I keep hearing all of these names for different deck types. handlock, miracle, etc.. can anyone please lay out an easy to read post on all the types of decks. thank you
Warlock Zoo: Fast, small creatures that try to overwhelm you before you can set up your board.
Miracle Rogue: Low-cost spells that kill minions and do direct damage to your character, using Gadgetzan Auctioneer to refill their hand. Usually uses Leeroy Jenkins + Shadowstep as a finisher.
Crusher Shaman: A deck filled with taunts and big creatures, using Ancestral Spirit to double the value.
Handlock: A control warlock variant that keeps lots of cards in-hand to cast cards like Twilight Drake and Mountain Giant.
Warrior Control: Usually works by keeping the opponent's board clear while building up armor with Armorsmith and Shield Block so it can play finishers like Alexstrasza and Ragnaros the Firelord uninterrupted late game.
Ramp Druid: Uses cards like Innervate and Wild Growth to play big minions early.
Token Druid: Combos Force of Nature and other token producers with Savage Roar for low-cost/high-damage.
I appreciate it I am learning still but have been playing for 2-3 months. I have just been trying to learn on my own the best I could and now I feel like I will do even better by having a better knowledge from a huge source of players helpful to teach. So thanks to all
To answer both this question and your thread about understanding the meta, the two things I found most helpful were reading the decks posted here and watching streamers. A lot of folks do a fantastic job with the deck write-ups and there's a lot of great information there. Find streamers that you like and that talk through their decision-making process. They're usually playing some flavor of one of the top decks and they'll play against a lot of the standard meta decks, and they do it at a rank where there are a lot fewer mistakes made. If you're at a rank where all you see is Zoo, it's a great way to see the other decks played well.
Also, if you have the cards, try putting together some of the standard decks and playing them - I know that gave me a better feel for how those decks work, and what to expect when.
When I first started I felt like there was no way I would ever be able to recognize the meta, that just learning how to play a deck was hard enough. But learning the deck archetypes has made recognizing the meta easier, even though I'm still not great at knowing how to respond. It just takes time, and these forums have been a terrific source of knowledge and help to me.
