Hey guys, so my friend has recetly started hearthsone and he will be given the option to select a free deck of his choice. Which class s free deck should i recommend him to choose? He is a f2p and we need to decide wisely :D
Mage for the card value; Rogue if he wants to be competitive as the addition of Flik to the deck and a couple other switches here and there make the deck tier 1.
Mage has the highlander cards that are played in other decks as well (Dragonqueen and Zephrys). However, Highlander decks are really expensive, going well over 12k dust, at minimum.
Rogue is a very strong class. Edwin, Toggwaggle and Kronx will be played until they rotate or are Hall of Famed, in the case of Edwin. Kronx is used in all Galakrond decks (a hero card you receive for free for available for 5 classes). The deck is only missing Flik Skyshiv and then you can very easily play the standard Galakrond Rogue deck. You don't really need Hanar.
I don't think as a F2P that just started you will be able to craft the optimized Highlander decks, so I'd say to go for Rogue.
For Mage specifically you'll need both Renos (and one of them is locked in the last chapter of the paid adventure), Kalecgos, Malygos, Solarian, a shit ton of epics... Highlander Mage costs in total almost 20k dust. Highlander Hunter and Priest are expensive as well.
Rogue is much more well positioned to start with. You craft Flik, replace some of the commons with other better commons and you pretty much have a list already worth of getting Legend with if piloted well.
Add to that Mage isn't easy to pilot and has really heavily unfavourable matchups into Hunter and Demon Hunter, who are two of the most popular classes alongside Warrior, and those 2 just farms Mage. Since your friend is new and don't know the game and concepts well, I don't think he'll have too much fun getting rolled over by DHs and Hunters.
Rogue also has problems with those 2, but it's much more even than Mage.
As said above, Mage has better long term payoff as you get 2 neutral legendaries that will be staples in every single highlander deck (and some non-highlander ones) till they rotate, but the deck itself is weak and requires a few more legendaries to become really playable (with The Amazing Reno being the most expensive as you need to buy the whole Gala adventure).
Rogue gives you an already strong deck that can become almost tier1 just by crafting Flik Skyshiv, 1 neutral legendary that is played in every single Galakrond deck (Kronx) and Edwin who is part of the classic set in will be auto-include in Rogue decks till the end of time (unless they HoF him).
The other decks are much weaker comparatively

Mage and rogue are the 2 best decks available. Mage has 2 extremely good neutral legendaries which can be played in any highlander deck.
Thank you all so much for the advices :D i will share your opinions with him.
Really appreciate it :D
Mage and Rogue.

Mage is better if you want the highlander cards in it. Rogue is better if you want a solid t1 meta deck to play, only need to change few cards.
