    Innkeeper's tie into Hearthpwn makes it such a pleasure to look over decks others have created and be able to see what cards I need to create, or substitute, or make other card changes I think might benefit a deck, knowing at all times the exact cost in dust I may be spending. It's the biggest part of my experiences with Hearthpwn. Like others, I was very happy to see Innkeeper had come back, but disappointed that some bugs have kept it from working. We're trying to hang in there while these issues are fixed.

    Thank you for sharing your deck. I appreciate your explanations for inclusions and omissions.

    I was not successful in the games I played. I like the idea, but I think the biggest issue is the one you addressed right from the get go, are there too many pieces to pull it off? Someone good at probabilities can determine exactly what the odds are. The interplay of the odds for individual cards, and the slowly improving odds with each turn make it more math than I usually try to figure out. That said, if you don't draw a particular card in your opening hand, thereafter you start with a 1 in 27 (1:27) chance of drawing Curator, and a 1:13 chance of drawing a Stitched Tracker (you have 2 in your deck); these being the three cards that can help you with the task of drawing your five combo cards. As to your minion combo cards, Alexstrasza, King Krush, and Abominable Bowman are each 1:27, and all these cards are at least 7 mana.

    Your other combo cards are getting both Play Deads. Getting the first one starts out at odds of 1:13 (again, assuming you do not draw it in your opening hand), but getting the second Play Dead starts out at odds of 1:25 if you have the first one before turn 2. Odds improve with each turn, but you need so many cards.

    Further, only after you've played King Krush on turn 9, or later, and then he is killed off, you still need a turn to play Alexstrasza, your other 9 mana combo card. Then, if you have the remaining 3 combo cards in hand, you can play the big combo on your next turn FTW if there are no taunt minions, no interfering secrets, and I haven't sat and thought what else. I still like the idea and appreciate the effort you put into crafting the deck and the the time you gave to us to explain it all.

    Blizzard wants to make money. Aside from any shorter term plans to build to achieve that, that is the end all of it. It is believed that more players mean more money. I say believe, but it is considered a basic marketing fact. It is believed that a relatively heavy RNG factor keeps newer players from quitting just because they face experienced players with OP decks. It is believed that a big RNG result is entertaining, that the winner can feel entertained even he he knows it was the RNG, that the loser can feel he was unlucky that time (or he understands that the game is entertainment), and so in theory, each plays on. A players gets much better odds than a slot machine, and you don't see Las Vegas going out of business. It is believed that the so called "competitive RNG games" benefit greatly from creating the entertainment/pleasure of the gambling effect, and hence a gambling type addition. Videos showing big RNG are heavily viewed. Players like the entertainment in those results. Not only does Blizzard want to add players as a top priority, retaining players is the next level priority.    

    It is believed that players tend to choose a particular class, or a very few classes, and play those classes almost all the time. It is believed that players like to face a variety of opponent classes. It is believed that facing different classes adds variety to the experience, so players do not quit from boredom. It is therefore believed that a "balanced" meta includes each class as equally present as possible. It is believed that having each class have an equal chance winning keeps players with otherwise marginalized classes from quitting. It is also believed that players like the puzzle solving aspect of games. Such a belief also allows Blizzard to miss the mark of balance by letting a class become OP, spurring on the enjoyment of solving a new challenge/puzzle. So a Blizzard team can miss the mark again and again and still retain players. The RNG factor never completely goes away, so there is the chance of winning, just like in gambling. At times it is felt they hit too wide of the mark and will drive away too many players (those tied to the the negatively affected classes) unless they balance things better before the next expansion, etc., hence nurffing. Also, it probably doesn't need to be said, but it is actually not important that the player have a fair chance of winning/reaching a goal in a particular time frame. Rather, like gambling, it is only important that the player believe that their chance is fair. Those addicted typically believe that the odds are in their favor.

    I play. I enjoy it. I also play chess. I manage funds and investments. I am part of some athletic teams and individual athletic competitions. I consult and give detailed written opinions, after many weeks or months of work. How do I explain that I play Hearthstone to friends who know me for the other things I do? I explain that it is a mildly entertaining diversion for such minutes as I give it. It is a somewhat interactive entertainment (to fellow players I say "cartoon") whose ending is largely random. I don't explain more and hedge or redirect the conversation if they inquire as to how much I play. Also, if I further explain, I would talk myself out of playing. ;)

    You are getting so many replies because players see the title, take a quick peek to see why you are leaving, and discover they share the same frustration. I opened Aya and so I crafted a druid deck, a deck not particularly different than those you find here. Playing it was fun and there were amusing mega Jade moments, but it was uninteresting rather quickly. I didn't seek out Patches either. Playing him with warrior is boring, much more boring than playing against him. With rogue, Gang him twice and it's funny a couple of times to call forth 4 to 6 of him. The novelty wears off overnight. A match that has on a turn-one-plus-coin a 3/2 minion (1/2 with buff from the Rusty Hook) and a 1/1 charge minion and another 1/1 minion and a 1/3 weapon isn't over at turn 5, it's really over at turn 2 or 3 unless he's s a warrior with a stupendous block of bad draws. So I fall into the same category, I find games over that quickly are painfully boring from either side. There are several fine suggestions posted here, some keeping you busy in Hearthstone, some less busy until expansions, some outside Hearthstone. Playing casual is still filled with the same decks, although to a slightly lesser degree. Best of luck.

    QUESTS RE-ENABLED FOR A SHORT TIME

    Blizzard support now says:  

    "UPDATE: In response to recent feedback and levels of interest, we will be re-enabling the Quests to acquire Old Murk-Eye and Captain’s Parrot starting with the launch of Whispers of the Old Gods in your region. These Quests will be re-enabled until Sunday, May 1 at 11:59 PM PDT. We expect this to be a one-time only extension for these quests as part of our rollout of the standard and wild formats.

    If you have met the requirements to acquire Old-Murk Eye and/or Captain’s Parrot and have not yet received your reward, please re-log into Hearthstone after Whispers of the Old Gods goes live in your region to receive them.

    Whispers of the Old Gods will release on the following days for each region:

    • Americas: April 26
    • Europe: April 27
    • Asia: April 27"

    I should mention that just before this entry's end, they still include the old language that "After the official release of Whispers of the Old Gods, Captain’s Parrot and Old Murk-Eye will only be available through crafting." I surmise that they left this one sentence in by mistake since the final sentence says "Please note that since we’re re-enabling the quest, our Support team will no longer be assisting with this, and there is thus no need for you to submit additional Support requests regarding these cards," a sentence consistent with the overall message conveyed by this entry.
