Like supposedly everyone is getting a full classic set for free. Does this mean those of us who already have a full set can just DE it all and have our collection replenished by the change? If not then does it mean a guy who starts playing a day before the change won't get a full collection for free but a guy who starts the day after will. Would suck to be the former guy then :P
Also the cards we will get with Core set, are they ours to keep? If so I could DE my copies of the only (so far) known Core card, Shadowform, and get it back for free. Or maybe they will disappear at the end of the year leaving us with only the cards we had to begin with.
It is rather confusing, but potentially that is a lot of dust. Though I am probably misunderstanding it :D
PS. Ideally provide sources along with your claims so I can verify them.
Just as a starter, I'd say an "ideal guide" is kind of personalized, as different players tend to have different playtimes, resources spent in game and whatnot. Just as a brief clarification, though:
The core set changes within time, and the old cards will automatically be replaced by the new ones whenever it happens. If you want to play Wild, I'd say be extra careful when disenchanting, taking that into consideration. They're not free PERMANENT cards, but rather temporary...
Personally, I won't disenchant anything as I have interest in the Wild meta, but could definitely see disenchanting cards you either see as bad or mediocre that are in the core set. Obviously, however, I'd argue heavily against disenchanting stuff that's great even outside being free, like, lets say... Zilliax. You'd just be trading your permanent version of it for 400 dust and own a temporary one instead, which is really not advisable...
The Core Set will be made up of temporary, non-disenchantable cards, much like the Wild cards that rotated back for an event a while back.
Take Shadowform as an example. You already have a copy of Shadowform. When the Core Set is released, all players will be given a non-disenchatable/non-craftable Shadowform for free. You now have 2 copies of Shadowform, one that you own and the non-disenchantable/non-craftable one that has been provided to everyone. A year from now, when the Core Set changes, the free copy of Shadowform will be taken away from all players. You now no longer have that free copy of Shadowform, but you still have your original copy.
So in other words, do not disenchant your copy of Shadowform if you intend on using it in the future outside of when it's in the Core Set, and don't disenchant other cards for the same reason.
As far as players recieving a free Classic set, that is not true, players will recieve the new Core Set for free, which is replacing the Classic set. I can see how you misunderstood though, because it is a bit confusing.
The only dust opportunity as far as I know will be when the Basic cards are shifted to Wild and become disenchantable, then you can disenchant those if you would like for some dust, if I understand that correctly.

I think basically everything you said and assumed is wrong.
There will be a dual process:
1) the current Basic and Classic set will be renamed "Legacy" and will be moved to Wild. You will not get any dust for this move, as it is part of the usual and expected move of sets to Wild, which never give dust either.
2) there will be an introduction of a "Core" set. This set will be free. This set will not be able to be disenchanted. This set will contain copies of cards from the Basic and Classic set, as well as cards from Wild, as well as totally new cards.
This Core set will last for the whole year, and then next year, when rotation of sets to Wild happens again, the Core set will be replaced by a new Core set of free and temporary cards.
IF you choose to disenchant the Legacy card set, you will gain some dust, but lose those cards in every game mode, EXCEPT the free, temporary copies that are part of the Core set. When that Core set changes however, you may, or may not have access to those cards again. That totally depends on what cards will be part of the replacement Core set.
I hope this solves some of your very damaging understandings and questions.

Basic cards and their Golden versions will be granted to all players that have Wild unlocked for free at rotation.
Thanks for all the replies, this is what tripped me up. I conflated basic with all classic cards. Also I did not know Blizz gave temporary cards before, I am only now coming back to the game after last playing seriously during Un'Goro. This explains why I thought we might keep Core permanently.
AFAIK you can disenchant all classic and you will get the core cards FOR THE TIMESPAN OF CORE SET BEING IN STANDARD for free. Then they will dissapear.
So if you have classic card which will be in core set you have two possibilities:
- do not disenchant = you will have 2(4)* copies for the timespan and after that the free given will dissapear an you will have 1(2)* copies usable in wild
- do disenchant = you will have 1(2)* copies for the timespan and after that you will have none

Yes, that's exactly what you should do....
*Disclaimer: Seriously, don't do this - it's an absolutely TERRIBLE idea! Never EVER dust your entire set thinking you're doing something clever. I can't tell you the number of sad-faced people who have seriously regretted doing that afterwards.

Oh, and I forget, if you DE your classics cards you will not be able to play the new Classic mode.

Surely it is ok to disenchant if you only ever play Standard? This might change in the future of course, and then you will no longer have access to those cards, but if you only ever want to play Standard then I don't think this is an issue.

It is, since Standard will always be the newest content + Core and you get all Core cards free to use during the year they are Core. But that is only for standard, you won't be able to use them in Brawls, Duels and ofc Wild and Classic which might or might not be a bummer for you.

Honestly, a lot of other people have been wondering the same things. So, thank you for asking, as Blizzard wasn't the most clear about it all.

No.
Take a walk on the wild side...
Unless you intend to play only standard, it's not recommended to dust cards
Also, it's better to wait until they reveal all cards from core set
Is there any reason not to dust golden classic cards assuming you have the normal still? There is not much chance of last minute nerfs or is there?
