Hey guys!
Just took this awesome and fun deck to legend. It is a midrange paladin with many buff mechanichs which allow you to build some huge and impressive board states your opponent can't handle :)
Hope you will enjoy the deck.
Game strategy
I choose to start with the game strategy since the mulligan is partly decided by this. This deck is best when it is played out as a midrange deck - With that I mean that in general you want to get a lot of buff value like from both arena fanatic and valanyr. By this I mean that often you wanna do some slow turn with for example jamming out arena fanatic on a big fat hand before you start pressuring your opponent the following turns.
However in some match ups you have to go full aggro, and that is especially the case against Kingsbane rogue. This is a match up where you just want to kill them before they find their peaces and starts healing out of range. So against Rogue you can't be too greedy with you buffs.
Against aggro decks you also do not want to be too greedy with getting buff values. This deck plays no removal, so if you play it too slow against aggro, you will just get run over by them.
An important aspect of this deck is to be able to recognize when to go aggressive and when to take it slow and get the buff value in. It depends both on the game state and match ups. Against druid you often will be able to cash in buff value since you don't wanna play to hard into plague.
Uther is in the deck for two purposes; 1. It is a great control tool, 2. It gives you possibility to heal a lot if needed as well as pushing 15 damage.
To sum it up: In general you want to take some slow turns in order to generate greater pressure later on. But try to recognize the game state on when you can't allow yourself to take it too slowly (often against aggro and Kingsbane this will be the case).
Mulligan strategy
The mulligan is hard with this deck, at least in my experience. But to point out the obvious, keleseth is always a keep.
If you want to make the mulligan easy for yourself hard mulligan for the 1 drops and keleseth. You should do fine if you do so.
If you are on coin, I think it might be right to keep both chain gangs and arena fanatic given that you can go coin Fanatic into buffed chain gang on turn four. Against Druid this is usually very strong. However, when keeping chain gangs in mulligan, you denies yourself of the possibility of getting the keleseth buff on them, so this defenetly have an down side.
Personally, I would recommend to go on the easy mulligan strategy with looking for keleseth and 1 drops. When trying to be too fancy in the mulligan it sometimes will backfire.
Hope this was in any way helpful. If any questions stays unanswered, please feel free to use the comment section below :)
This deck is so much fun! Thank you! I'm 13-4 with it, however, on low ranks on the ladder - but hey, people down there and far away from legendary ranks also want to have fun, don't they? ;-)
The amazing thing is that you always seem to have an answer with this deck, and you can play a lot of things that your opponent doesn't expect. Big fun :-)
Love this deck! With all of the buffing going on, I call it the "Gym Rat" Paladin. Always love playing a different deck within a meta-popular class...well until the odd paladin nerf.
I really, really want to believe that this is ladder competitive and viable.... but it seems fishy.
Do you have any stats proof regarding winrates and matchups for example? That said, I've wanted handbuff pally to work since mean streets, so I will 100% be trying this whether or not it really works!
Hey, I don't have the stats. But I would guess it my WR was about 60% from rank 4 to legend. This deck is far from OP or stronger than decks like Kingsbane and OTK pally. I made this deck mainly to play something else than everyone else and trying to really enjoy playing games :) So far, I really enjoy playing it, and it feels OK, but not broke back at all.
I would not recommend the deck if you want to do some hard laddering, than there are multiple decks that are better if thats your purpose. Hope this was clarifying in any way :)
Is there any replacement for valanyr?
Legend proof?
Also is there no room for Glowstone Technician? :(
Not OP, but I think the big potential issue with Glowstone is that you already have cards that force you to lose board tempo in favor of handbuff strategy. You'd either have to cut 1x Arena fanatic to run 2 of these, but I think maybe finding room for 1x Glowstone is workable. My vote would be for cutting 1x Fire Fly in favor of 1x Glowstone maybe, as I feel that it's a potential area for tweaking (there's a LOT of early game buff here which feels maybe less than optimal.
I agree 100%... Plus there is the issue of nerfs announced today, which will impact Saronites and further degrade buff decks...
Congrats on the deck - looks solid and fun! I run a cheaper version of it, which has somewhat similar game strategy. Spirit of the Tiger gives some great value out of spells that draw you also a card. Cheers!
Spirit Tiger Tarim
This deck is still fantastic even in the Rastakhan's Rumble meta! Thank you for sharing & here's my showcase!
Well Met! I created a video showcasing this deck. I hope that you will enjoy it and learn something new. Thanks and cheers!
This looks like a fun deck. Any replacement for Uther?
Yeah, Uther is not needed. You could replace it with Tirion or a spellbreaker for an example :)
I am really keen to give this a try. No charge minions though?
If you find some charge minions that you think might suit the deck, then feel free to try them out :) Personally I wasn't able to do that.
I LOVE playing a midrange buff pally. Votes up for trying to make it work in the current meta.
