I didn't spend a cent on this game since I got 0 legendaries from pre-order badget of Wotog.. Now I am able to open 40 packs with gold I saved up. It means I will not be "dissappointed" if I get nothing
This game would be extremely boring if you got 8+ legendaries on the very first day that the new expansion released. There are what? 23 new legendaries? takes a few months until we see another expansion? Enjoy what you got over time, don't ruin it for yourself the first day and then be bored for the new few months. You also got a lot of dust from the 'hall of fame' and a lot more from wild expansions that you disenchanted if you decided to do so like most. Legendaries should be meant to be crafted, not found in packs imo.
I say don't feel bad or dissapointed, feel happy that you have all these new cards to experiment with. Disenchant the ones you don't want to make those legendaires you didn't get so you can have fun. At the end of the day, the game is what you make of it. Either waste your money trying to get legendaries, or just craft them.
Same boat as OP, but with a decent multiplier to your investment total. Im 36 year old game enthusiast. The problem with collection based games of any kind is they just never have a rate of return equal to that of other games. Let's take a game like Skyrim for example... which you could purchase for $20 on Steam right now or most people got it for around $8 during a sale. Consider the amount of content and value you are getting from that transaction between the game itself, modding options, and just overall time/enjoyment.
I get it, they are different games, but they are still just games. The collectible card game model as it stands right now is a scam though. if you're going to spend $50 on a piece of content that should afford you the entirety of that content, like any other game. Card opening is inherently the driving mechanism for the problem. When you have a minority of your player base that's the majority of your revenue, that's a problem, because you start to alienate that revenue stream.
For those of us who have played since beta and made such a large investment in time/ $, it's unsustainable anymore in any shape. The game certainly hasn't become more fun or challenging, just more options to do the same thing... and that is not worth the price of admission.
And yes, spending money on this game is our choice, but like any product you purchase as a consumer there is a reasonable expectation. Hearthstone just does not deliver that for what you pay compared to any other consumer good.
I opened 34 free packs from gold and logins with zero legendaries. I was so close to the pity timer I had to spend $10 on 7 packs. In those 7 I got the warrior quest and spiritsinger umbra.
What really grinds me as someone who buys the preorder so I don't have to craft the extremely high waste of dust commons and rares is the insulting distribution of the cards in the packs.
I think the real scam is opening cards for 1/4th value as you have to dust them instead of cards you would otherwise have to craft.
4 legends off of 61 packs, I reset the pity counter earlier this week by getting the super sweet 1 in 8000 back to back to back finja. I got kragg in the tgt preorder and no other legendaries.
This is how it goes, buying more than the preorder doesn't make a lot of sense, even then you could against it if you have 5k +gold for the sake of crafting commons and rares. You will have to craft epics and legends regardless that's just this game.
I guess the only positive way to look at a crappy distribution of cards is you might play some classes / decks you wouldn't have otherwise. But everyone is crafting for their goto plans / decks / classes anyways. At least with the hall of dust almost everyone can make a few decks they want to play despite packs being poor.
This game needs a to have an option to buy full expansions for a flat price. No packs bullshit. Keep the packs for F2P's or when you save enough gold for an expansion.
This will never happen. Even if it did the price would probably be somewhere around $150-200 USD which is insane for what you're buying.
That's wrong with that? It's average. I always, always get a legendary after around 35~ packs since the last one. When EU release will hit i will open 58 packs, Pretty sure of will only pull One legendary.
Pity timer is what, 40 packs? So you're hitting the average.
Considering you post every fucking second on the salt thread I thought you would be a little more understanding of how frustrated this guy is. He has very valid points which should make blizzard ashamed. Robbing bastards...that is ridiculous. I am convinced there is a lower drop rate on cards bought with gold, people say there isn't but I think it's bullshit. It should be guaranteed legendary per 20 packs. The game is not cheap as others suggest, it's ridiculously expensive if you want to play fully right away. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. (Although, now you will see about 10 posts on how people are free to play and how big their cocks are! To that I also say bollocks, get a life and a job)
It is well known that the pity timer is 1 in 40, so I don't see how one could complain about getting exactly that. It's like playing Lightning Storm and then complaining that you only dealt 2 damage, even though you knew that was a possibility.
Nobody is getting screwed here guys, let's take it easy. If you hit more than 1 in 40, that's great! In the long run, it will even out to an average of 1 in 40 though.
The reason the pity timer is 40 is because that's past the average. If 1 in 40 was the average then the pity timer would be higher. Like another person said, the average is 1 in every 20. Hitting the pity timer for his next legendary 3 times in a row is incredibly unlucky and not probable.
Even so I am still not able to login .. I am scared of opening any Ungoro packs .. Like blizzaed, fuck this shit: * 3 expansions of 130+ cards instead of 2adventures+1expansion * twice as many legendaries & 90% of quest legs are shit * lower percentage of legs and epics seriously, blizzard, FUCK THIS SHIT!! - the game itself is way mooore expensive than any 90% of other video games!!
I seriously do not see how any new player would join HS now or in half a year .. it will be like pay $1000+ or suck & suck & suck & suck ..
I opened 58 packs and got 6 legendaries 1 was a dup and because HS team is awesome I have 10k dust to get what ever else I want. If you enjoy the game then play I hate when people gamble their money and get burned if I only opened 1 I wouldn't have complained it's a gamble just like buying yu gi oh cards nothing is guaranteed and you have the craft option....
I'm an adult, good natured, and not someone that has ever complained about the game here or elsewhere... but I just opened 114 Un'Goro packs and got 3 legendaries. and a moderate amount of epics.
to the point that I 've begun to feel rather ashamed of having gotten involved in what, in any other business arena, would essentially be considered a scam.
The price is fair, there are multiple players willing to pay it even though F2P is an option.
With two legendaries being released for each class, and my now having only one quest card, plus this incredibly poor rate of drawing legendaries, the prospect of my getting to the point where I can really enjoy this expansion and get to play many different type of quests seems as if it would be absurdly expensive. And, like I said, this is from someone who has had no regrets spending over $1000. But this is totally ridiculous, if I project what this expansion would potentially cost me if I wanted to continue playing with a wide variety of decks.
So you are angry because you didn't save any dust for an upcoming expansion and didn't craft Sylvanas and Rag, and because you have not in the two and a half years you have played learnt not to rely on packs to obtain legendaries?
I've been wondering how the game's makers would respond to the probability that the game's user base does not likely have much more room for expansion, since, occasionally, businesses with little perspective and a bad business model sometime attempt to compensate for such a situation by trying to take advantage of their existing customers when growth slows down.
With the amount of profit Hearthstone makes you can't just say they have a bad business model or little perspective.
I was afraid I might see this happen with Hearthstone, and was concerned that the release of two legendaries per class might be a (not too subtle) sign of this, but I tried to keep an open mind.
There are only 3 legendaries more in UNG than in previous exps, and if anything it makes the game cheaper due to the players of any given class having less neutrals to collect.
Getting only 3 legengaries in 114 packs, on the other hand, seems only to confirm my worse fears, and is making me wish that I'd never gotten involved in this illogical, virtual-pack nonsense to begin with. Maybe I'm the fool for having gone this far, but this is utterly ridiculous. In any other business arena, this business model would in itself be considered a scam or fraud, never mind with this type of result. I can't see myself continuing with the game.
It's just RNG. What is this business model you're talking of that would be considered a scam in any other area? Not being able to have everything for free? Paying for entertainment? Randomness?

You are correct, I was mistaking my numbers with something else. But still the point remains - there is no glitch here, no one is getting screwed by Blizzard, this isn't "unacceptable bullshit." These numbers happen every time there's a pre-order. Some get lucky, some hit 1 in 40.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Please stop blindly believing in the pity timer, you people are worse than people that try to prove to you that their god exists. The reason that people almost always get a legendary in 40 packs, is because of the fact that the legendaries have around 2.5% chance of appearing in a pack. So, 2.5*40 equals to a 100, however there IS NO GUARANTEE. There will always be the 0.00001% of situations when a person has opened way more than 40 packs and haven't gotten a legendary - I've had this happen to me in TGT. I bought 50 packs total, and my first (and only) legendary in the initial opening was in the 46th pack.

Definitely fewer legionaries for me than usually.

75 packs here, 2 legendaries. Priest and druid quests. Definitely something messed up.

I opened 53 packs, got Hemet ... and no quests (which should never have been 1600 dust to craft in the first place)
The last legendary I opened before Hemet ... Mayor Noggenfogger(and only legendary from Mean Streets).
Ouchies.
You mean after you spent real money? It's almost as if the game knew. ;)
