Power creep is inevitable in any game where the goal is to make money. There will always be some new cards that are flat out better than old, existing cards (especially if those cards rarely saw play). There will always be existing cards that remain good enough to stay at or near the top of the power curve. If all the new cards were at parity or worse than the old cards, the meta would not change nearly as much with each new set, and the new set would be less in demand.
I've played a few other CCGs/TCGs, and this is the inevitable result of every new set. This should really come as no surprise to anyone.
I've been grinding dust and the occasional legendary/epic on arena (averaging 6 or so wins the last few months)... Basically built my collection from Arena (and crafted probably a half dozen legendaries already). I welcome this change, it gives me incentive to save my Gold for the release of the new set... and hold off on crafting some of the secondary legendaries I was going to make.
They want to promote the new set, so it makes sense. Plus it encourages people to spend money to buy the original Expert packs (i.e. $50 for 40 packs).
I have enough for 2... I have most of the "good" ones, and have everything necessary to play Control Warrior and other decks (Paladin, Priest, Headlock...). Looking for input as to what are the best to craft that will lead to the best decks:
Thalnos, Ysera, Al'Akir, Cenarius (but have 0 Force of Natures....), Edwin, Harrison Jones....
I'm leaning toward the first two, but I could be convinced that Harrison is necessary for something, or that Edwin/Thalnos would make for a worthwhile Rogue deck.
Any of those 3 would be great. I personally would pick Sylvanas and Black Knight, because their abilities can't be duplicated by any other cards. Cairne is just a solid body, and at the 6 drop spot, you can find other solid bodies to replace her with until you can get Cairne.
So this is my third 12 win run in a row, this time with Paladin. Amazing. Awards weren't great again though: 250 or so gold, pack, epic, golden rare (previous two times I got 2 gold rares, pack, some gold).
Not shown: Ragnaros, Avenging Wrath, Frost Elemental.
Any card that disrupts your opponent's planned turn and causes them to deviate from what they want to do is worth playing. Loatheb and Sylvanas are the two primary legendaries for this, and it can lead to people making suboptimal plays (and even blatant mistakes) that could win you a game you wouldn't otherwise win.
Second 12 win run in a row... Mage again. 4 fireballs/3 flamestrikes/2 frostbolts is ridiculous, even better once Archmage Antonidas hits the table and gives me unlimited fireballs (which won me 3 of the 12 games).
Rewards were 325 gold, gold rare (Perdition's Blade), pack.
I'd dump the Imp Master for Alex. If you have Senjin and Sludge Belchers, I'd find a way to get those in as well (possibly dump crazed Alchemist and the 2 defender of argus for some of the stand alone taunts). Loatheb and KelThuzad are good legendaries to fit into this deck in the absence of some of the other big ones.
Fourth 12 win run, first with Mage. I didn't think the deck was that strong, but duplicate in almost every game on either Senjin, Water Elemental, or Sludge Belcher gave me the extra minions I needed to win 12. 3 Flamestrikes/1 Blizzard definitely didn't hurt either.
Back again. I have 3200+ dust, looking to craft 2 legendaries (and the remaining epic for handlock/mage giants). I currently have Grom, Baron Geddon, Alex, Cairne, Sylvanas, TBK, Tirion, King Krush, Cho, Malygos, Ragnaros, and the Naxx legendaries.
I currently have Control Warrior, Control Priest, and Control Paladin decks built (and deathrattle Priest). I'm leaning toward Bloodmage Thalnos and Ysera, since Ysera seems to be cropping up in a lot of control decks lately and Thalnos is one of those "good in a lot of stuff" cards. Others in consideration are Harrison Jones (but with Hunter and Miracle knocked down, how many weapons will I see?), Al'Akir, and Lord Jaraxxus.

$20 (or whatever it was) for Naxx, and $50 for classic packs (40 packs). That's it.

Save up 100 gold for the release and you'll get a pack. Since the gold is generally free, that's about the best you can hope for.

50/50 chance would be worse for existing players, because many have little need for more expert packs and would prefer 100% packs from the new set.

6th 12 win run overall - 2 Druid, 2 Mage, 2 Paladin.

I always add because angry people amuse me. And they're always angry.

Prizes: Gold Lava Burst, Gold Feral Spirit, 250 Gold, Pack.
I have yet to get a legendary as a reward for Arena, and I have almost 700 Arena wins....
