Hi, first of all I'm not sure if I should have put this in here or in the "deckbuilding", sorry if I missed !
Do you guys have an opinion about having the DK in zoo ? I played a lot of zoo this past couple days and I feel like I almost never can play the DK. Most games actually end before turn 10. I'm forced to play my doomguards as early as possible against a lot of control decks to put enough pressure before voidlords/anduin machinegun/etc comes to play, but then Gul'Dan gets discarded.
At this point, I feel like this card comes too late for either tempo matchups or control. I thought about replacing it with either Leeroy to help against control or the new 4 mana 7/7 if you're below 15 HP (probably better against tempo).
Btw, I'm using Amnesiac's list (no keleseth, demon's buff). THX !
he's a guy fail safe to have against classes that can extend their survavility into the late game and will probably punish you for reaching that point on the game.
The only real match-up where I see this being a good play is to grind out Tempo Rogues in the late game if the game lasts that long.
I'm not sure for the replacement though because everytime I tech a card like eater of secret of such, I always never face a mage until I get it out of my deck :D
I struggled with this for a while as well. It’s so tough to justify running him as a mostly dead card, and especially tilting when you discard him RIGHT before you actually need him.
Honestly i don’t think it’s a bad inclusion. A) It just feels AMAZING to be getting beaten back and then drop him. Multiple doomguards can insta lethal, or great trades. Despicable Dreadlords lash the enemy board and finish off weak/wounded minions that are pressuring you, (especially since your life total is most likely low for the fact you’ve been tapping all game for more fuel). 1/3 and 2/4 taunts can be game saving as well, against minion pressure for classes with low burn.
B) Discarding him is not always a bad outcome (vs Aggro and some midrange).
C) He rewards calculated risks, for players like myself that enjoy poker and dislike the RNG, but certainly you can hedge your bets and improve your odds for a certain outcome depending on how many cards you have when you discard. If you’re smart, you’ll end up keeping him more often than you toss him (and vise Versa) when you want.
As most have said .. he is an insurance policy. If things go well, you shouldn't need him. If they go really badly, he won't help ... but when you need him .. you REALLY need him.
It does suck when you are facing lethal, and either a Doomguard or Soulfire is your only way to survive, and that discards your DK. What I hate even worse is discarding him mid-game to keep tempo, and then having my opponent claw their way back (usually involves a priest healing for 75624 in one turn).
I can tell you that I have almost always had him in my zoo deck, and I am pretty sure he has won me more games than the dead draw has lost.

I feel the same way
Imo he hurts you more sitting as a dead card in your hand more then the times he helps you win a game
I like both of you sub ideas guess it really depends what kinds of decks you are seeing more of on a given day

D) He’s fun as hell to slam onto the board.
I say play him.

Depends on the list.
If your list runs Bonemare and Dreadlord then your zoo can adapt to the midgame and gul dan makes sense.
If your list is full aggressive and curves out at 5 then gul dan can be cut.
thonk he is overrated in zoo and isn't actually worth inclusion, he rarely wins games since he is mostly a discard fodder.
