Ah the blissful gullibility of some. I opened this thread and read that official response. If that instills anyone with hope, I wish you best of luck in life....you will likely be conned countless times in ways that matter much more than this.
So every player has all the basic cards (these are the starter cards). Most players have a large number of the classic/expert set, since these have been around forever, been staples, and are offered as rewards for spectate quests and tavern brawls. These are the 2 sets that will see nerfs. So in addition to removing Naxx and GVG, which many had at least a few key cards from, now reliable cards from the classic/basic set will also become unusable.
The biggest problem is how they treated Wild as a whore from the beginning with.
1. Only World Point for Standard
2. Tournaments only for standard
3. Wild Rank not visible etc.
And just for the topping Zeriyah comming out telling they will only look at wild if thers a turn 1-2 kill combo....IN HEARTHSTONE. WTF?!
Also they basically shooting thi out of the blue while giving no refunds for golden card crafts?! Just understandable the Rage.
And how they just slaughtering 160 cards just because there are 4?! Op ones instead of just nerfing them while community wanted such a nerf from day 1?
And planing on nerfing basic/classic card set in adition....
Basically everything with this implementation is fucked up and some people wonder why so many people are pissed atm?! Seriously?
Corporate spokesman in damage control mode spinning a web of happy sounding platitudes while actually saying nothing concrete.
Oh yeah, that gives me a lot of faith in the future of this game.
Blizzard held a SECRET meeting with a bunch of streamers and top tournament players and worked out this scheme which perfectly suits insiders who make money off Hearthstone. Did they seek out any kind of community feedback from average players while in the planning phase? No! They dropped the whole thing on us like a bomb. It's a done deal, this is the plan, how we feel about it is irrelevant.

Yeah not a money grab at all.
Of course it is a money grab, but I believe the game will benefit in the long run just as MTG benefited from similar changes many years ago.
For a vanilla minion at a given mana slot, they can:
Print something that is strictly worse than an existing Basic card. This will make everyone who gets that in a pack very angry, particularly if they paid money for the pack.
Print something that is equal to the Basic (a functional reprint). This will make people only slightly less angry (perhaps running 3 yeti's in a deck could be useful).
Print something that is strictly better. This makes everyone who opens it in a pack at least slightly happy.
Oooor, they can buff said minions and design an actual new card because it's not that hard. I understand the purpose of vanilla cards and it's a enigma to me why haven't all vanilla minions been included in the basic/classic. 5 mana 5/6 put a name, copy pasta some artwork BOOM a card. Do we really need to wait several sts to get vanilla minions for every slot?
Also, lol at buying cards to upgrade my initial basic ones. Those are Ben Brode Kenobi's words, that old sorcerer sure knows how to mind control people around. What's an upgrade? A lazy excuse for not balancing your s*** and make all cards playable?
You need vanilla minions in order to help define a drafting curve for Arena. And if you move beyond vanilla cards (and "French vanilla": taunt, charge minions) there are a lot of cards that have similar abilities (battle cry: do N damage) which can be compared to one another. Having strictly worse cards creates a skill test for drafting. If all minions were "balanced" with respect to their mana cost, even noobs could draft as good a deck as a pro. It also creates interesting decisions - do I choose the "bad" 3-drop to fill a hole in my mana curve?
If you buff cards at random, what is the point of having a collection? Every patch, you have a new set of cards that just happen to share the name and art of your old cards. Yes, it's a video game, and they could emulate fighting games which tweak game parameters every patch. However, this is a card game, and following the collection model of other card games. If everyone had access to the whole collection, it might make sense to tweak a fixed set of cards around. I believe there are some card games that follow that model. I do not know much about them, but I believe they have a lot less players than card games following the collection model.
Even if they buffed a card, who cares? If they buffed the basic card instead of creating Ice Rager, it would only save you 80 dust if you wanted to craft them. For even my relatively new FTP acount, 80 dust is not a big deal. And if they did the buff, they would create a precedent, and people would continuously scream for more. (Yes, I know that they did buffs during beta; that is what beta testing is for.)
Same old Hearthstone community. Beg for something for months then, when it arrives, say it's the worst thing ever.
I don't mind standard, but classic should be rotated, not changed, this way people who enjoy HS for what it is can continue to play it in wild and go on like before.
This is blizzard....game will never die cause of that. However hearthstone's best days are behind. The playerbase will decline, rather than grow from this point on.

The only cancer in Hearthstone is its community.
Aggro Hunter has Mad Scientist and Haunted Creeper in all his matches, while his opponent might not have Zombie Chow or Deathlord .I mean since when mech mage, face shaman or zoolock run Deathlord?
