Consistency is very important in a physical card game. If a card doesn't do what it says, you can't play the game.
Digital card games are different in that the game itself can have special rules and it will take care of it for you. Ysera and Dream Cards is an example of this.
Therefore, knowing immediately from the card text how something works, although important in a digital game, is not critical. You don't want to see all cards blank with surprise effects though.
They wanted to keep cards in the classic set easy to parse, which has lead to inconsistencies with Choose One.
It and Ancient of War read the same way but one gets buffed whereas the other one transforms. Silence only works on the buffed one.
Makes players wonder how a new card works before we get to test it in-game, such as Anodized Robo Cub which was released during GvG. You can't tell right away if it transforms or buffs itself.
Druid of the Flame reads differently than Druid of the Claw, yet they work the exact same way. Ease of parsability of the card has been cited as one of the reasons Druid of the Claw is still the way it is today.
They may go back later on and change Druid of the Claw to read like Druid of the Flame for the sake of consistency, but it does sacrifice the parsability of the card.
They felt like choice cards should be between two comparable things to keep it easier to understand.
There was a card in early development which was "Choose One: Change a minion's attack to 0 for a turn, or deal 2 damage to a minion who attacked last turn".
Some inconsistencies with how a card works vs the text is actually just bugs which will be fixed in upcoming patches.
No. That might be part of it but not that big. I am pissed at how these guys handle balance issues in general.
At first they do anything they possibly can to avoid addressing the problem. They make excuses and refuse the face the reality, saying garbage like "we believe in the players' ability to cope with that" or "that card doesn't seem OP enough, but we will keep an eye on it". Many months pass, with the issude unaddressed. The players gets pissed the hell off, the ladder turns to shit. Then they eventually do something when the damage has already been done, and their solutions aren't even that good.
A prime example of this is Undertaker. I daresay this is the most ridiculous card ever in HS history. This card should never have been made it into the game, period. This piece of abomination single-handedly ruled the meta for as long as it's been out. Because of this card over half the matches you would play were decided with first two turns or so. The one who drew Undertaker the first couple turns would faceroll to win. Even though the fact that this card got through the development process itself is enough to prove how stupid the HS dev team is, what's even worse is that it took almost an year for them to nerf this thing.
Recently, same thing is about the happen with Mysterious Challenger. This card thins your deck by max 5 cards in a game where you only use 30 cards for a deck. It is a common sense that card draws and deck-thinning effects are very strong and valuable in TCGs. Dev team proved once again their total ignorace at how TCGs work by releasing this card, and Ben comfirmed their incompetence by saying that "They didn't expect it to do so well".
As for Patron nerf, it had to happen at some time. We were ready for it. We knew it would come. But the way it was executed was pure idiocy. Not much to explain here. Just watch that Ben video if you haven't.
Back to the point... No, the Patron nerf did not rustle my jimmies at all. It's the general laziness and/or incompetence of Ben and other devs that rustles the living hell outta my jimmies. They have really got to go, but I know they ain't going anywhere, and that disgusts me.
Your Jimmies were rustled, but then again all of our Jimmies been rustled with.
Keeping the simple Force of Nature + Savage Roar combo, but getting rid of the patron set up.
Destroying Starving Buzzard, Warsong Commander making it so invaluable to the point where they force you to buy packs if you ever want to make it up there
I'm sorry but who really have problems understanding cards? Is Druid of the Claw really that difficult for some people?
he isn't talking specifically about DOTC you abject moron, he is using it as an easy to understand and relate to example for general consistency issues in the game as a whole, and using druids, who have the most diverse cards in the game with the effects they have as an example is perfectly fine, next time at least spend a moment to think before posting because you just showed us all how much of a muppet you are.
look at Wilfred fizzlebang. considering he came with inspire u'd think you know how the ability works, BUT, if you read it right u realize the text makes it seems like ALL cards (not just ones drawn after he has been played) should be affected by his effect.
I am not sure about "Choose One: ... , ..." maybe it can be written just as "Choose: ... , ... " . Obviously you can't choose both conditions. You can get rid off 3 characters very easily.
The game is an esport with A LOT of money being thrown at ppl playing it. I really believe it is time to codify its rules (especially all the summon, play, battlecry, cast etc) and make sure it's consistent all around.
"Choose One - Transform into a 4/4 with charge; or a 4/6 with taunt." This doesn't even take up 3 full lines on Hearthcards.net, and has good spacing. C'mon Blizz, if you have the option to make it say what it does, then you should do it.
Although it makes no sense that they have different wording for the same effect, why do Druid of the Claw and Ancient of War operate differently in the first place? They should have made the card effect consistent first (easier to code, as well...), and then they could change the wording of all the cards if they wish.

There used to be a time, long ago, when AoW would have been almost too good if it couldn't be silenced back down to a 5/5, obviously that ship has sailed and now it has become either Keeper of Uldaman fodder or simply 2 turns too slow.
Choose One is a mechanic on its own, just like Combo. It isn't considered a Battlecry and cards like Nerub'ar Weblord or Rumbling Elemental don't interact with them. Druid of the Fang has a transformation and is considered a Battlecry, because you don't have options to choose from.
I think it's fine to have some cards, where not the entire effect is written down like Ysera and Lord Jaraxxus. You might get confused the first time, the card shows up, but their effects are memorable enough that you remember them for future encounters. In these cases it would be much more confusing, if everything was written out.
What would you prefer?

I think the original text is much cleaner and better. So, yeah, I like simplicity over accuracy to some degree.
What I don't like is cards, that don't behave like they should. A bunch of them were changed with one of the latest patches. See Toast's video. As for inconsistency issues with Druid of the Claw / Druid of the Saber - they do the same thing, they should be worded the same.
tl;dr: Simplicity - yes please - but don't make two cards with different texts do the same thing.
"Consistency is very important in a physical card game. If a card doesn't do what it says, you can't play the game." And [card]Sideshow Spelleater[/card] two months witouth work properly :P

If they really thought that, Druid of the Flame wouldn't have that "unparsable" card text to begin with.
Playing since beta, but im still here dreaming with the day we will finally get some extra deck slots... Srly, whats the reason they refuse to give us even though we've been asking for ages??

They actually were trying to convince people during Blizzcon that adding deck slots was this complicated thing. Kind of reminded me of the load of BS they tried to offer up to justify the change to Warsong Commander.

I still think Consistencies are important even if this is a digital card game.
I think "Become a 4/4 charge beast or a 5/6 taunt beast" would work.
'Become' is shorter than 'transform into' and avoids a phrasal verb, which non native speakers struggle with. Reserve choose one for spell effects.
If they really thought that, Druid of the Flame wouldn't have that "unparsable" card text to begin with.

Maybe some Battlecries were meant to be Deathrattles.
