Showdown at Blackrock Mountain is This Week's Tavern Brawl
These two epic bosses of Blackrock Mountain are settling things once and for all... with your help!
Trivia
- This is the fifth time we've seen this brawl.
- This brawl made its debut on June 17, 2015.
- This brawl was the first ever Tavern Brawl! You're playing history!
- Games take place on the Blackrock Mountain gameboard with Molten Core card backs
How it Works
- Queue up and receive either Nefarian or Ragnaros as your hero.
- Ragnaros starts with 60 Health. His hero power is Molten Rage when initially summoned, which switches to DIE, INSECT! after Sulfuras has been destroyed.
- Nefarian starts with 30 Health and 30 Armor. His hero power is Wild Magic.
- Each deck contains very special cards with unique playstyles.
- Nefarian has an early game advantage in that he starts with extra mana crystals (4) and he can drop some great minions. Tons of RNG through his hero power though, so hope for the best!
- Ragnaros is weaker early game but if you get to turn 6 after always using your weapon, you get an amazing hero power. Make sure you mulligan for cheap cards to help!

Discuss this Week's Brawl
Head on over to our brawl forum to talk about the brawl.
almost impossible to lose as rag if you spam hero powers. only way i see to win as nef is having vaelstrasz and razorgore earlygame. 8-0 as rag and 2-4 as nefarian for me only winning against literal rank 25 rags :/ not too fun
Fuck this brawl. I have the worst RNG with this one ever. After 10 losses in a row with some of the most ridiculous RNG I have ever seen, I finally yelled out "can someone just concede so I can stop playing this stupid brawl!?!"
Next opponent insta-conceded.
Edit: Guess it was worth it... unpacked King Mukla
I actually managed to win as Ragnaros in this. Granted I scrapped by with 3 health and any direct damage spell would've killed me but I still ended up winning
Nefarian is still as broken as ever. If he has 4 mana 7\7 dragon on turn 1 - he wins almost 100%. If he gets at least 1 good spell - he wins. He should start with 3 mana, not 4.
My current stat is 3/0 as nef, 0/4 as ragnaros, all games were not even close, nefarian stomps rag like he is nothing with a TINY bit of luck.
I see a lot of ragnaroses just give up on turn 1 JUST because they dont want to play as rag, he is that much worse.
I really don't get it man. A lot of people are saying something similar to your experience, I did a little testing, and I might have gotten lucky, or it might just be my playstyle i don't know, but here are my results:
rag: 12 games - 75% winrate / 9/3
nef: 10 games - 60% winrate/ 6/4
as I said, it could just be my playstyle, but I felt a lot stronger as Rag, if you spam your hero power to get ragers, you don't run out of steam, which for me was the biggest problem. he is a bit difficult, you have to play aggressively, but conservervativly at the same time, you can have huge sings with Direbrew, brawl and double molten.
Actually I lost 5 games out of 5 with nefarian... Ragnaros' resources seem endless, and it just keep getting worse turn after turn...
Anyone else getting "There was an error starting your game. Please wait a few minutes and try again." ?
We had this brawl like 3-4 items already. If you really want to know before what’s going on you could’ve googled it. There are people who enjoy not to know what’s coming...
Indeed, one of my least favorite brawls.
Ragnaros is good, i don't even need DIE, INSECT! hero power. testing from my phone, lower quality video
I played like 6 games, all as Nef, and won them all. Could even afford to bm in a couple of them when i got Surrender to Madness from my HP
such fairness, such greatness. still as broken as ever. if you're very lucky you win like 1/4 to 1/3 with rag
or just have a bad player playing nefarian
Nefarian is broken
No because you dont kill that minions. You just transform them. ;)
Got a Devolve with Nefarian's hero power, but it didn't work against Golemagg, shouldn't it just die in that situation
RNG luckfest. The only good thing about this brawl is Nefarian's laugh-emotes.
after all these years, Ragnaros' minions still aren't elementals
How am I supposed to win as Nefarian if I can't roll Earthen Might from Hero Power and use it on my opponent's elementals to get Fire Elemental for an easy lethal??
-9/10, immersion ruined, literally unplayable
I'm surprised to see so many people say that Nefarian is a free win. In the six or so games that I played, Rag won every game but one.
I played more than that. Still win every time with Rag and lose every time with Nef. Something might have changed because in the past I had a pretty good winrate with both (maybe people learned to play Rag?), but not 100% with Rag like I have now.
