It is not confusing if you are experienced player, but to newer players it is very confusing "Why did my pyromancer equality didn't clear the board?"
You did forget Southsea Captain, which actually would be relevant in these decks...
Yeah, that's true. I mean if you menage to gain 4/4 or more it can be pretty sick for just 2 mana but usually you wont expect your pirates to stick on board for that long even more now that Cannon Barrage exist.
Why everyone is talking about even pirate rogue? You cant restrict yourself with a tribe deck like that, there is no advantage in play Genn with such archetype, you need a weapon which is odd-cost Southsea Captain , Hench-Clan Thug , Captain Greenskin , Leeroy Jenkins etc... you have 0 win condition as Even Rogue on standard, period. Cannon Barrage or Captain Hooktusk are not a win condition this is way too optimistic.
The same apply to Dragon Warrior imo.
Exhaust your opponent's removal or trade your pirates favourably, control the board, cast cannon barrage to clear the board and/or face damage when you have 3 or more pirates on the board. If that's not a win condition I don't know what is.
Even pirate rogue will be a lot like Zoo - a board control deck, not an aggro one. There are a lot of power plays for even mana. It might work without the restriction, but equipping weapon on turn 1 can do a lot of good for your board control.
Zoo is no longer a board control deck it is a highroll aggro deck.
You can play it like a control, but you need a different list that is much worse
You gave me the giggles of the day, honestly!
Well, some of the trick to playing Captain Hooktusk is knowing when to do it, and what the chances are of you getting something you really want.
This card on average it's a 2 mana 3/3 pirate with rush, not bad at all.
Seems eh, realistically it won't ever be much more than a 4/4, which, admittedly is pretty neat, but neat usually doesn't cut it.
Then again, if Even Pirate Rogue is a thing they might as well run this, because why the hell not
It’s very easy to get a couple Pirates on the board especially in Wild. A 2 mana 3/3 Rush minion is pretty good. Getting this over 3/3 will happen frequently as well. 6.9/10 card.
Why did it have to be battlecry? I guess they could have either designed for Spirit of the Shark or Captain Hooktusk and chose the former.
If you have the spirit on board, gain +2/+2 for every pirate on board. Then with just one pirate you get a 2 mana 3/3. If you drop a spirit turn 9 then turn 10 hooktusk to fill the board, trade one pirate, then drop this as a 2 mana 11/11 with rush. If you can manage to save double prep you can also cannon barrage after that for an additional 18 damage to finish clearing the board and do some face damage. Playable with one pirate on board and no spirit. Good with 2 pirates or spirit. Very good with 3 or more pirates or more than one with spirit.
That's not how prep works.
Why would anyone want to pull on turn 10 as an aggressive deck? It isn't 5\5 with charge, you know?
Playing him along with hooktusk on 10 means you have lost to control deck long time ago and they'll just board clear all your pirates next turn.
Won’t work with rogue legendary
Gain +2/+2 for each card you've played this turn?
Why. just...why. There are two possible scenarios with this card. a) It's trash. Why is it trash? Maybe your Pirates don't stick around, you charge them facewards, then they die, next turn you're starting fresh and this brings nothing to the table. b) It's not trash. Your Pirates do stick around. They keep going face, while this mops up the opposition, creating anything between 2 mana 3/3 to 2 mana 5/5 Rush. It's a classic case of win more. If you're ahead, you get even more ahead and snowball out of control. If you're behind, this is hot garbage. Actually, that's not fair to hot garbage. It's cold, chewy garbage. So in one scenario the card is horrible because it barely does anything, in the other it's horrible because it pushes an already powerful deck beyond what's reasonable for the mana cost. It's a lose lose situation. About the only good thing I can say about this is that at least it's not Odd to slot into Odd Rogue, so if it sees play, it will be in another degenerately aggressive Rogue deck than the one we're dealing with now. Y-yay?
Pirates are Even Rogue.
