Just an update: Got to Rank 8 last season with a Keleseth Zoolock but can't budge in this new meta. 13 has been the ceiling, but considering i've played too many games with some fun Rogue decks and really just fucked around with the components of those, I'm doing rather well. Still trying to make it with the Zoo before the expansion hits next month, of which I will have the preorder on deck. Cheers for all the help so far!!!
Hey man, sounds like u are doing ok. I am also a dad with a wife and 3 kids. I have been playing a year, it took me about 4 to 5 months to hit rank 10, and I just hit 5 the first time over the summer right before frozen throne. I am sitting at rank 7 right now and am trying to make the push to 5 again before the end of the month. It takes time to get good. I would recommend watching streamers and learning how the pros play on ladder. Especially in the beginning of the month when they are climbing to legend. Also if you really like the game you should drop the $50 on the prerelease bundle. i saw a jump in my win rate after ungoro dropped when I bought the ungoro bundle. I feel like 50 bucks every 4 months is totally worth it. It is about how much I used to spend on video games before I picked up hearthstone and now the only stuff I play are old Nintendo games and hearthstone. Also there is a reason why rank 5 is called Dad legend
I agree with most people here, those ranks are really really good for a beginer. the only problem is that hearthstone is getting more expensive so i recommend preordering this expansion, even if its way too friken expensive.
The best money I ever spent on this game was hiring a coach off Reddit. I was supremely skeptical at first. $10/hour seems steep, but those guys will set you straight pretty quickly. Anybody can learn this game, but it's the things "you don't know you don't know" that will hold you back. Coaches can help you build a good deck, learn to pilot it, and help you nail the basics.
Keep rocking, I got way more losses than you do and I haven't given up yet
I'm semi-obsessed with stats so I have a running tab on my iPhone in Notes.
I've got 2 kids and no wife, I'm now legend. I can say that it probably took me 2 years to get past rank 10! though admittedly the ranks were slightly harder back then with no ranked floor. Point being it can take a while and hitting that rank this early is actually pretty good. Keep in mind too that a bad win loss ratio isn't necessarily bad. I'm sure you're crushing it in rank 20-15. The higher you go the more consistent the players get. Every month I'd come back and the ranks that had been Hard became softer too me, until one month rank 1 was "soft" (I actually had no losses(in rank 1), though this was partially just matchup luck) .
