posted a message on Is Hearthstone too competitive....for me: YES

I am a fan of this game. I have not hit legendary. I mostly play an "underpowered" class (Shaman) because I like the deck. At least 80% of my losses I can point to a turn where I made a play that cost me the game. The other 20% I try and think if there were better plays that could've increased my chances to win, but those require me to go back an rewatch the game. These points are personal experience where I've learned that certain "opinions" are, at best, misguided.

As for the RNG in opening packs. I've gotten pretty lucky with Legendaries, but I never open a pack thinking "I really need a legendary". Rather, I think "I want to make these cards, how much dust do I need" and then I open a number of packs I deem appropriate to give me the dust I need. People get so upset over what they get in a pack and it's the silliest thing to attack in a card game. If you want to be competitive, hoping to open a specific  card or group of cards in packs is just silly. Lower your expectations because they are in a dream world.

I know that to get legendary I have to increase my win percent. To do that I need to increase my chances in each game to win. To do that I need to decrease the amount of misplays I make. Amidst all the RNG, this statement never changes and sometimes it stings at the end of a night of losing too many games to think "I might actually be this bad", but after some time to cool off I understand that I CAN get better. I just can't give in to this "i'm not bad, they just got lucky" mindset.

Also, just because something is an opinion doesn't mean it can't be wrong.

posted a message on Damage, Healing, Silence, and Health Buffs

It won't die, it keeps the hp it had (except  if it's normal max hp was below it's current injured level). So a 3/2 buffed to a 4/3 then earth shocked would take silence to become 3/2 and then 1 damage. If that minion was a 4/3 with 1 damage (injured 4/2) it would get silenced to a 3/2 (keeping it's hp) and then take 1 damage.

I agree that this is a bit unintuitive as you'd think silencing a buff would fully remove it's benefit.

Edit: for the inserpt about normal max hp being lower than current. a 1/1 buffed to a 1/3 and damaged to 1/2 will become a 1/1 when silenced

Edit Again: Also consider layers of attack/hp. Layers takes into account multiple ways of increasing a stat (like hp). The first layer is the static hp: a minion has 3/2. Then you adjust this layer with a Sunwell Cleric (give +1/+1). Then you adjust this layer again with equality (hard alter to X/1), Those are all on that first layer. The second layer comes from global buffs. Stormwind Champion gives all minions +1/+1 while he exists. So the first layer through all the changes go as follows: 3/2 becomes 4/3, +1/+1 makes it 5/4, equality makes it 5/2. If the champion dies it's 4/1. If the champion is alive and you earth shock it becomes it's normal stats (3/2) PLUS the champion buff (4/3) and takes a damage (4/2 injured)

Like someone else said,  if ragnos was changed from "end of turn" to "start of your turn" it would at least give one turn to deal with him.  which would be a pretty hard task in itself at that point in the game.. you may have to throw your whole field into him which clears your board... thats value in itself

currently it gives the person who plays it a chance to wipe your field ensuring that the ragnos will hit you or a certain target since its end of turn.  because of this ragnos is actually in my opinion not that random at all.. the player can easily stack odds in favor of hitting desired target by taking out undesired ones same turn as play.   and this is hard to come back from in my opinion.

would love to see it changed from "end" to "start"

Dealing with rag is actually quite simple. Aside from BGH we have: Hex, Polymorph, Siphon Soul, Dead Shot, Assassinate, Sap (kinda), Naturalize, Forces of Nature, Humiliity+Kodo, Mind Control, Equality+1Dmg, Pyroblast, Ragnaros, Tinkmaster and any combination of around 2 burn spells you might want.

I know that when I play rag I need to get the most out of him that turn because he will die. I know that if I think I'll see a rag I will hold on to my effects that deal with him (see above list). If it was made to beginning of next turn you pay 8 mana and get NOTHING. If you aren't preparing your deck and holding the appropriate cards to deal with him, then reevaluate your strategy. Like in any competitive game, if you aren't going to prepare for the threats out there, then you are just fooling yourself by complaining.

The average pack is NOT 4 commons 1 rare. The MINIMUM you get is 4 commons 1 rare. Average implies you can get less than 4 commons and 1 rare. So, at a MINIMUM you get 40 dust. If you want to use a minimum amount for your calculations, fine, but don't confuse your terms. I like to say every pack is 40 dust because then I feel good opening a pack with anything more than 4c/1r. If you don't feel incentive to buy, then don't buy. It's that simple. The system is there. I find it to be a pretty good system that allows me to go for what I want/need, gives me an option to play instead of pay, and gives me a clear cut value for time vs. money. Even when grinding the gold I don't feel like it's too much work and look at the pro players who have every card and 10k+. I doubt they put in all the money for what they have.

It's blizzards job to make the design decisions and they put thought into it. They don't need to adhere to the whims of every player that touches their game (and the SHOULDN'T do that, it makes the game worse). It's your choice to participate in that system or not. If not, then that's OK, but don't whine about it.

tl;dr: If you don't have incentive, don't buy.

He would be almost unplayable if it was at start. Card playability is determined primarily by it's impact it has when played. Even deathrattle effects have immediate impact by forcing you to play around them. Typically I expect ragnaros to die the turn after I play him. If i didn't get EOT effect I wouldn't play him at all.

Except you always get value from hearthstone packs. At minimum you get 40 dust which means you can calculate how many packs you need to make a certain deck. It also comes with the upside that you might open a golden legendary. So, stop thinking about it as "i must open x card" and think about the value you get in dust.
