Today's results got me thinking...and maybe even overthinking lol. I was playing excavate paladin, which has above 60% win rate, but I lost 3 of 3 games. Might be situational I know(I was unlucky in most games), but I also played highlander warrior and was more successful. Those two decks are opposites, paladin being aggro and warrior a slow control deck. So do aggro or control fit better for certain individuals?
Of course people have different opinions on this, but let me know what you think.
Losing 3 out of 3 just happens sometimes with that sample size. If you had lost 50 out of 50, I would say it’s you. As it stands, it may have just been luck of the draw. Additionally, if you favor control (as I do), you have to sort of switch your thinking for playing aggro, as it involves some different decisions. So that could also be a minor factor. (Or should I say miner factor, given the deck?)
Absolutely. Some people are hardwired in their play style. I for example am a control player. I have always been like this in other games. I am a very stand back and react type of person. Then there are the other players... those who must SMOrc haha its all they know. And when you take away their ability to win they get angry and add you to tell you off. That play style is of someone who is impatient and narrow minded in my opinion. So you could describe me as a person as deliberate and methodical.
Hmmm I dunno. I play this game since ages, so maybe that's why but I like plenty of different styles.
Mostly it's a certain Deck that I like...
I play control (Warlock and Warrior), the super rare mid range (hunter), burn decks like Frost dk or arcane hunter. In classic I was in love with ramp druid (force of nature), nowadays ramp seems silly most of the time. Also I truly loved many incarnations of face hunter...
Btw I dont like the current control warrior, cuz odyn makes it feel like a Combo Deck and thats the one thing I rly dislike. Combo is fun for 5-10 games when the Deck is intressting, then I am done.
But in general you are probably right. Everybody has a playstyle, I think. Even though I play many different Kind of decks I always want to dictate tempo, if thats done by control or Swing turns dosnt matter much.
I could have written a truckload more, you made me think alot but that's enough. Haha

I couldn't agree more since I'm also a control player, but after playing paladin(because I used to like pure paladin with the countess) I'm starting to learn the different mindset it takes to play aggro. It's more of a yolo playstyle, where you throw caution to the wind and hope for the best imo. Sometimes it works and sometimes you're out of fuel and it's a dead race.
With aggro paladin it seems to work most of the time for my opponents who play it though. It's like they always get the right cards in the right order. That's the scary thing about it.
Lol, I don't really like their use of the term power gamer, because that would mean playing control with big cards that have big effects is power gaming. Aggro can also be power gaming depending on how you see it.

You are being very presumptuous imo. HS has ebbs and flows like any game that is constantly changing. Being good at the game involves a lot of things with correctly guessing what deck you are playing and knowing what cards in your opening hand have the best chance of giving you a win. Some metas control is so dominate playing anything else just slows your rank progression and the same goes for aggro. Some people would say aggro decks are harder to play because knowing when to trade correctly can either win or lose you the game vs just reacting to board states. One thing I do not like about the game are mirror matches and control mirror matches are pure boredom and take a lot of time vs aggro mirrors which are won or lost in the first 3 turns. I own the entire card pool and have played since closed beta. Having the ability to play a solid gold Reno warrior deck right now is not an issue for me but even playing a Reno warrior deck right now might not be possible for a lot of players because of the deck cost. Aggro tends to be very forgiving on the dust requirement to be decent . The game needs players and not everyone spends money on the game. So to answer your question I don’t think anyone’s personality or individual idiosyncrasies predisposes them to favor playing any particular way. I would argue that the players card collection dictates what they play :). Twist should be easy this month with playing the best synergies of each classes commons and out of the two or three best decks it will come down to tech for the mirrors or learning the matchups and getting the mulligans. Good luck!
