posted a message on Can WOG Make Control Shaman Competitive?
    Quote from Griffin404 >>

With the meta looking like it'll shift to more being midrange heavy, control decks in general will have a harder time. (it's just like rock-paper-scissors, aggro beats midrange which beats control which counters aggro)

If anything i'm expecting a blend between midrange and control shaman. Hallazeal the Ascended gives the deck longevity, and Thing from Below gets cheaper the longer the game goes.

Interesting, I always considered the dynamic to be the other way. Midrange puts down bigger creatures but doesn't durdle so it beats aggro. Control gets better value so it can beat midrange (which isn't fast enough to beat it) and Aggro can roll through control before it get's a decent shot at doing anything productive. I guess for shaman specifically, Midrange shaman has always done well versus control decks (like control warrior and even priest despite it being a really annoying matchup). I guess midrange Druid has done better against control shaman than in the past because of the combo burst. Other than that, I feel pretty confident against most midrange decks when playing control shaman. Our spot removal is too good. It's the board wipes that plague us and the constant barrage of swarmed duders that take us out.

All that said, I think what really pushes isn't the archetypes, but is the style of play. I think control shaman can win if the overall style of the format becomes very grind oriented. As a class, shaman has great tools to out grind opponents. If the style becomes very old school control paladin (clear the board constantly and refill hand), control shaman will falter before the power plays that warlock and paladin can bring out, at least it did in the past (obvious burn plan against locks being the exception). If the gameplay focuses on high power from turn 1 until they die, control shaman doesn't stand well in that format and the same if it's about swarming the board over and over.

I do think a midrange meta would benefit Control shaman. It would allow us to focus our builds in a way to best beat midrange demonlock and dragon priest (which is more of a tempo midrange deck). We'd also be able to let up on the anti aggro hate a little bit in order to concentrate on the long game which helps against freeze mage, cw, and reactive priest. Aside from force roar from druids, I find them pretty beatable anyways. We'll see if their playstyle changes any.

However, with WOG, I see a lot of "let's spawn lots of little dudes" style cards. Priest does it, paladin does it, Druid could if it went wisp route, hunter does it. These kinds of things really plague us. We need more ways to do 1 damage to all minions, or some better ping methods that don't cost us a whole card to kill an X/1 (i would love if they buffed searing totem to be 0/2 deal 1 damage to a random enemy at eot). It sucks to have to use Lightning Storm for a couple of little guys, but sometimes we have to (especially when they can fill the board back up in 1 card and 5 mana). Sure there is Wild Pyromancer, and I have used him to great success, but he does require setup instead of things like whirlwind and arcane explosion etc. (just realized there's that 1/1 tentacle with deal 1 damage to all minions! That'll help) Also Rogue is getting sweet wears to better grind out games, which means they might get better at it than control shaman is.

    Decks I'd like to try:
Yogg Saron (i'll hate it for sure, but it'll be fun) - Wild Pyro would be great in this deck and Hallazeal benefits from the spells as well.
C'Thun - A nice midrange style deck which benefits from Hallazeal and Twilight Hammer
Deathwing, Dragonlord  - I enjoy dragon shaman and it might be a way to go to try and really end the game with your 9+ mana dragons (which usually are hard to cast turn after turn when you need to sprinkle in overload spells. Now just cast deathwing on your first full mana chance and get ysera too!)

I'll take a look at the ol' Reno and Noodle Champ Salad decks as well (maybe try the whole inspire thing again with new tools). We'll see what else we get.

I definitely take net decks into casual if I have a quest for a class I don't feel comfortable enough to play in ranked.

posted a message on How does Blizzard assign rarity?

They have this 6 sided object they call the "cube of destiny" 1 and 6 are rerolls, but 2 is common, 3 is rare, 4 is epic and 5, is legendary. They just throw that out into the air and see what the cards rarity shall be.

Getting out of totem hero power also makes it easier to spam Inspire as if you aren't losing totems you get max 4 triggers (it's a winmore situation, but still)

I think one of my favorite thing about charged hammer and mrrglton is it enables Baron Geddon in shaman. This guy can be a real powerful card in facing one of our hardest match-ups (paladin).

All you need for a zoo deck is Warlock hero power + aggressive cards. SO long that combination exists, zoolock exists.

Thought about going back to Totem Shaman if we can fix the consistency woes, but still, there were so many tough matchups for Shaman back in Vanilla, for example Face Hunter still only loses Glaivezooka, and we lose our best defensive card (Healbot)...

Face hunter loses Webspinner, Mad Scientist, Haunted Creepers. These are all common tools that give hunters aggressive psuedo card advantage. In fact, Earth shock now isn't necessary vs those cards and can be used against other silence worthy threats.

Shredder was a major component of midrange decks, but it's a thing all decks are losing. Same with creeper and egg. Vitality totem was rarely used and even antique healbot is meh. We have healing wave now for that and yes it is better for control decks than the bot. Totem shaman remains and loses some of the harder things it had to deal with (pally tools). Losing neptulon at the same time as boom is sad because in a boomless world neptulon can really shine, but there are other late game tools we can use. We can also work around losing ZChow and belcher (i haven't used belcher in forever anyways)

    Face overload shaman will remain
    totem midrange will remain
    dragon shaman will remain
    reno shaman will remain

the first 2 really feel shredder and crackle loss.

Malygos shaman dies sadly, but maybe crusher can come back. The basic/classic shaman cards were always considered pretty strong, as well, so retaining those in standard while losing the sets that hurt us most (in what they gave to others) means overall the power goes back up a bit. Again this is all with only the current card pool in mind. I also think TGT was a good set for shaman, it just lived in a world where shaman had too difficult a time.

It's really early and I would take any tourny info they give us with a grain of salt. It would be awesome to see very regularly big tournaments with multiple formats. In fact, blizz freed up TOs to host their own formats (we thought of it for only conquest or king of the hill) which means maybe each tourny could choose standard or wild. Maybe in the near future an arena tourny mode? Blizzcon could have both or alternating. It doesn't have to be just standard (look at mtg)

Can I earn Hearthstone Championship Tour points by competing in Ranked in both formats?

No. Standard will be the only format that offers Hearthstone Championship Tour points for 2016.

Will all official Blizzard esports events be played in Standard format?

Yes. Standard is the official format of the Hearthstone Championship Tour and the Hearthstone World Championship in 2016.

Sure, this year. Good job. Also remember how I said take info with a grain of salt? Things have changed before, this is a big change, maybe with feedback and/or more thought they'll change. I have no problem with 2016 being the year of standard, it's new and not quite stale. But what about 2017? you got some insight there?

My reno shaman only loses crackle, and token paladin loses all of the things I hated playing against. So totem will probably rise again, dragon has a chance, and reno won't get worse. We don't know what else will come up, though.

Which reno shaman deck are you using right now? Does it work well on the ladder?
    Reno Champion Salad
Export to BBCode Export to Cockatrice Export to MarkDown Export to Html Clone this deck
    Minion (14) Ability (15) Weapon (1)
    Loading Collection

More or less, it's the strongest control deck that I've landed on since TGT. The only problem is a weakness to control warriors and druids. It's still a decent deck against priest and it has game against aggro. Secret pally gives it a hard time, but that always happens.

EDIT: I guess crackle was all i cared about, there is Boom and Healbot in there, too.

I hate the idea, no belcher, no healbot, less variety. It's a no from me.

have you seen the new cards, to make such a bold statement???
Do you think there will be nice "playable" anti aggro cards in the future content updates tho? How many good Healbot replacements has been released since then?
Wow, such logic. 1) It would be boring if they kept just making new healbots in the current format. It would also be impossible to NOT power creep if they didn't want the community to just be like "gg worse healbot. 2) Just because they had or hadn't done something in the YEAR since a card was released, doesn't mean they couldn't/wouldn't in the future. That mentality is just as limitting as a single format.

posted a message on One thing i don't understand about "Standard"? Help!

Yes, new cards will be usable. Basically every year, they will cut the oldest sets out then rebuild up the pool with new sets and recut the next year. It's just like MTG standard that has cards rotate out and the standard cardpool is small, then new cards come in until it's big and then cut and repeat.
