I hope they unlock everything in Duels soon. I wasn't expecting Duels to have such a meta-oriented gameplay with everyone playing the same decks so soon. Variety is what is gonna make this mode shine.
Some of the current hero powers are just laughable by comparison. Look at rogues for example. A 2/2 weapon instead of a 1/2 IF you combo. That’s it. Shamans hero power gets you not only a second totem, but a better one. Mage spawns mana wyrms. Priests does 50% more healing and draws. Paladins is silver hand recruit on steroids. Rogue? +1 attacks WITH a condition attached.
Then you have the starting treasures. I’m going to pick on rogue again because they honestly just got screwed with their launch options. It is basically just upgrade that gives +1 attack for two more mana. The poisonous aspect is actually kind of awkward based on play. Your essentially buffing your weapon to the point where it can one shot most minions you are wanting to attack anyways. The poisonous has niche times when it helps, but actually not as much as you think. Poisonous on a 4-6 attack weapon is just awkward.
There are power differences elsewhere, but I picked on rogue because based on my experience, they feel the most lackluster other than the first two rounds of the climb.
Even with all the options opened I predict websites out there crunch the numbers within days and its copy/paste decks everywhere....aggro, you know it''ll be aggro. We've had a taste of it. My hype for the mode is low now.
Meta oriented game play - isn’t this what hearthstone is all about? Duels is no different with the only exception of the casino element as you progress.
I think it will fail anyway - who would pay to play heroic, play against the same decks again and again and leave blizzards casino algorithm decide who wins or loses?!
I think Blizz also messed up royally by blocking early access with a paywall or twitch drops.
It worked with BG because auto-battlers were a new & fresh game type which were starting to reach mainstream popularity so curiosity and the desire to try the mode out were ultra high....but duels - while fun IMO - is just a pvp dungeon run mode....there's really nothing fresh or exciting about it.
Blizz was banking on the same hype build as BG and it is going to end up being a gamble they lose because people who didn't preorder or acquire a twitch access key will have had a month hearing about how mediocre it is.

Yeah we just need more options.

Currently in casual you can craft decks centered around certain treasures and just retire if you don't hit it.
I'd say it's a worse version of constructed as the treasures matter more than the deck.
The more I play the mode the more I actively hate it tbh.
