So naxxramas brought up a lot of high value cards including Haunted Creeper , wich was just a great replacement for Loot Holder in numerous decks. Token also was not an exception and kicked ass almost to everyone, then apparently hunters raised up and that was a really tough times for poor Tokerino. But not any more ...
To begin with I'd like to thank you guys for a great feedback, since it was my first deck released I didn't know what would you think about it. So know I present you a particular guide.
Overview and strategy.
Most of you know what does Token means and basic rules of palying it. But just in case concept of Token is getting board stuff for free , e.g. Harvest Golem ( second Golem for free) , Violet Teacher (free 1/1 after using a spell) and then pushing your opponent with them. Of course by itself those minions suck , but that's why we are holding combo cards such as Power of the Wild or Savage Roar.
Token is more likely an aggro deck with a main point of setting your opponent for a strong combo finisher, but I personaly don't like this classification, becase if you don't have a board control the game is more likely to change not in your favour . That's why I've set it as a combo deck , because you have an opportunity both controlling and rushing your opponent ( as druid class itself very situative). Long story short - fill up your board as fast as you can and eleminate your opponent's serious threats ( which can affect your winning scenario).
Mulligans and matchups.
Main thing here is to mulligan for an early game threats , such as Echoing Ooze, Argent Squire and Harvest Golem. In case of having coin also consider Shade of Naxxramas and Keeper of the Grove. Also keeping PoW in your starting hand isn't the worst thing to do, since it can be used as 3/2 ( not recommended but sometimes necessary).
Important thing! - never throw away an Innervate (only if you have two of them in your hand). This card is just too good to pass up . You can also keep Keeper of the Grove, Shade of Naxxramas or even Violet Teacher.
Hunters
Extremely popular class nowadays , but luckily for us not a difficult matchup. I personaly prefer to keep Echoing Ooze with PoW to play around Explosives . Also Shade of Naxxramas is a dangerous threat for Hunter to deal with, since it grows really fast and hard to remove.
Develope you board and rush him as fast as possible.
"Note"- In this matchup it's not so important to control your opponent's threats , simply because your board is much better and he will be liely trying to stabilize his position ( but in vain ). If the game is comming for the late I would recommend to keep Ancient of Lore for heal, just in case having Leeroy + Kill Command in his dirty hand.
Mages
Also a really popular mathcup , with 70% secret possibility. Play around Mirror Entity and you'll be fine. If it's an aggro then think about controling the board and watch for Pyroblast. In really-really rare case scenarios wild Doomsayer appers and from now you are playing against Freeze Mage , but that's literally the most rare matchup for now, so keep in mind you would need your Ancient for heal.
Mulligan for Keeper of the Grove and some early game threats.
Paladin
Not a favorable matchup, but still not the hardest one. I can't recommend anything specific just because I haven't seen much of them . Jyst try to push him before Tirion and when he does have an answer for it . Also don't overwhelm you board, giving him a chance to turn your minions into x/1 communisnts useless crap.
Zoo
Probably the best matchup. Simple strategy "controling and pwning" works just fine. Don't be afraid to use Force of Nature to clear his stuff and keep your Swipe for a wise swing.
Handlock
Also rare matchup , with all those pesky Hunters. But just in case you are so unlucky to play against one of them rush them as fast as possible and don't think much about Giants ( you won't be able to deal with them anyway) . Remember , you are looking for 1 turn kill so keep at least 3-4 minions on board and then savage roar them.
P.S. The Black Knight is a real MVP here.
Control Warrior
Also haven't played much against them . Nothing specific , except for playing Shade of Naxxramas as fast as possible and not letting him have any armour at all. The Black Knight here is also great.
Miracle
Play around Blade Fury and banish anything your opponent brings . You DONT want to take any damage at all so make your best. If sure your boad is superior go for the precious face, setting him up for combo.
Priest
Nothing much to say, for me it's basically 50/50 . If know something more please share your oppinion on it .
Cards to consider
Loatheb - really strong agaisnt mirror matchup and Hunters if used correctly , but NOT as just a 5/5 . In current meta I personally don't think he is much better then The Black Knight, but it's up to you.
Druid of the Claw- good card, I won't argue with that , but ask your self if it worth secon Force of Nature or Black Knight ?
Haunted Creeper - Very annoying card and adds some temp, but Ooze is the way better . since you can have 2- 1/2 immediately , making it good for combo.
Spectral Knight- Well, maybe I am not Kolento to listen to me, but I won't recommend you putting any of them in your deck. It's really hard to play it just in time and unfortunately easy to remove (basically +1 HP Yeti , but you can't use spells on him , which is not a big deal). But just a huge influence on your temp.
Force of Nature- Highly recommend you to have both of them in you deck , since your chance of having combo turn 9 is just great. Also you can use one of them to clear some of your opponent's stuff ( rare occasions). It's not an overkill and simply can't be changed with any other card. If you don't have the second one - that's the first card to craft.
Hope this guide will help you reach Legend rank even faster. If you have some difficulties in playing it or still have some questions simply ask me , I'll be more than happy to help you.
P.S. If you have some difficulties in playing it or still have some questions simply ask me , I'll be more than happy to help you. And don't forget , if you are new to this deck practise a bit in Normal mode and wait at least until day 10 of the season ( if don't feel confident against current legend ).
And thank you guys , just to let know- you are awesome :) Keep practise and the result won't take long to appear!
Oh and what is the reason that you don't play any taunts? Like no sludge or not twice druide? I mean taunt seems pretty important at some point, dont you think?
This deck is intended aggresive, taunt cards are a bit 'slower', they cost one mana more usually compared to a card without taunt. If you play taunt against a zoo lock, you let him choose how to deal with the trading. If you play more aggresive, you trade a little and go for his face quickly.
pretty awful vs. hunters who actually know what they are doing.
I would say there aren't much of the on ladder . Hunter itself is a very strong class to play in current meta , but as we know amount doesn't mean quality . So you just need to practice some time more and would see how easy the game is going ...
This deck is really fun. I still don't have last wing of naxx so I made some changes. Instead of Echoing Ooze I got Haunted Creepers and instead of Shade of Naxxramas I took Defender of Argus and Loatheb. Deck is still playable although hunters matchups is 50/50. I am also thinking of changing Druid of the Claw for Sludge Belcher as he is more annoying to deal with but on the other hand extra charge is sometimes really helpful. Anyway, great deck to play as I love druids. Thanks ;)
Hi,
Thanks for the great deck. I am enjoying the deck quite a bit, and it seems really good so far.
Although, I am having a lot of difficulties with zoo. You mentioned that zoo should be an easy matchup, but I can't seem to pull it off. I am usually overwhelmed by their board, and swipe rarely helps since their monsters have above 2 health. So majority of the time I only get to kill 1 monster off of swipe. If you can provide any insight on how to deal with zoo's, it would help me greatly. Also if you stream that would be really nice!
Thanks!
Yeah , maybe i should've writen some further information about this matchup. Try to keep Wrath or Swipe (preferable) in your starting hand and also develope your board as fast as possible. That's probably the easiest way if you only beggin using this deck. You'll get it very soon and trust me it is REALLY good matchup.
Cool, thanks for the suggestions!
I will give it a go, and hopefully it will work out better. Thanks!
What a great deck hehe - stomping huntards all the time, they have to play defensively I think in 10 games against huntards I lost one because of the draws . Also switched one Azure Drake for Loatheb, this guy is just disgusting I love him and one Force of Nature for one more Druid of the Claw because I didn't have dust for a second FoN, actually works good - usually you have some kind of board before you use Savage Roar so the second FoN is a little questionable. Very fun deck to play with also!
Only thing I lost to so far was that new control hunter that I wasn't expecting and Kolento's token deck, but that was a close matchup and i feel like this one plays against other decks better usually. I seem to miss that other Druid of the Claw but what to take out for another?
I don't know if it's just me, but i feel like there isn't enough card draw. Maybe I'm not playing this deck properly though. Could anyone elaborate?
That's a common occurence in token decks. You play more minions than say a ramp druid which in turn usually hordes a few cards.
You have to try and play a bit conservative while still maintaining a board pressence, atleast since most token decks no longer runs loot hoarders.
Call me crazy, but I swapped an Argent Squire for Harrison Jones, weapon destruction + another card draw and a nice 5/4 "creature", totally threw a hunter off and more or less won the game for me. Works well on rogues and warriors too obviously
Can KT works well in this deck?
No . Just believe me , don't even think about it. KT is a pretty solid card , at least that 's your first thought, but very situative. You have developed board on your side - good , but that 's mean you've pretty much won the game already . Right now I am thinking of where he could be fit , but definitely not Token.
What's the mulligan strategy?
I love the sound of dying Hunters in the evening.
+1
Deck looks pretty solid, I'll give it a spin. I would love to see mulligan strats for the various classes. I think that helps a lot in making a deck work.
Nice deck, just used it for my daily quest, won 5 out of 6 games, playing in ranked mode.
Yup, looks like a super-solid Token list to me! I like this a little more than Kolento's #1 legend deck because of the inclusion of Power of the Wild and Violet Teacher (wasn't really a fan of Defender of Argus in his list; felt a bit clunky without the PotW buffs to the Echoing Oozes, as well as the generally slow Spectral Knights). Also the inclusion of The Black Knight makes the deck have a better edge against taunts that block you from the Force + Roar combo. Overall, just glad to have my favourite ranking deck back in the ladder scene after a boring time getting into Midrange Hunter (never found myself liking that deck).
