Consistency is very important in a physical card game. If a card doesn't do what it says, you can't play the game.
Digital card games are different in that the game itself can have special rules and it will take care of it for you. Ysera and Dream Cards is an example of this.
Therefore, knowing immediately from the card text how something works, although important in a digital game, is not critical. You don't want to see all cards blank with surprise effects though.
They wanted to keep cards in the classic set easy to parse, which has lead to inconsistencies with Choose One.
It and Ancient of War read the same way but one gets buffed whereas the other one transforms. Silence only works on the buffed one.
Makes players wonder how a new card works before we get to test it in-game, such as Anodized Robo Cub which was released during GvG. You can't tell right away if it transforms or buffs itself.
Druid of the Flame reads differently than Druid of the Claw, yet they work the exact same way. Ease of parsability of the card has been cited as one of the reasons Druid of the Claw is still the way it is today.
They may go back later on and change Druid of the Claw to read like Druid of the Flame for the sake of consistency, but it does sacrifice the parsability of the card.
They felt like choice cards should be between two comparable things to keep it easier to understand.
There was a card in early development which was "Choose One: Change a minion's attack to 0 for a turn, or deal 2 damage to a minion who attacked last turn".
Some inconsistencies with how a card works vs the text is actually just bugs which will be fixed in upcoming patches.
I completely agree with the Keyword suggestion. It also opens up an incredible new design space, where you could have items cards into multiple objects. For example.. (Didn't give too much thought to cost and stats)
What is the point of this vlog? He's trying to reason something that everyone knows (including them) that they fucked up. The community is addressing this issue for a year at least ... and now he come out with THIS bullcrap???
First step, Ben: You guys fucked it up, admit it! That's OK, we are human too, we make mistakes too... it's fine. Really.
Second: release a patch TOMORROW, not 6-12 months with the consistent and universal card texts.
They seem to be more concerned about the consistency of patch dates than the consistency of the game. Graphical bugs that make the game unplayable on certain devicesituations is just completely unacceptable. Stop sticking to the patch release schedule and release hot fixes like practically every other developer does.
as a new player it really sucks if you get outplayed by more experienced players, because they know how the cards work, because the card text isnt correct. wtf.
Ben flappen off at the gums again. Another case of "we know whats wrong but dont really feel like fixing it *middle finger*" I expect nothing less of blizz and especially ben brode who couldn't fix a chair if you gave him all the tools and a manual.
I liked the video for just talking to the community it's going inthe rigt direction but ven brde said himself it's a huge gain for a maybe loss so JUST DO IT dammit that's why I like legue the developers there are like let's do crazy stuff and break the game every patch and team 5 oh no it's scary..
Just change the text the developers are scared to death on every change that might hurt newbies feeling..
Will the next episode will be about "draw" ? I still don't get why Ysera's text says "draw" onstead of "put a dream card into your hand"... to me draw implies that the card comes from a deck.
And I'm not even talking about the others problems about this simple word.
Lol. Indeed, my bad. It almost shock me back in the days. I didn't noticed it has been corrected (as I knew how the card worked, I don't read the text of the cards I'm 100% sure of how they work).
It's almost like backwards logic... if you want to increase the parsability of cards, it needs to spell things out in the simplest way possible that is consistent across every possible scenario. Yet Brode is arguing that they left it this way for better parsability... what?
As others have stated, simply adding "Transform to gain..." would fix this probably instantly.

Blizzard can't release hot fixes because bugs are soul of this game.
Consistence and order, illuminati approves.

There could be a new keyword for these kind of cards like SHAPESHIFT instead of Choose One.
Which is not affects silence like buffed minons, but silenced as keep their shapeshifted form like druid of the claw as explained on video.

They fixed that inconsistency very patches ago, it reads "add a Dream Card" instead of "draw a Dream Card".

Lol. Indeed, they corrected Ysera. I don't read card when I know what they do. I didn't noticed the text changed.
They prolly changed it because of chromaggus . If Chromaggus wouldnt excist they prolly wouldnt have changed the text.

i would like to have cards read exactly what they do ...
Most boring video ever, nerf secret pala and get it over with
BUCK FEN BRODE
Nice to see the dev team talking about the problem.
They only talk about justifications for why they don't fix the problems though.
