You can 'copy' decks too, if you see some good decks :) I think, the best way to spend gold is to play arena, it will help you, to be better, and you also get packs and gold back. If you want to play specific decks, maybe you should open packs that contain most of the decks cards, or at least the more expensive ones.
Player is #($)#0 WEEKS OLD! Chances are, they aren't netting 4+ wins in arena. I'm not even sure they have even PLAYED arena yet beyond maybe that free one.
Arena is a great place for free 2 play accounts..AFTER they know enough about the game win about half the time (which results in you getting about 3-4 wins on average in arena) Once you think you can do that then yes, that gold SHOULD be arena bound.
Right now, they need Classic packs. They need a foundation of the game as a whole.
I'll say this:
1. Get your classic Legendary if you didn't already already find one. It'll show up within the first 10 packs. Now, unless you alos received an epic, say, in the last 3 packs, open more packs until you get an epic.
2. Do the same thing for Rastakhan's Rumble, The Boomsday Project, and The Witchwood. Open until you get a Legendary and an Epic. Should be within 10 packs or less.
3. Open up Classic Packs until you feel semi-comfortable with the cheaper decks you can make. Use the legendaries you got for free+ the ones from the packs to help guide on what decks to make but don't feel you HAVE to use them if you can't seem to get a good deck from them. Focus on decks that only need a couple of cards crafted. AVOID dusting cards except for duplicates and goldens unless you've done A LOT of research on the card, and even then think twice. Dusting non-dupes may be required but the less you dust the better.
The SECOND you have decks you feel ok with, you have a decision:
1. Open more classic packs, which will be a good idea until you have most of the commons and rares...
2. Save for the next expansion, which will come around April, and we'll all get VERY hype for...
3. If you want some extra dust for epics/Legendaries, do that Legendary/epic trick I said on the other three sets: Kobolds/Frozen Throne/Un'Goro. Those sets are about to rotate out of standard, but you'll either get a very good legendary to use for now then dust later or more dust than you'll get opening other packs.
Personally I'm not too sure about #3 but it IS an option so I'll put it down as a choice.
Also when you feel comfortalbe, start learning about the arena. It IS the best place to use your gold.. once you stop being horrible at it. So the sooner you learn how to play there reasonably (again a 4+ win rate on average) then your gold will go MUCH farther there than in buying packs of the newest set.
Beyond that, just don't dust too many things, and be very *****VVEERRRRYYYY***** careful about your dust. .Dust is how you get your high rarity cards, so it's your key to those more expensive decks. be VERY careful in how you use it.

Just started playing Hearthstone a couple of weeks ago.
Rank 37 atm, been playing Play mode mainly, tried Arena once and played the Tavern Brawl as well.
I have 1000 gold, how should I spend it, if at all?
I keep losing to players who it appears have copied their decks online.
How can I do this too?
For new players u shouldnt waste gold on arena, u need to to win 4 games to earn back what u invested. Buying packs from classic and the newest expansion would be the best way. Also never dust/destroy a card, as a new play u dont understand if u need this card later.
The deal is you can only have one per deck not 2 like all others and the plan is to use their effects at the best time for you to get the most amount of value from them.
Hir'eek ans Bwonsamdi could be good one day, maybe.
the other 2 you mention aren't really usable but Marin does see play in some decks
do your quests and focus on the solo gameplay like puzzles, dungeon run etc. to get to know the game. Then start doing some arena when you have a certain level of confidence with he cards (while you look at youtube videos of good arena players to know the proces)
THat would be my advice (also don''t forget to brawl at least once a week for that sweet extra pack)
Any leftover gold that doesn't go to arena goes into classic for the time being
I agree with the people saying not to play arena and to buy classic packs (if you are going to buy packs). You might want to save up for next expansion and get a lot of those packs. Do not get Un'goro, Frozen Throne, of Kobolds Packs because those cards will only be usable in standard for a couple of months. (Standard is the most played format in hearthstone.)
Additionally, you can build a deck on hearthpwn and ask for advice. Other players will give you reasons why they think you should add or remove cards from your deck and help you understand which cards work well together.
I forgot. Do the Frozen Throne Solo content prologue. It is VERY easy and you will get a free legendary death knight hero card. You may get lucky and get a good one (but most of them are playable).

How can I do this too? Also, how do the stars work?
EDIT:
I just checked my cards and have the following Legendary cards:
What exactly is the deal with Legendary cards?
The Beast 6
Marin the Fox 8 (Uncraftable)
Hir'eek the Bat 8
Bwonsamdi the Dead 7

And maybe search for some budget decks online, they usually have pretty good guids too.
Arena would be my answer.
Dead but dreaming
Arena 100%
Arena 101%
-let´s negotiate: you concede and I let you live...
Buy classic packs and do some arena. I would also suggest buying the welcome package. Its cheap and you get a guaranteed class legendary.
NO!, NO NO!

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Arena is a bad advice if you do not know the game really well.
If you want to learn Arena, watch Kripparian streams ( https://www.youtube.com/user/Kripparrian )
Buy 10 packs of each new expansion (Witchwood, Rastakhan Rumble, Boomsday Project) for a guaranteed legendary.
DO NOT buy the expansions that will be unplayable in standard in 2 months (Witchwood, Journey to UnGoro, Knights of the Frozen Throne)
Then, save for the next expansion.

Oh, and do NOT dust other cards than duplicates (meaning you have more than 2 of them). You may need them later.

Ok understood
Will do
Best thing in this F2P case is install ( HearthArena ) and play Arena to double your golds then make a ( how to spend 2000 G ) thread .
Save them in the bank for no reason xD I don't know why I stack gold, but it feels good to be rich on gold
