"Spell Damage is an ability which boosts the overall damage of spells by the listed amount". So, each spell have its base damage + the possible spell damage increased by other cards that have been played. If you lose the resource that gives you spell damage, you lose it.
So base damage and spell damage are clearly separated. It'll add 1 more damage to the base version.

This! I love mage but it was too OP before this, now every single deck will run this and there is no answer to it except deck burn unless your running paladin/mage with their secrets teched in. The 2 cost makes it hard to trap ignite with secrets though... Change ignite so the cost goes up by 2 each time and it will be more balanced.

Yes, but is it one more than the spell ended up doing, or one more than was printed on that copy of the card?
I took it to mean it adds one each time, so 2 damage, then 3 damage, then 4 damage, etc.
It's like Rattlegore.
There's a bunch of hidden versions of the card that each do one more damage than the previous one.
Think of them as ranks.
So rank 1 does 2 damage, rank 2 does 3, rank 3 does 4, etc.

Deal 2 damage. Add an Ignite [Rank 3] to your deck.

Yes, spell damage will add to it. Spell damage is tacked on after the spell is cast, no reason it wouldn't
