Hi there! I came here some days ago asking for some advice for building a Warlock Control deck. I followed the steps and at first that deck worked wonders but right now I'm stuck in Diamond 2 and I'm not able to win a single fucking game D:
I tend to see myself totally overwhelmed by hard rush with extra-summons (like Razorfen Hunters) and even if I have a hellfire they keep on summoning things and with a few removals they destroy everything I can bring to the battlefield. Hunters just pop some very low-cost basic cards and I can't manage all that shit, they use that "blood lust with charge" they got, and bye bye. Some spell-power decks crush me too, in the main part mages that just sheep, cc and nuke my poor Gul'dan. Don't have to say anything about Anduin, I find playing vs priest totally obnoxious if they have a good deck.
I know sometimes I make mistakes, but many others I just stay thinking "So, wtf am I supposed to do here, because there's absolutelly nothing I can/could do to stop that". Am I just really unlucky when drawing? (cause I think so, I find myself many times with Ragnaros, Jaraxxus and Twisting Nether by turn 5-6, but I'd want to keep that cards on my deck Y____Y). I usually play for the late game, using spells and healing minions to survive and then I try to drop Jaraxxus when I "know" they don't have an easy way to nuke me right after. But some times I don't even get to that point, so I don't know what to do. As said, I feel like I don't have much field presence. I think Hogger is perfect for that, but don't know why I always get him by turn 9+ when it's a bit too late.
- Anyway, do you see any easy improvements to that deck? Should I just change completely the style if I wanna win something here in Diamond?
- By turn 9, if you got Jaraxxus, Ragnaros and Twisting Nether, which is the order you would use them in different scenarios? If you can explain a bit, cause sometimes I just don't know what to pop first (I know it would be totally diferent if enemy has minions or not in field and that stuff, but if you can tell me some experiences I'd appreciate it).
I'd consider dropping those cards for some early game pressure. Currently, you have way too much removal and too little field presence in the early game (as you pointed out yourself).
If you plan on playing a late game deck, Soulfire is simply counter-productive. Drain Life isn't needed since you have Shadow Bolt (hands down the better removal card). Darkscale Healer is mediocre at best, if it only heals your hero b/c you have no minions on the field it's terrible and Sacrificial Pact is bad in itself since you don't want to 'sacrifice' board presence for the sake of 5 hp. Additionally, you have little board presence anyway, so why would you want to undermine your position even further for the sake of 5 hp?
The health of your hero should be considered a resource that can be spent in order to obtain board control. Healing one's hero is often mistaken for defensive play when in fact it's often just a waste of a turn that gives your opponent additional momentum.
As I said, opt for some low const minions instead. There are some great ones, even among basic/common cards. For instance, you might want to consider Flame Imp, Scarlet Crusader, Shattered Sun Cleric and Chillwind Yetis.
This actually looks very much like my own Jaraxxus deck, sans legendaries. I'll edit it into this post, and compare the two, because my deck feels incredibly successful at my high MMR. Just using this post to remind myself to do so because my Bnet is being acting up. Is Hearthstone down?
For what I've seen thus far, Darkscale isn't very good for the deck, you may want Flame Imps as it's very good to lower your health down, and you may want Molten Giants to combo with your health loss and Shadowflame. Maybe another Argus as well, and you're missing a bit of mill for Jrax like Sense Demons, which is essentially a 1 for 2 as well and great to play on turn 4 seeing how you only have 1 drop demons and Jrax.
I don't have Sacrificial Pact in my deck, I don't know if you could have confused it with Shadowburn, maybe? D:
Anyway, thanks a lot for that tips. Do you think I should just drop both Darkscale, or keep at least one? Same with Soul Fire. Sometimes I feel at least one could be nice in late, but having 2 many times is bad cause I stay with both in my hand (so I gotta discard one T_T). So I think I'll drop one Soul Fire, Darkscales maybe both, yeh. I'll drop one Drain Life and keep one too, I think (sometimes I find it useful).
Yw mate. I'd honestly drop both Darkscales and Solefires. If you add some low cost minions, 2 Shadow Bolts and 2 Drain Soles should be all the removal you need.
I think you should keep both Soulfires, they're great for keeping yourself alive, you don't have a problem card advantage as a Warlock, but board control and keeping yourself alive by reducing damage each turn. Darkscales aren't too useful, but Soulfire and Drain Life are pretty necessary in my eyes.
Here's the deck, it's my actual deck in game so I don't really have other legendaries. Maybe you're missing some key components like a tutor for Jaraxxus to pull him when you actually need him, some spellpower to push your board wipe up to 4 damage, and a bit more early game? All of this adds up to trying to reach end game while maintaining a clear board and getting Jrax out safely and putting constant pressure for the win.
Yeh! That's "similar" to what I'm using! I see the differences as ocasional pro/cons, yours have some advantages and mine others. For now, with that changes you both suggested, I'm starting to get better results! :P
In my opinion, at least with this deck, I'm getting better results with Ragnaros than Ysera. Plus if they silence Ragny, he becomes a 8/8 that hits like a truck :3
For now I'm doing quite well, only problem are priests, I find them fucking disgusting after buffs.

Soulfire, Drain Life, Darkscale Healer, Sacrificial Pact

OK, for now I'll drop both Darkscales + 1 Soulfire and check some of the alternatives you say (going right now for Flame Imps!)
Thanks a lot for your info :)

Yeah, if I had a Alex or Rag, I'd definitely play them.
Or Ysera.
Or Sylvanas.
Or Harrison.
