I feel like I'm doing alright with other classes/decks I've made but I'm a bit stuck with Druid. I've tried putting together Druid decks before but they are literally outclassed, as nothing I've done seemed to work competitively or as well as my other class decks. Personally I'd like to be giving Taunt Druid a try but I lack Hadronox and Malfurion the Pestilent to do so and no desire to craft them right now, as I'm mostly looking to play standard/will be saving up for new expansions.
What's the best Druid deck to play right now? Taunt, Token, something else? I've a new but good collection, still I'm lacking some cards and not looking to craft any unless it's from the classic set. I could use some help learning what's good in Druid right now so I can try to craft a deck around it.
You don't need malfurion for taunt druid, it lterally disrupts the main strategy of the deck, the only reason for taunt druid being good is Witching Hour being able to bring Hadronox back and if you play malfurion you'll put extra beasts on the beasts pool.
Havingsaid that you definitely need Hadronox, Oakhearth and The Lich King and some core epics like Primordials, Dragonhatchers and Branchings.
Finally as for your question Taunt Druid is definitely the strongest Druid deck atm and then you have Maly/Togg Druids and Token Druid... Imo any variation on Maly Druid (with or without Togg or even full Togg decks) are better than Token, the latter is easier to play and can win harder from time to time but it has a bunch of awful match-ups on the current meta tbh.
I would say token druid is your best bet. It's the cheapest to craft and I personally think its the best performing druid deck (think taunt is the most popular though). However, don't expect to be crushing.
Since at it's core, druid was known to be a ramping class, the biggest variations of this in the current meta are Taunt Druid and Spiteful Druid (and sometimes Big Druid with the dragons). In which case, Nourish is probably the most important card from the classic set.
If you don't wish to craft the DK nor Hadronox right now, I'd say hold off on playing the class until later. The druid archetypes are super FeelsBadMan to play right now - Taunt loses to polymorph, hex and raptors; Token loses to warlock and warrior, Malygos loses to weapon destruction. The most powerful druid is the one that is the least countered wherever you are on the ladder
All the good classic druid cards have been nerfed to the ground so you won't need to worry about any of that, other than perhaps nourish. If you're looking to "learn" druid, Taunt druid is by far the easiest competitive druid to play, though it doesn't play very druid-like compared to the other two
I have a really strong quest druid deck, doesn't use malfurion. PM if you're interested. so far over 60% WR in over 150 games. Really strong matchups against everything in the meta but odd pally and odd rogue

unfortunately, the classic druid cards dont see much play anymore. Keeper of the Grove, Ancient of Lore, and Innervate all got nerfed, and no one plays Ancient of War anymore.
