Tess, Spectral Assassin
Overview: Ever since the introduction of Tess and the Spectral Blade I have been quite a fan. It's no secret that Tess & Spectral Blade aren't the best strategy but they are much more fun than Kingsbane. This deck is the result of many hours of trial and error in creating a deck that is a balance of fun and power.
There has been one huge barrier to making this deck even slightly viable and that is mirror matches. Since feeding the Spectral Blade requires cards from another class, going against a Rogue was almost certain defeat before, I would usually just concede. I have tweaked this deck to a point where now it can have a fighting chance in a mirror match and also even beat Kingsbane Rogue from time to time - which is immensely satisfying.
Key Cards / Strategy
- Lotus Agents - Since this card is shared between three classes it doesn't count as a Rogue card and therefore will feed your Spectral Blade. This is a critical card in a mirror match that can give you 2 durability. In any mirror match I also suggest using gang up on Lotus Agents if possible.
- Grand Crusader - I found that Lotus Agents was STILL not enough for mirror matches. Adding one Grand Crusader gives you an extra card to feed to your blade.
- Aya Blackpaw - Although not included in this deck (because I don't have it) Aya Blackpaw could be a reasonable alternative to Grand Crusader for mirror matches, since she also feeds spectral blade.
- Elise the Trailblazer - Rarely does it come to this but cracking open the extra pack can net you some cards from other classes. This can be very helpful in mirror matches or even control games where your thieving has been unlucky.
Used to have it and it's probably worth trying to work back in, maybe instead of Grand Crusader.
I actually did have Shaku at one point however I felt that generally speaking my opponent went out of their way to kill it and sometimes it was removed before I even had a chance to attack with it and it almost always was removed before a 2nd attack.. at 3 mana for 2/3 it's a pretty weak minion as well so I considered husker to be better value.
Brann I had considered but then I questioned whether the value was really there. Since Tess costs 8 mana and Brann costs 3 I decided against it, since they can't both be played in the same turn and there is a high chance of Brann being killed before your next turn. I guess getting two cards would be pretty good though when playing the card generating.. Usually though I always have more than enough cards to keep my spectral blade charged.
Also to your second comment.. I did try running lilian for a while but the problem was that I found whenever I had her in my hand there were no spells I could afford to replace. If I break it down I have:
So basically that's the issue I had every situation where I had her I found that I had some critical spells I wouldn't want replaced. Shame too because I like using legends in my deck.
The one that you might be onto though is Sonya. I imagine that she could be useful for getting an additional tess or other card back in my hand.
Also cut one hukster for shaku, you can also use sonya to suicide yor spell generators.
best with face collectors for obviuos reasons
Also it would be fun to use brann in this deck
In mirror match lilian voss, also good reroll of stolen spells replaces crusader
