Overview: I am a multiseason legend player who got to legend last season with this Spell Hunter Deck. I am not a high ranked legend because I play on 2 accounts and my summer job limits how much time I can play but regardless this is a top tier deck that can get you to legend. This Spell Hunter deck has personally been one of my favorite decks I have ever played. It has a perfect mix of midrange, aggro, control, and skill due to all of the flexible options it provides. The Emerald Spellstone and To My Side allow for incredible midgame potential and are what the deck is based around, that and Rhok'delar and Deathstalker Rexxar as legendaries. The rest of the deck provides good removal and overall value plays with Animal Companion, Wandering Monster, Flanking Strike, and the rest of the deck basically allowing for value removal or creature production (sometimes both). The skill in this deck revolves around when to play what secret, creatures to produce with Rexxar, and efficient removal of the opponents options.
Cards:
- Arcane Shot: Only run 1 because it is only OK removal and can combo well with a Hunter's Mark if there is a taunt in the way of the target you want to hit.
- Candleshot: Good removal and solid turn 1 play against classes like Heal Zoolock, Odd Pally, or any deck with big creatures that you would Hunter' Mark.
- Hunter's Mark: Great form of removal that combos with basically every removal card in the deck.
- Tracking: Also a solid turn 1 play and helps cycle the deck and potentially get rid of cards you don't need. Like Hunter's Mark isn't super important against Odd Pally but Unleash the Hounds is for his wide board but weak board.
- Explosive Trap: Worst trap in my opinion but is needed for the aggro matchups or matchups that like to go wide. Either they attack and kill their board or it buys you some turns.
- Freezing Trap: Best Trap versus big decks, really beats the Evenlock Mountain Giant play and the large taunts played by Druid.
- Rat Trap: I run 1 because if the person play around it they aren't always using their deck to its full potential (Like a miracle rogue stopping at 2 cards plays so I don't get a 6/6 for 2 mana).
- Wandering Monster: Best stand alone trap because it prevents damage and can get a 3 mana minion out for 2 which is usually good but sometimes you can low-roll and that sucks...
- Animal Companion: Great 3 drop and always gets you a minion that is better than the value of 3 mana. It is RNG based so if you need 1 of them you might not get it, but it is still a great turn 3 play or coin turn 2 play if you have no secrets for some reason.
- Eaglehorn Bow: It is a weapon and over 2 turns it is basically a Fireball or a way to remove a minion (I found myself most often using it to get rid of 1 of the Saronite Chain Gangs...)
- Kill Command: Good card that can be used to remove or finish off the opponent.
- Unleash the Hounds: Good for removing wide but weak boards, finishing off the opponent if they lack taunts, combos with Leok from Animal Companion, and combos with Hunter's Mark.
- Flanking Strike: Honestly underwhelmed by this card in a lot of matchups because a lot of things have more than 3 health. That being said, the wolf you get out of it is nice and there are enough times when a minion has 3 health it is still super useful. I just played a lot of Evenlocks and Taunt Druids which made this card seem worse but with the rise of Heal Zoolock I can see this card being a lot better.
- Emerald Spellstone: Probably the best card in the deck. It gets beat by Hellfire and Duskbreaker but does bait out that removal to leave the door open for a turn 6 To My Side play. THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH THIS CARD AND I WILL DISCUSS LATER, even if it is just for 2 or 3 wolves, play the card. It still baits out removal and a 6/6 value for 5 mana is still a good play and that is in it's worst form.
- Deathstalker Rexxar: Good form of removal, the hero power can push you into the late game, the armor can help you survive an extra turn if needed, and is the card that opens up a world of options for you. Great card overall.
- To My Side: This card is a massive play on turn 6 because it gets out 2 minions that are both better than 3 mana in value and is really like an 8 mana play almost.
- Rhok'Delar: Refills the hand and is a way to refuel after you used all your options already and can give you important cards like another To My Side, Spellstone, Kill Command, etc.
Mulligan:
Always keep basically:
- Wandering Monster: Good Value
- Spellstone: Makes sure you can get a more powerful turn 5 play
- Animal Companion or Eaglehorn Bow: Good turn 3 play for either of them and keeping 1 or the other, or both, depends on preference.
Aggro/Wide Boards:
- Candleshot: Good Removal
- Explosive Trap: Deals with wide boards
- Deathstalker Rexxar: The Battlecry is too good against wide boards to pass up and the new heropower is helpful.
- Unleash the Hounds: Just another way to deal with a wide board.
Midrange/Control:
- Freeze Trap: Slows down Big Minions from slower matchups.
- Hunter's Mark: Good for big minions and I personally keep it but you can experiment.
VERY IMPORTANT TIP DO NOT FORGET!!!:
Play the Spellstone on turn 5 pretty much every time. I know it is tempting to wait for 4 wolves but the tempo of 3 or even 2 is very helpful and sometimes you just need it. In fact, I would coin into it on turn 4 sometimes even if it was just worth 2 or 3. I used to not play it right away but once I started doing it my winrate rose by a couple % which is a big increase in the top ranks trying to go for legend.
This Video is my own personal Gameplay and if you want an actual guide video for this deck comment on either the video on YouTube or in the Comments here and I will make another guide saying basically the stuff said here but maybe a little more detail. I love this deck.
Thanks for the support, appreciate your input my friend.
Hey, nice guide dude! I would love if you make an actual guide video too as you said =)
I did that with some of my other guides and I will be happy to do it again if it is something you and other people want for sure. I am kinda busy with summer job and GF is in town for the week but I can probably do it next weekend or I may be able to pump something out today if it helps.
yeah no problem bro, take your time =)
Honestly idk when I can get around to it I am sorry. I post a video or 2 a day, have a summer job, and on the weekends have friends and family events that limit how much time I have. If I have the time I will try to do it but I don't know if I will be able to honestly.
I ran this deck and got to legend with it from rank 9 to legend. If you have any specific questions I could answer them and maybe make them a part of my guide as a whole just in case more people have that question. I have a lot of gameplays with a lot of different matchups on my channel too just in case I can't get to your question right away (GF is in town and i am spending a lot of my free time with her and I have a summer job). I will be happy to answer any questions if you have them though.
Just a tip for things you might be doing wrong, don't be greedy with the spellstone because in many matchups it will just get removed (evenlock for example) and for others the tempo of even just 2 wolves is enough to gain control of the game (Odd Rogue for example).
This deck is lowkey a control deck that CAN be played aggressively if needed so maybe play the games a little slower because you can close out late games with Rexxar and Rhok Delar weapon giving you spells back.
I am available now if you have specific questions that you want answered now or you can watch my videos now. Hope they help and hope you get your goal this season :).
I see nothing around that druid combo unless you get a silence like you said or you get some direct damage with Rhok'Delar or some good beasts with Rexxar.
As for zoolock I stopped playing this deck when I made it to legend last season so this new zoolock deck was not an issue then but I see it potentially being too fast to deal with potentially.
I think these matchups are just bad for you sorry...
Man Hunter is my favorite class to. Played it for hears in WoW, its my favorite class for constructed and arena, and is a great class for my go face and heavy aggro playstyle.
With this deck I beat every Zoolock I came across (rank 15-10). No problem. This deck has a lot of little board clears. Evenlock however is another story *shudder*. Taunt Druid sand Shudderwocks usually wreck me as well.
Saw your reddit post; you can use [card ] card_name [ /card] (without the spaces) to link the cards in the guide. Sorry if it's a pain, but it'll make the guide look a tad bit nicer. Overall I liked it, the only thing I can think of adding is matchup tips for popular meta decks, and maybe potential tech cards.
Yeah I have been told about the individual matchups and I will for sure do that for my next guide. As for the card name I have to type out Card_Name? i am confused could you send like an example of it please? Can I just do like /candleshot ? Also thanks so much for coming to view this and the tips.
Sorry for the late reply, it shold look like this https://imgur.com/a/pYBCqHW
