Honestly, I lowkey blame Trump(SC). I was watching his getting started in HS guides and he said "Don't be afraid to let the rope go down while you think of your next move" or something like that. It's really annoying when they make it obvious they're not afk either. Looking through their cards, not playing anything.
There's a difference between using your time to make decisions and just sitting there to frustrate your opponent. If it's mid- to late-game and there's a board full of minions, and the rope burns, everyone understands that you are thinking and using the time productively. If you have two mana available and let the rope burn, you're being rude. If your opponent has one mid-sized minion on the board and you use all of your time to decide to play a single-card removal, you're being rude.
Getting roped can be frustrating, and a previous poster mentioned that it IS technically a strategy.
The best thing to do is play your game.. if you want to play fast, then play fast. If you want to rope back, then rope back. But do it on your terms. Don't let it take up brain space when you should be concentrating on your next few moves. Ropers only win when they change how YOU play.
Who even uses the term “scrub” anymore? Okay boomer, go listen to some more TLC CDs on your boom box.
As for roping, I usually do it to aggro and netdeck players when I’m in a bad mood. I figure since aggro players like to win quickly, I’ll make it take as long as possible. Netdeck players lack creativity and perpetuate a boring meta. They should suffer!
It astonishes me that everyone seems to think that roping all the way to the end timer is considered "BM" and nothing else. While there are those pricks that do it intentionally out of spite (ableit a minority) there are also people that..you know...actually think out their turns by weighing what other options they have, if "x play" would be better than "y play." Also accounting for certain cards your opponent has in their hand as well as your own (ex. figuring out what cards your opponent's Alex gave them but didn't play them could mean something) thinking ahead, knowing what's left in your deck etc etc...
If you ever watch Trump's videos and stream you would understand what I mean. Of course he tends to over think things but he's using his brain and using the most time he has to his advantage, unlike most HS players. As well as players at tournaments try to do their best with the time they have to win, an incentive to do when you're risking a grand prize of over a grand in money.
On turn one? When your only play is passing the turn? And then again on turn two when you end up using the hero power?
I’m fine with roping when turns are actually complex, but on eu server, it’s mostly BM. It’s not that hard to detect which is which.
Depending on the situation I do one of three things:
* I just want to play a quick game before work/ bed/ whatever. I concede. If I don’t get to play, you don’t either.
* I have the time and I am playing aggro or midrange. I quickly do my turns and watch some YouTube.
*I have the time and I am playing combo or control. Or I have something I want to watch anyway: I rope them right back.
You morons who gloat about roping people who play good decks and not your rank 25 trash do realize that people just alt tab and do something else? You do understand that people do other stuff while playing hs? Want to rope? Ok, good job, you've just wasted your own time lol
Keyboard warriors will always wield what ever power they are granted to incite frustration at whomever they can for strategic advantage or for sadistic fun.
I run a custom Mage deck I made from scratch in Standard. I didn't copy any net deck, Mage is not competing well in the current meta and is not known to be aggro. Still, I would guess that I get roped about 1 in 6 games right from turn 1. There is really no reason for this other than intentionally trying to nerve me... which I never let affect my play.
It is a shameful, selfish, childish act unless you are roping a roper imho.
Only roping face decks. Like the most cancerous face hunters and warriors. It actually wins games because they only play those fun-ruining deck to climb these precious ranks faster.
Ye. Eating those one, perhaps two, and very very rare 3 secrets, changes the game in those +10 secrets hitting the board from turn 1. Please play ANYTHING else - or accept i can do with my turn as i please. Roping or not.

This! I rope everytime I play these days...'cause I play TFT together with HS. My ranked in TFT is real low but HS is so easy these days that u can play together and still reach Rank 5+ ladder. So, get up from ur low Elo and stop complaining about roping guys, git gud.

Let me get this straight. They pay a legitimate deck for climbing, aka playing the game, and you try to win by intentionally annoying them? Also you don’t consider this behavior to be fun-ruining?

There are two situations.
- His turn, first rope, I play fast, if the rope starts immediately on his second turn, the rope could be unintentional.
- If the ropes does not start immediately on opponent's second turn...it most likely is intentional. I start roping too until he stops..
Roping is a strategy too
I still love my idea of the rope dealing 1 damage a second. That'll put an end to roppers!
At the start of this expansion I roped and threatened all of the broken Galakron Shaman players.
Then, when cancer face hunter became a thing I did the same.
Then, I created a defensive priest Galakron deck that beat all aggro and threatened every turn.
Haha I hate netdecking cancer deck playing players so much.
Netdeckers deserve to get roped every single game
Easy, you rope them back, they stop every time

Rope them in turn and do something else while you wait. Don’t give them the satisfaction of conceding, grind that thing out till the bitter end.

Roping every single Secret Tard Mage (65% of Wild) - And i see NO reason why i should not.

One reason: You've chosen not to play with Eater of Secrets.

So you played roughly 1/3 of the games that you could have played, because you wanted to be a dick and rope people.
Good call.
