I am literally rating zero.... IE, the lowest you can be.... and yet I relentlessly come in dead last. I have not managed to even come in second last. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have tried focusing 100% of my efforts into upgrading the tavern and then buying minions, I have tried flooding low level minions, I have tried tribals to combo like dragons, pirates, and murlocs.... but my minions only get to like 12/12 and by turn 8 I'm facing 47/47s. In most game modes I always find until I get a rank I'm horribly outclassed with new players who are much better than me, so I think that's part of the problem, but something I'm doing is clearly wrong. Please help!
Yep, agree, watching streamers on Twitch play BGs is a great way to get insights how to play - not just the game itself, but - and probably more importantly - how to play the hero you have chosen alongside the tribes that are on offer.
Not all heroes follow the usual (ish) default strategy of Turn 1 Buy, Turn 2 Level, Turn 3 Sell Buy Buy, Turn 4 Buy Buy, Turn 5 Buy Level and so on. Some heroes you want to stay at L1 and then go straight to L3. Some need power levelling. Some heroes you can stay at L1 pretty much all game.
But if all else fails, just look for the best value minions in the early levels, irrespective of what tribe they are, and then look to start to properly build from Turn 5/6 onwards. Doing this should help you get your buddy on the board sooner rather than later, and its these dudes that turn good builds into truly powerful ones. Dont beat yourself up over losses - try and learn something from the game youve played (especially the specific hero youve played) and take it forward.
I watched Kripp on YouTube when I was first starting in 2019. You get a good idea about the fundamentals from him. Although if you want to get better after 6k MMR you may want to watch someone else lol.
To put it in it's simplest terms, you need to overthink everything. Spend a lot of the time at the hero selection screen, studying the tribes and how each hero can or can't win based on the selections. It's always best to come in with a plan, you can't force that plan, but it's always best to have one.
You also have to really understand in situations how either leveling or not leveling benefits you, winning is all about those big power level swings, and sometimes the only way to do that is by leveling, but you also have to understand in that situation if leveling is safe or will leave you dead. And in some cases all you can do in those cases is pull out a top 4. But sometimes leveling is completely pointless and just wastes your turn for no reason.
You obviously need an understanding of what's possible in the game, and that's just too long to get into. It's a lot of trial and error, learning from your losses and yes looking at other streamers play.
The simple way to put it: try to get a tribe that no one else uses. Make sure you have minions that grow permanently and redirect attack with taunts. Try to get value with avenge minion till the midgame if possible. The rest is more or less luck. The hero is also important that can influence your choice which tribe or minions you use.
