I was able to pre-purchase using Amazon Coins (NA servers). Pre-purchasing costs 4999 coins, but after tax it's closer to 6k coins. I don't think it's worth the hassle. The savings are negligible especially since you pay extra coins for tax, however this is for Amazon US. I'm not sure about other countries.
Was it a savings overall or just too much of a hassle to get the expansion via Coins within the US? I am thinking about pursuing that route myself.
Back when I bought it, minimal savings. Right now, probably zero savings plus the hassle. As of July 20th 5k coins is $45.50 but there's added coin tax, so let's say you need another 500 coins ($4.90) to cover tax, that becomes $50.40 to pre-purchase using coins. Might as well pre-purchase directly from Blizzard for $49.99.
Say you bought 10k coins for $89 (July 20th price) and spend 5500 coins to pre-purchase, you'll have 4500 coins left which isn't enough to buy a 40 pack ($49.99). You could buy two 15-packs at 2000 coins each (plus coin tax) so basically 10k coins will get you 50 packs (pre-purchase) + 30 packs for a total of 80 packs.
If you bought the same 50 pack pre-purchase for $49.99 and 30 packs for $40 directly from Blizzard, that's $89.99. So for all the hassle of going through Amazon you save 99 cents.
Thanks!
Thats why I am writing about it about couple days.
For me the price is almost the same. It is not worth
That's understandable. I'd say, though, it's worth it (if you haven't gone through the preorder) to check periodically to see if there the deal gets better. I know that Europe has been seeing some great deals. Hopefully, NA will be able to see some of those deals before KoFT drops.
Gah I hate Amazon coins, I never buy enough when they're cheap. The current discount sucks. But we have a few more weeks until the 20% thing kicks in.
Edit: Also what does everyone mean they can't buy with coins? I jut checked it with my Hearthstone app downloaded through Underground, I totally can! And I'd get 500 coins back. But I'm waiting for the 22nd - 25th when I get 1000 coins back!
Yes, I agree that with the virtual currency fluctuating that things can get a tad bit crazy trying to keep up but it's worth it when you find a solid bargain with Amazon coins then it's worth it. It's very similar to stock prices where supply and demand can drive the prices around indeed.
That's a perfect way of putting it. Also, thank you for posting that link for convenience. I think it might also be worthwhile to keep an eye out when other games that use coins (Final Fantasy Brave EXVIUS, Summoners War, Game ofWar) are about to have huge updates. That may also lead to a strong sale in Amazon Coins.
No doubt. I hope that Amazon Coins expand to MMO's as well such as WoW, SWTOR, etc. so that we can have a one-stop shop for everything in game :)
Oh absolutely! I really would love it for FFXIV as well. All in all, I'm super thankful Amazon has come up with this method of payment. It's made everything so much more convenient.
What would be brilliant is if the MMO companies gathered together so that we could translate goods/credits from one MMO to another. Like whether I can farm gold in WoW, translate it into Amazon Coins, then bring that into SWTOR when I need to.
I mean, that would be the dream, especially since a large amount of people happen to play multiple MMOs. I'll be interested to see the future of spending in multiplayer gaming since Amazon Coins have and their being able to be used in multiple games has really been a huge advancement in the world of p2p.
I've been tracking the Amazon coin prices since last two month. I purchased 20,000 coins for the next expansion today as this is the cheapest price I've found which is £71 for 10,000 coins. The last time price dropped to 71 was 13th of may. I accidentally found out that the price fluctuates. I had paid £91 for 10000 coins previously.
So for £71 you can get 10,000 coins.
Let's do the math.
4500 coins for 40 packs X 2 = 9000 coins used. Remaining 1000 coins. You can get 7 packs for 900 coins. Total you'll get 87 packs for £71.
£71 / 87 = £0.82 per pack. But sometimes Amazon gives 5% coins back on in-app purchases. So with some patience you can have better value for money.
However, blizzard's price for pre-purchase is £45 for 50 packs which comes to £0.90 per pack and the card back but not everyone cares about the card back.
I purchased the pre-order packs with Amazon coins today and got 225 coins as a 5% discount is on going
Hope this helps and get your coins before the prices hike.
Check your local tax rate on amazon coins... in some cases you can end up paying more with your local taxes even with a sale on amazon coins. In texas, it is not profitable to buy with amazon coins ever... the tax rate is always higher than the sale discount.

I read this and decided to skip the 500 coins back deal and wait for the proposed 1000 coins back, but today I get 0 coins back. What is your source for 1000 coins back from 22nd-25th and for what region does this apply?
Amazon (US) coins are now $47.50 for the 5k bundle and $91 for the 10k bundle. Definitely not worth it anymore considering there's coin tax on top of the price you pay to buy packs.
The discounts are so trash now. Jeez Amazon FINE I'll buy your stupid $500 bundle. I've got me and my sister so at least this sets us for the next two years.
This promo, as far as I know, never happened. I too missed out on the coinback and the cheaper price on the coins. With only 2 weeks left, it's very doubtful that the price goes down or a coinback deal happens.
It seems a little suspicious to me. I'm starting to wonder if they're raising prices for a last minute deal where it suddenly drops to a really low price. I'd say it's still worth checking out pretty frequently.

Not necessarily. Like any virtual currency, Amazon Coins is subject to the same regulations/economic rules as real-world currency tied in to the regular stock market. Granted it's a new form and folks do have a right to be suspicious of it. However, I found that more key is that people are going to be using it as it gains momentum with folks who game a lot and have to use a standard method of procuring add-ons to popular mobile games or MMO's.
Yes, keeping track can be rather tough but I suggest this link as an indicator of how much savings that an average person would be getting: http://www.hearthpwn.com/coins.
With the expansion arriving in a few days, surely there would be some further hype regarding Amazon Coins deals? Has anyone seen any good offers recently (for Amazon UK)?
I have a £65 Amazon gift card balance. I am tempted to use this to get 10,000 coins for £76. Is it likely that I will get a better deal before the expansion?

Can I buy the expansion with 5000 coins even, or do I need extra for tax? I remember it being a nightmare in Genymotion, the purchase failed, and it was trying to apply tax even though there is no tax in Oregon. Had to contact amazon and have them change my default address, even though I had already in my account. The had to contact blizzard about my failed purchase.
Edit: Need to make my decision tonight if I want to collect the card back.

Why by tonight, isn't release August 10? So, we should have until August 9th to pre-purchase and get the card back or am I missing something?

Ben Brode mentioned in the card reveal video that the pre-order is only available until the Tuesday (Aug 8) patch arrives.
