I’m genuinely curious, do you guys think Hearthstone would be better without RNG or with reduced RNG? I dislike how games can be decided on luck, whereas with less RNG the only RNG is topdecking, which can’t be avoided. I think that if the game wasn’t built with RNG as a factor, I would probably play the game more (well, at all)
Tl;dr I think the rampant amount of RNG is bad for the game.
And, don’t get your panties in a twist, this isn’t a salt thread, merely me explaining how I feel and potentially how I would handle it, should people realize that’s what I’m trying to do.
Hearthstone simply targets a different player base. RNG is fun when you don't take the game super seriously and the most improbable thing happens (see any trolden video for example)
Hardcore card game fans probably need to detach themselves from Hearthstone or just play Arena where your skills actually matter more
That's the great thing about current gaming industry - there is a lot of games, so there is one for everyone. You don't like RNG and you said it yourself, MTG doesn't use much RNG, so why not just play MTG and leave RNG based Hearthstone to people, who enjoy it? Why do people always want to change one thing that others might enjoy instead of choosing another thing that is more up their alley?
Other than Tic Tac Toe, those are skill-based. Why shouldn’t other games be the same way?
RNG helps novice players fight against the skilled ones. If a high skilled chess player fights against a novice, then the former will win. But with RNG it's different. RNG in HS is a bit too much, I agree.

I’m not saying they need to change it, I’m saying I’d probably prefer an RNG-less HS to MTG.
I literally could not disagree more. The RNG is how HS differentiates itself from games like Magic (where it would be impossible anyway). It’s also the spice that makes the game really fun over the long haul. Don’t agree? Just play with the basic decks that you get when you first start a HS account for a single weekend then. And go ahead and force everyone else to play with them too. There is no RNG in those decks aside from card draw, but the game is nowhere near as fun. Also, it provides a glimmer of hope for people that don’t have as many cards or as much skill that they might just possibly win in an impossible situation, and that is a VERY good thing in my estimation, even though I do have the cards, and have played long enough to have “the skill”.

Games with the same resources for both players not need RNG. Games with different kind of resources for the players should have RNG. Reason? because that help in some way to balance the game. Also RNG in HS is very soft in terms that there is not a flip coin you dont just "win or lose" a chance there are a lot of cards that have 3 4 or even 5 outcomes.

There are some people like me that loves RNG, because it can create a great moment.
You may argue with me about it, but I'll not change. For competitive meta, yeah it does hurt.
I like elementals and totems.
No RNG in Chess, Checkers, and Tic Tac Toe.
Fair, I personally just dislike the feeling that you can lose because your opponent got the perfect card from discover or a similar effect.

HS is a CARD game. Duh.
MTG has almost no RNG other than card draws, and it’s a card game.
So play MTG then. This is the HS forum.
I’m trying to say what I wish HS would change. I like the game’s core but the RNG and recent gameplay have gotten me down on it.
For every great moment someone has with RNG, the person on the receiving end is cheated.
HS has RNG to make it stand out. It was made to accommodate for RNG, as games like MTG would have trouble with RNG in the way HS does it.
I feel like the RNG itself isn’t the issue, rather the overuse of it.

What's fun about facing a rogue that goes T1 > Prep + Academic into T2 > Warlock DK?
