Given how situational it is how is that better than just using shiv, fan of knives or Razorpetal Volley? Even with prep and auctioneer it is outclassed.
It looks to me like you have to really want a coin, and specifically a coin, to find space for it.
If it's so powerful with rouge, imagine how great it would be with rogue.
People queuing up against your Rogue after rotation would be pretty lucky.
That was ...(wait for it) ... Un-WANTED! ^^
At least call it for what it is UNWANTED
Sinister stryke sees cero play now a days with all the broken things other classes can do, that was conditional and still better than this crap and even funny enough it could damage face.
Oh please, 3 Mana would not break this card. Even in Miracle Rogue it's expensive. With a condition, it would be at the same power level as Darkbomb, which in itself is mediocre in comparison to Frostbolt or Quick Shot
tl;dr - I agree it's a little rough to play right now (in isolation), but had Blizzard made it any stronger, it could've become unbalanced. Constraints of being in Rogue.
I do think this card is a little difficult to play, evaluated in isolation without knowing the rest of the set. Especially because it's conditional on killing a minion. But, there are some design points worth mentioning...
Rogue tends to get very conservative new spells because rogue is a very swingy class for deck archetypes. It's not only because of skill cap. It's also because of its high potential for synergy in deck construction: A couple of cards made or re-created Prince Rogue, Backspace Rogue, tier 1 Miracle Rogues, and Quest Rogue. Because of this, Blizzard may be forced to print cards very conservatively for Rogue. I do believe that if this were 3 mana (and didn't have to kill a minion), as people are proposing, the coin synergy and mana would make many Rogue archetypes too strong again.
Also, though one mana can make all the difference, the difference between 1 mana and 0 mana is an even bigger functional difference. Anything that requires no mana and has synergy has the potential to be really, really good. Examples: Free arcane giants and molten giants, counterfeit coins, infinite fireballs, free secrets in hunter and mage, raza, Patches, etc. Even Snowflipper Penguin was used in Aggro Druid with beast synergy. (Wisp just has no synergy.) Since Rogue has Preparation, it constrains design. At 3 mana, being able to get a coin and deal 3 damage for free would be very strong. Even worse, if that damage could hit face. Rogue spell burst could get very close to OTK.
This "lets give rogues overcosted and underpowered spells because they have Preparation and Gadgetzan Auctioneer" situation is actually pretty sad. Literally all of rogue's best spells are from the classic set (probably with the only exception of Counterfeit Coin and maybe Tinker's Sharpsword Oil). To be fair, rogues still got some good spells but nothing nearly as BrokeBack as Firelands Portal or Defile for example.
I agree. With rogue being one of my favorite classes, I'm perpetually saddened by card reveals, too. =(
I love the flavour of the card, but I don't see it seeing much play outside of a miracle rogue, and even then, it's just a bit low impact for the mana cost, but it does look like one of those cards that looks worse on paper than in execution, so we'll see.
There's got to be some new card that synergizes with this. Otherwise this is just trash. Even then it might be trash.
For Edwin to synergize with this, it needs to cost less mana. And I'm not wasting my Preparation on this, need it for Vanish.
Are we playing the same game? Every single Kingsbane deck I know runs Vanish, and it's pretty much a requirement vs Cubelock, Jade Druid, Evolve Shaman, and Dude Paladin.
I doubt there will be some new synergy for this card specifically, but I'm betting we will see the "if that kills it" mechanic some more in rogue with this expansion.
Has the whole community forgotten preperation is a card??? Everybody is saying the cost is a problem when in fact playing gadget, prep, wanted, coin draws you3 cards and its basically free. If anything can make miracle rogue come back, its this bad boy.
