Starting to get pretty irritated now. People keep praising these mid-range Hunter Decks and they are NOT cutting it. Whats the trick? Whats the deal? What matchups are simply bad?
Need some details here - if people are truly raking up with these decks, can we get some proof? I find it hard to believe since Im playing the same decks and they keep falling short in various areas.
It helps a lot. But, if this deck is THAT hard to play...I might rather try something else. It also seems horribly dependent on starting cards. Most decks are but this one seems extremely reliant on it. Then, your first 3-4 draws are also crucial. Just feels like to win - a LOT has to fall into place.
I have the deck Im using posted in the MyDecks section so I believe you can see it there. Im sure some of this is me but there are times when I simply have no "play" and my hand is loaded with cards Id rather not use or cant get value out of. I appreciate the advice on Houndmaster - I always wait to play him and probably need to use him as a basic 4/3 if I have no Beast. Things like that.
This deck does run out of steam though - try beating a secret Mage with all of the usual Bull Shit freeze, fireball crap. You can NOT win. Cant get enough face damage and you'll never have enough big cards for late game.
Justy lost to another Mage fuck-ass legendary deck and a Druid. Whatever. What a joke. You guys must be drawing great matchups No WAY you're beating the decks Im going against. They got answers for everything and then some.
Back to Facehunter - at least by turn 5 you know if you won or not and can grind more effeciently, LOL.
Yea agreed, there's definitely a feeling of paid moderation, or paid shills to literally throw people off by saying certain decks are beter than others, all the top decks in the lists are literally not applicable to ranking or laddering up past 10 so why are they being posted? Somethings not right mid range hunter is no where near good enough to get you to rank 5, and i know this because ive hit rank 2 this season
OK. I guess. I never said anything about paid shills. I cant tell if you're serious or not though. Thanks, I think. Or not.
First I need to know what you are loosing against with hunter, might be a problem with an outdated list.
I had a great run a few days ago where I was beating Dragon priests, a Patron Warrior, Couple of Shamans, and a non-secret paladin. Was loving life. Got to Rank 10 which is good for me. Then...holy crap..... destroyed by Mech Mages & spell Mages, Control Warriors, Secret Paladins(even with Flares... they have the board regardless of whether my flare works or not), and Ramp Druids.
It seems that the mid-Hunter deck has a tough time with longer games - as in it doesnt contain enough "heavy artillery" to get that last face hit or to play around my opponents big minions. Yeah - Savannah and Boom are great and I run Sylvanas too. But, if they get dealt with quickly or dont last long..... what then? The smaller minions dont cut it late-game, not against big minions they dont. Thats where I have trouble: When we are up to turns 8-10. I need more big -guns. Kill Command isnt enough :)
Now, of course, maybe Im not going face enough early - certainly that would be on me. But, one Healbot(which the Mages always run) and a lot of your face damage is now gone. Druids have some FAT Taunts to deal with too. With two owls you can silenece them but they are STILL big bodies, like 4/6 so they arent dead and will hit your face. Im probably doing something wrong.... but many times I look at my hand and its like: I have NOTHING to play. What then??? LOL

Why would anyone be motivated to pay someone to tell you a deck is better than another deck?
Getting to R5 is easy story with Midrange ( as is with most decks ), beyond that you need, in my honest opinion, more luck and decision making than some other top tier decks. Best matchups for me are ramp druid, wallet warrior and mage, especially the freezing kind. Worst is probably patron, secret pally is 50/50 and facerush decks are usually 25/75 in their favor, though the explosive trap helps. Tech what you need to fit in the meta, you should not use loatheb if you're only facing rush decks, etc.

Edit: oh, and you wanted proof, so:
Thanks - and good job on ranking up! Easy? easy for some of us, lol ;)
From looking over your list, it seems a too slow. The problem cards are:
Hunters Mark: some will disagree with me on this. I used mark last season, but it doesn't seem to get enough value at the moment. It is also dead on it own. Can lose you the game when top decking.
Houndmaster/Stranglethorn Tiger: If you insist on playing the tiger, you need the double Houndmaster. Id use 2 regardless, he is too good. Same as with Hunters Mark, i used the Tiger last season, but is too slow now. If you made a Beast hunter deck, of include him.
Gilbin Stalker: Put Knife Juggler back in for him, no question. Knife juggler is superior in nearly every way, and combos very nicely with UTH and Creeper.
Ironbeak Owl: Cut to 1, you aren't face hunter. You have many more ways of getting through taunts, especially if you insist on using Hunters Mark.
Sylvanas: Take her out, she doesn't accomplish anything in the deck. Id go as fas saying she is terrible in this deck.
Thanks for the advice - Ive already pulled Gilblin out and put Juggler back in. Ill get rid of Stranglethorn too. He was in there when I was running Ellek to help with joust wins. He does have beast synergey too.
What a previous poster said is correct, the said IS good and it also isn't dependant on draw as it is very consistent .
I know you said in another post that you play sylvannas along 2 highmane and dr boom, that is exactly the kind of thing not helping you , you want early drops, and you already have enough late game with the highmanes.
Some classes simply don't cut it for certain players, example, mage is a great class, both mech and tempo is good, but I don't have success with it, maybe try another class that fist you better ?

Thanks for the reply. Sylvanas has been pulled out and I've made some changes to get my mana curve more towards the left side so to speak. Honestly, Sylvanas did win me a few games and I probably got too attached to her. Such a hottie too, lol. But, yeah, she's been sitting in my hand many games just being an overpriced 6 drop with no good minions to steal.
Hunter has been probably my best class on ranked. I also have a slow warlock Malygos deck that's a lot of fun to play but I couldn't get very far on ladder with it. Good advice though, I've also tried some Druid and Mage decks that were fun. I have some work to do, I know that. It's quite a humbling game sometimes.
This archtype is totally viable. Also, it's very fun.
If you are used to play with Facehunter, you will have to forget that playstyle for a while to learn how to use it properly. Also, if you are used to play with other classes, you will have to learn how to use the hero power to put pressure and how to use traps and bow to gain tempo.

Don't get me wrong , I love Sylvannas too, simply not here .
The problem is, when facing say 2 minions, they can trade both into leaving you with nothing, not the same will hapen with highmane .
Also, lets say against mage, dropping Sylvannas on a empty board will get you nowhere as you watch it get fireball'd .
With highmane this scenario leaves you with 2 2-2 , also, polymorph is not played in tempo and mech, so you will almost always have its effect .
Also, highmane is a 5 dmg kill command activator and so are his tokens, not the same to be said with Sylvannas, how many games have I won simply because of the 5 dmg + 2 hero power .
Well, unfortunately I just dropped more ranks and games. Three Paladins, one which was a massive healer and caused me to run out of steam. I hit his face for like 50 damage and it just didn't matter. Had to concede, out of cards and hope. The other two were just aggro and they fucking ruined me. Then, embarrassingly I got beat by what appeared to be a cheap, paladin basic card deck that ended up with board control and a frost wolf warlord that was buffed up. My ONE sole win in the last five games was against a Facehunter and that was easy. Damnit though, this ain't fair. What servers are you guys on? What classes and decks are you beating? This is beyond ridiculous. From 10 back to 14 in a matter of minutes, it seems. Maybe I'm just getting bad matchup but Paladins appear to be an impossible matchup and that's not even the s? ecret ones!
I always feel like I'm one card behind. The traps work sometimes but others they seem to be a waste. Just adds two mana cost to the minion so later in the game they just throw it back out there. And if it has charge or can heal or can silence? You just helped them out. I rarely have the board with this deck which doesn't help. They have 3-4 minions out there and I have 1-2. Every time. Hunter desperately needs a simple, hard removal like Priest or warlock. You have NO way to deal with big hitters. None. It's just driving me nuts because people are just on cruise control with this deck and claim it isn't draw dependent. Really? I pull a trap, loatheb, and highmane as my first cards? What the hell do I do with that? lol?
i know it's just a game. But it's NOT fun at all when you just sit there unable to do anything while your opponent seems to have access to their entire deck and cherry picks everything they need. I'll keep trying and see if I can draw some better match ups but...ehhh.... I dunno.

Can you post your decklist, we can start there :)
Also, most of the times you should have board control, I don't see why you don't seem to be able to achieve this, decklist might be a place to start looking .
Also, my hardest matchup was first priest which I never faced and druid is 50/50 , all other classes especially pally are in your favor , maybe not patron warrior though .
In my run to legend , on about 15 games to pally, I went 14-1 .
Perfecting the decklist and playstyle to matchups are the first steps here I think .
you need to just learn the deck and hunter in general. midrange hunter is more of a tempo deck. you need you treat it as a bursty deck not just say a combo/control deck. the reason decks seem so good against it is because they are built to counter midrange hunter and patron.
I find the decks are really good, main issue to bad draw/starting hand. Example, playing an agro deck and not getting explosive trap through drawing or scientist.
Finally hit rank 14, was stuck on 15 for ages. Still working on my deck and will post up soon to be advice from you fine folk.
As I'm running midrange/secret/beast hunter what's your guys view on Misdirection? Swapped 1 Bear Trap for a Snake Trap. Still trying shit. Also 4 mana drops, anyone run anything other than Houndmasters?

Misdirection is total garbage and unreliable . 1 snake is good, also . Against aggro UTH+Juggler combo can win the game on the spot .
Also, I run 1 houndmaster and 2 Shredders, I would never not run 2 shredders in midrange , unless I would play a more beast heavy deck with wranglers and elekk, which I feel is inferior due to inconsistency imo

I have issues with some of the cards too. Juggler...seems great but sometimes hes just a wasted 2 drop that gets killed immediately. Its like you hold onto him waiting for that UtH or something. It never comes and then hes just bleh. Seems like you play the game just to combo Juggler. Traps & Scientist - like Juggler, I feel like I let these cards dictate my play or something. Its such a drag when you have traps in hand with Scientist. So ineffecient and wasteful. And, Freezing trap is great for tempo but many times your opponent knows youre running it and just happens to spring it with a Healing minion, a charge minion or a good silencer. You just gave THEM tempo. Zoinks.
Highmane is a great card but Priests outright kill it, Paladins Peacekeeper it(set attack to 1, now useless), and Mages Fireball/Sheep it. The resulting Hyenas are nice but dont last long. Even Hunters can use a Kill Command on it. Ouch. My 6 drop just got bitchslapped, LOL. Webspinners are frustrating too. Ya just dont know what yer gonna get. Its truly 50/50 being good or bad. If they live... the 1/1 body is just so wimpy.
But, what do I know, right? :) Maybe I should just start from scratch and make some crazy decks to play on Casual with? hehehehehe

This is pretty much my EXACT decklist except for 2 cards.
First, you bitch about freezing trap yet run 2, also bitch about juggler yet dont run snake .
How about we start by replacing a freezing with snake ? Pallies wont be able to slam their 1-1 after muster into the juggler as you will get 3 juggles, sometimes killing 2 dudes, making t hem have to ram the weapon +1 dude, leaving you with 3 snakes . Also, that increases your Houndmaster consistency which you run 2 of .
Speaking of houndmaster, that is the other card I run one of . I play 1 hunter's mark, it is a card I did not like at first, but it is very important to run one of . When facing a board with lots of dude along with a fatty , that UTH gets MUCH better with that hunter"s mark .
So yea, your decklist is mine -1 freezing -1houndmaster +1 snake +1 hunter mark and it got me to legend pretty easily
Hey man, sorry to hear you're having a rough time with this deck. Changes I'd make to it are as follows. -1Webspinner, -1 Freezing Trap, -1 Houndmaster, -1 Haunted Creeper, +2 Bear Trap, +2 King's Elekk. Will help get more on the board early. Love that turn two bear trap because it assures you'll have a minion up on turn 3 if he's put something down on turn two. Kings elekk is a solid 3/2 body that also has the chance to let you draw into your late game cards which is also such a huge bonus. I love webspinner, and haunted creepers but they just don't do much for your board presence and tempo early in the game. It's great to get that juggler combo working with the cheap cards but that's not what midrange hunter is about. Use it as a nice addition to tempo rather than the integral goal of the deck. I mulligan hard for my scientists/elekks and bear traps to at least get some good gear on the board early. It seems like you allow certain cards to really dictate how your entire deck plays out. Your goal is to play a good trading card each turn and to build board presence towards late game. Use jugglers like a standard 3/2 and just throw him down. Anything he gets on top of just him as a 3/2 is a bonus.
Starting to get pretty irritated now. People keep praising these mid-range Hunter Decks and they are NOT cutting it. Whats the trick? Whats the deal? What matchups are simply bad?

I dunno.
I win due to skill and lose due to bad RNG. :D
Hero power every turn
Say "Wow" for RNG!
Also, I play on NA
you need to just learn the deck and hunter in general. midrange hunter is more of a tempo deck. you need you treat it as a bursty deck not just say a combo/control deck. the reason decks seem so good against it is because they are built to counter midrange hunter and patron.

:) Maybe I should just start from scratch and make some crazy decks to play on Casual with? hehehehehe
I win due to skill and lose due to bad RNG. :D
