaks’ so that i can finally hit legend ;) any help any time would be appreciated
...i am pretty sure that my biggest problem is trading and to an extent mulligan, so if you could help me improve there - especially the trading part, i should be good
in the the meantime i’ll just continue playing this deck exclusively and try to improve on my own ;)
Warlocks, mages, mech hunters, and warriors destroy this deck...unfortunately those are the classes that are flooding the rank 5-10ish ranks atm. Solid deck, but not sure how great the climb is with it atm from 5- legend.
The deck does very well against mage unless they really draw the nuts. I am 5-1 in legend vs. mage with this deck. Zoolock and mech hunter is all about keeping their board clear. The bombs from the more aggro mech hunter are for sure a problem, but I am still 8-5 vs. Hunter and I'm sure Reinan would say it "farms" hunters and mages. I agree moreso on the mage part. The real bad matchups seems to be the Rogue mirror and Control Warrior imo. Even then I am 5-3 vs. Warrior since bomb and mecha'thun are more beatable.
HSReplay winrate is slightly down to 57% but still climbable. Data from Legend-5 shows <50% WR against Warrior and Zoolock, but >50% for all other major archetypes, a devastating 71+% against Murloc Shaman and 64% overall against Hunter.
Maybe I've just had bad luck. But I've been playing this deck for 2 days and have been bouncing between rank 6 and 7, never going to 8, never going to 5. Pretty shitty feeling tbh
I've been playing this deck for a day and it got me from rank 5 to 3/1 right now. This deck is insane against hunters and pretty good vs mages, but warrior is still a tough match up and struggle a lot against their ability to remove and build up armor. Lucky me I haven't faced many warriors at my rank. Zoo Locks, Murloc Shamans, Token Druids are all about board control which you can achieve by a good mulligan and never letting them have more than one minion on board.
If you face many mech huntards, just don't let them keep not even one mech (even bombs) on board. And never fill your board coz of their removal with Missile Launcher and Venomizer.
I'm currently 10-1 against hunters. I find them the easiest match up.
I have helped at least 5 friends mine to get legend with this deck they all got it ver quickly with an insane winrate, variance happens in HS but more important is how you pilot it and how much you understand the matchups.
of all the classes you mentioned only warrior is a problem.
@Gamerpanda, Rogue mirror is mostly decided by Edwin VanCleef if they are playing Shark deck this is problably the only real threat of their entire deck other than that Hooktusk is very favorable in my experience because you are constantly putting pressure and they are looking for highrolls lackeys from Shark which doens't always happens you need a couple combination of cards to pull that off, if you are playing against other Hooktusk deck, oh well i hope you draw it first buddy.
Just fell from 6-8 not impressed. And yes I know how to play, have like 40 games. Hookstusk feels really slow. Good removal card, but I would hardly say it's a good pressure card. You drop it and more or less kill the pirates you summoned while clearing, or leave them close to death and they get cleared by easy removal next turn.
Sorry, not trying to be a hater or troll or anything. I think it's a great deck, but doesn't feel that viable from rank 10-5. Maybe 5-lege, idk.
Andoris, are u kidding me? Hooktusk is hands down one of the strongest tempo card in standard, how can u say you know how to play with just 40 games and you are struggiling hard to get past Rank 5? Come on, stop ignoring what i just said if you are not being able to climb with that you must have doing something really wrong.
Ok So for anyone reading this thread, disregard anything I wrote. I spent some time with Reinan tonight in HS going over strats and games and he helped me understand the deck. He was an amazing coach and took a lot of time to watch me play. This deck is incredible! I was making a lot of mistakes before going over it with him. Climbed from 8-5, was super fun :)
