I have currently massive problems against this archetyp because it is ridiculously strong against Secret Mage. What changes could i do to have a atleast the slightest chance to win? the 5 Mana 9/9 (but mostly 12/12) is extremly OP against since Mage has nothing efficent to deal with it. Everytime i get a Winstreak in Rank 6 i just que into a Hunter and lose.
Anyone playing Secret Mage and being successful against Spell Hunter?
probably the concede button. Other than that some AoE for the spawns or extra burn to finish them quicker. The deck is all spells manabind and counterspell have limited effectiveness. Every deck has a bad machup and in this case there probably isn't much you can do to change that.

Jeah it seems pretty hopeless since all 3 Secret that are played in Secret Mage are useless against Spell Hunter. Probably switch to Dragon Priest or Control Lock for the last games to Rank 5. Thanks for the comment
Burn him down, use your minions to control the board, never go face with them (at least the hunter dom't have secrets up, obviously). By denying the trigger of 2 secrets the hunter loses tempo and value, aa wel
It´s almost impossible to burn him down while having board control. Mostly i just lose at the point where he played his 5 Mana 12/12 Minions on Turn 5. At this point there is no recovery i can get.
Try swapping a mirror entity for spellbender. It protects your minions and baits out their coin if they went second. I have had success against them 5-1 (lucky, good mage, bad hunter?), but it's all in your opening hand and burning them down.
Btw flare is not checkmate. I got flared twice by a couple hunters and still won.
If the 5 mana 9/9 is what's giving you trouble, there is the option to run a copy of Flamestrike as a tech. Admittedly, this doesn't do a whole lot if they play it on turn 5, but there's only so much you can do in these matchups.
There is also something to be said about not running the most popular versions of a deck card for card. Secrets are stronger when your opponent doesn't know what secrets, youre running. Forgetting to play around a secret or playing around the wrong secret can be devastating.

This season i´m playing my "own" Decks... means i just took the core cards for the Secret Mage and added cards that i like. The Result was pretty great 28-21 right now and something around 16-7 before Rank 6. Played now 4 games with my Dragon Mage and made it finally to Rank 5.

I even added a Flamestrike and cut the second Firelands Portal. Problem is that it´s useless if the Hunter plays this spell on Turn 5-6. Mage doesn´t have anything that clears 3/3 minions and costs below 7. Well Meteor could be a option but it might be worse against other matchups.

Well im glad you made it to rank 5. That must have been quite a frustrating wall 12-14 at rank 6.
Honestly, being effective against other "light" decks was a part of Hunter's class identity since closed beta. This was changed a year ago, when Patches arrives. To consistently beat any form of aggro/tempo Hunter with Mage I'd recommend to add more control tools to recover health and regain the board.

Thanks! but what do u mean by "frustrating wall12-14 at rank 6", i´m sorry my english knowledge is pretty basic so i don´t understand what u mean with that. Today was actually the first time since the Frozen Throne release where i had a blast playing Ladder, usually i´m supposed to grind my way from Rank 10- to rank 5 for 1-2 days against Highlander Priest and Jade Druids. I just crafted Aluneth because it was the last Legendary from K&C i needed and made the Secret Mage deck, took me about 4h playing from Rank 10 to 5, which is usually the worst part of a season.

The problem would be that Aluneth wouldn´t fit in such a deck anymore.
Most of my games were when expansion was just released. after running into a few hunters, i can safely say hunter players have gotten better at countering what mages can do.
I also went ahead and tried the hunter archetype. Its definitely strong.

I think i might have misunderstood your post. I thought your initial 16-7 was included in the 28-21 record. I thought you said everytime you thought you would hitt a winstreak you ran into hunters.

That deck is a walk in the park for me... then again I am playing Priest.
Secret Mage is innately terrible against it though I'd imagine.
