I've been playing hearthstone for 5 months now and it has been a really nice game but since I'm a f2p/budget type I've struggled with decks and creating them.
Currently i sit at 815 dust but i calculated and no that at the end of this month I'll have 1,180.
I have Alex, Thalnos, and Boom.
I am lacking these cards (For me they are must haves/want):
Now there are a couple of other cards i did not list because they are more based on a specific deck such as gromash and ice block (i have 1 ice block) for decks like control warrior or freeze mage (freeze is too specific and the amount of dust for me to craft control warrior is insane).
I'm wondering if i should take priority in crafting a legend or epics, i am missing the last wing of naxx but i can grind for 10 days to get it so I'm focusing on what i need. I am currently opening tgt packs, but before i was opening alot of classics in hope of getting the legends and epics i need.
Which adventure legends should i craft I rarely open gvg so i was wondering should i use my dust on them (Mal'Ganis, Toshley, and Vol'Jin already got Dr. Boom). I'm nowhere near close to making any deck based on a legend and i wanted to craft sylvannas, but i was wondering which one is more important to craft among these cards.
*Note: I do arena rarely, but im starting to do it and a friend convinced me to do it and open tgt packs instead so my chances of opening classics and gvg have gotten lower but every now and then i use my gold on only classic packs when i want a classic epic or legend.
I suggest to focus on 1 deck if you are a f2p player. I recommend crafting tirion and 2x mysterious challenger. After you finish the last wing of naxx.
Ya its gonna take a while to craft on those. Focusing on one deck is a good idea. Tirion wouldnt be bad. You could play mid range pally and secret pally with it to give you a little variety. Syl isn't needed in most decks that it is in and can usually be replaced.

Hey guys! New streamer with a small following so I do answer all questions. I don't consider myself great but I have hit legend every season I have played. I'm just your average Joe with a pretty card back :D
HS dust follows a simple rule. Spend about 50 packs on each expansion. Play arena, get 3 wins to a minimum in each Arena run, that covers your investment. That way you'll get all them legendaries and plenty of dust in a much faster time.
From all the essentials/played cards, I'm missing about 5 legendaries and one epic. F2P since nov 2013 / beta. HF :)

I guess I'll focus on mysterious challenger then and the last wing of naxx. Even if they get nerfed I can still get 800 dust back to rethink my choices.
First thanks for your post, I was gonna go FTP but didn't (three months in, here) and I enjoyed hearing about what the other path would have been like.
But I wonder about going the secret pally route as a FTP player - it could get nerfed. Yes, you'd get the dust for one card back, but not all the supporting cards you might have crafted, and then what? My collection is sparse - even more sparse - and I don't want to get short-sheeted if Secret is nerfed. I'm looking at more venerable decks, therefore.
Also, if you concentrate on one hero, that helps you in ranked play, but then due to having fewer cards, you have to endure a lot of losses in a row if you want to play another hero casually for a change. However, I get that you want to create at least one ideal deck/netdeck. So do I.
I've been looking hard in the decks and found one New TwoBiers Midrange Hunter that fit an eccentric legendary I pulled, namely Dreadscale. That solved the question of what my first constructed deck would be. Lucky me. Glad I didn't dust it!
Now I have to make the big 1600 dust decision about what to do next. If I want a competitive deck I (or you) could reach for Midrange Druid, soon enough and that's highly competitive. But, I think I'll putter with Mage and probably craft Archmage Antonidas to get rid of the dust that's burning a hole in my pocket. As long as you can create one competitive deck you're happy playing (huntard or not) there are no bad decisions, here! I'm really enjoying the journey, so I'm in no great hurry to get to the end, or legend rank.
The deck section here is great, very searchable, and I think I've learned that it's best for fairly new players who want to compete to search out a very specific, very competitive, very recent deck that isn't too expensive (for you.)
From my observations mage has been my best ranked hero with 41 wins next best is paladin at 31 (reason why it's so low is cause i played a lot of casual before going to ranked).
I really would want archmage but that wouldn't be a game changing for me as it would only be an addition to my mage decks (a good one at that).
I have most cards needed for Top4Paladin secret pally as I only lack one secret keeper and two competitive spirts, losing 300 dust might hurt but I can get that back at the end of a month if it gets nerfed.
Worse comes to worse I'll probably get dust back to craft archmage or sylvannas most likely.
Again thanks for your opinion I think i might focus on a hero that i'm good at (mage) when it comes to crafting my cards rather than the popularity and consistency of a deck.

A good guide to what's competitive can be found here:
