Very mixed comments about this card.. It is a bit funny that some people consider this card as a Piloted Shredder nerf^^ (it surely is a buff for the Shredder in almost all cases) The 3 Damage which you will get isn't a big deal. If this card sees play is probably more meta dependant. Especially if there are tons of Mages out there, this card hasn't that much of a benefit but against most classes it is a nice card. This is a card with huge potential.. The drawback is usually very minor but lots of mages and lots of 3/2 2 drops weaken this card.
Mages? what about face hunter kill command, shaman totem crackle, Warlock power overwheling trades, and war weapon can just attack it and armor up so you take more dmg than him. This can will only be good vs maybe pali or priest and druid. Any deck version of those classes this card is good against , is not played.
4/3 is easy to kill... that's why succubus is not used.
No that's not why. It's because it makes you discard a card...
No, it's because cost is not worth the reward. If Succubus was better, you could stand discarding a card (Doomguard), but 2-drop killable by other 2-drops, both spells and minions, most of the time is not worth any drawback. What may be the case here as well.
Well the cost is subjective. MAYBE one day there will be some sort of Discard-Warlock deck that actually has synergy with Succubus, then it will be played more often and the reward would actually be worth it. However, the only competitive Warlock decks right now are Handlock and Zoo and neither of them would want to discard any cards, which is why she isn't played.
Extremely powerful early game, possibly neckbreaking late game. There will be contests and videos about who can deal the most damage to the Warlock through Wrathguard! It will be glorious.
The only gripe I have is the art, which doesn't pay the creature justice. Should have used this one instead:
Compare to Flame Imp or Succubus: On the one hand, you don't have to pay the cost immediately. In certain zoo decks, you may even be able to end the game before the price has to be paid. On the other hand, his drawback isn't a battlecry, so it can't be circumvented by voidcaller, and he deals any overkill damage to your hero, which allows enemies to kill him and attack your face at the same time, and he allows damage that can only be dealt to minions to hit the face as well. Killing this with Darkbomb, Shadowbolt, Frostbolt, Flamecannon, Swipe, Wrath or Hammer of Wrath gets a lot of value. Shield Block+Shield Slam has the potential to really mess up your insides.
I personally think about it more like a weapon then a minion. Just about any class would take a 4/1 weapon that doesn't loose durrability when you attack face and hurts the enemy when they attack your face.
It has one very noticeable downside when compared with a weapon; it doesn't have charge and so cannot immediately respond to the opponent's board. Since this is the reason weapons are actually good, I'm not sure the comparison is a good one...
If this minion runs into a giant, will the hero take 8 damage or 3 damage?
Assumeing 8. If you 4 damage Implosion a 1 HP minion you still get 4 imps. If a buffed Mistress of Pain hits something for 3 when it has 1 HP you still get 3.
There's no point in people theory crafting up examples of when this card is amazing or when it's terrible, there's very few cards which look "good" where if you try to think up the worst possible outcome for them being played (e.g. Dr. Boom gets countered by BGH, so it must suck? No.)
The card looks like it's designed for early mulligans to control the board. Yes you will take face damage on it, but if you're against agro then it's likely that you're going to take face damage anyway if you played another card and then it's you who is forced into a possibly unfavourable trade. This card in a lot of cases will allow you to trade multiple times with one card instead of using a few drops, which gives you extra chances to play answers which survive and don't need to be traded in as a game of catchup.
Ofcourse without seeing all the other cards and thinking about how slow the game will be then this might just turn into a "lose more" card as agro ignores it and you endup taking face damage yourself for little/no gain while trading. It does show some signs that Blizzard are trying to address problems in the game though and that's good.
Correct , Its value givesu face pluss board clear. I rather play succubus.
This card is the primary incentive to run the new card Flame Lance.
It's basically a Scavenging Hyena but starts out with "one beast dead", and is resilient to silence... At the expanse of making your matchup with hunters from bad to unwinnable.
It's mana value is pretty much 3, but for that 1 mana crystal of temporary tempo, you pay roughly 5 life. That's very expensive for warlocks that already struggle against face hunters.
The nightmare is playing a deck with 2x flame imp, 2x wrathguard, 2x pit lord against a hunter. Turn 7 lethal? how about turn 5 lethal.
These cards would be kinda cool if warlock got a card that made cards that deal damage to you, heal you instead, on your turn only of course. This would put this strategy into an interesting spot.
It's almost too the point we whiles well not have a expansion because almost all the cards are unplayable. This Wrathguard is a worse late game draw then Zombie Chow....In what situation is the drawback worth the extra 1+ 1+ which dies to any 3/2 or removal anyway? It's trash. It's a shame because the Wrathguard is iconic and it deserved more then this, and more bad ass.
Not bad card but i would never use 2 of those in a deck because it has even worse drawback than zombie chow late game. It can be only usefull early game when opponent plays a 2/3 or 2/2 and have no answer to it, if he has 1 dmg hero power he loses tempo in next turn if not he's boned anyway.
The difference between a 1 mana 3/2 and a 2 mana 4/3 is massive. paying almost nothing in mana for a vanilla 2 drop is awesome. That's why Flame Imp is awesome-- it's like the aggro equivalent of Zombie Chow. This is by no means a Flame Imp, because it costs just as much mana as two Flame Imps for +1/+1 in stats. Not to mention this card can get overkilled and you take more than 3 damage.
Absolute garbage in constructed because you're already playing Flame Imps, and now you have this card which makes you lose even harder to aggro stuff. Oh and it still dies to Frostbolt and Wrath and other similar cards. Baiting out 2 mana removals is Knife Juggler's job.
What do you cut for this in Zoo? The worst 2 mana card in Zoo is probably Haunted Creeper or sometimes Dire Wolf Alpha (Egg and Juggler are very nice). Is this better than those? I'm skeptical.
I'm not even sure it's that good in arena either. Warlocks really like their HP in arena so they aren't at risk of dying to aggro shit-- and in arena tempo is still really important so you'll often get zerged down.
I want to play Moltens. Quick!

I think this card will have very good synergy with molterns vs agro in handlock deck.
TL;DR the first 8 pages.
If this minion runs into a giant, will the hero take 8 damage or 3 damage?
Do you play Go/Weiqi/Baduk?
I am 4D

Absolutely love this card.

Counters Totem Golem or vice versa
Different downside, you pay life instead of cards. Admittedly, that is more preferable since decksize is so small.
NEVER taunt this card. also, terrible in the top deck big minion wars.
Assumeing 8. If you 4 damage Implosion a 1 HP minion you still get 4 imps. If a buffed Mistress of Pain hits something for 3 when it has 1 HP you still get 3.
Current Deck -http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/240420-army-paladin - Token Paladin
Also dont forget , if you tap into this its also a -2 hp as well.

This is a great card and will definitely see some play in demon zoo.

2 mana Pit Lord.

i can think of some pretty funny priest/Wild Pyromancer combos against this guy.
