Main Goal
The idea around this deck is basically to get your opponent to hit fatigue. It's not a fast deck by any means, You want to save Coldlight Oracle for when your opponent has ran out of cards, but feel free to use him sooner if you need to.
Board Control
Priest has some of the best AoE clears I've seen. These AoEs are basically to help stall the game and to keep your opponent's board clear.
- Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing - This combo has been around for quite some time. An efficient 4 damage AoE. The best part is that your opponent will try to kill Auchenai Soulpriest even though you can't heal if it's out.
- Holy Nova - 2 Damage to All Your Opponent's minions and 2 health healed to you and your minions. I mean... heals are good.
- Lightbomb - AoE based on your opponent's minions's attack. Generally use this when your opponent gets out some big nasty stuff. Generally it dies. Ysera doesn't have to worry as much. (She's still killable though. OR just Entomb her.
- [card]Excavated Evil[/card] - Deal 3 damage to all minions. Another sweet, sweet AoE. The best part is that this card, while it will get shuffled into your opponent's deck, will sometimes make it back to your hand. Since you don't play a lot of creatures; it's a dead card in their hand and deck.
Single Target Eradication (Don't judge, it sounded like a cool name)
- Shadow Word: Pain is situational, so I found running only one in the deck works just fine. I tend to save it for some of the chunkier lower attack minions.
- Shadow Word: Death - This card has saved me quite a few times. Don't waste it on Justicar Trueheart if your opponent plays one. This card can take care of Dr. Boom, Mal'Ganis, or just about anything with 5 or higher attack.
- Entomb - This card is simply amazing! I can't even recommend what you use it on. I tend to use it on anything threatening. A few noteworthy cards you could use it on are Ysera, Deathlord(if your opponent plays one), or even Antique Healbot.
- Holy Fire - 5 Damage to a minion and you heal for 5. Such an awesome card, but I only run 1 due to the fact it costs 6 mana.
Utility / Card Advantage
- Museum Curator - I simply love this card! If Deathlord, Sludge Belcher, or Zombie Chow come up in the discovery.... you may just want to grab one of those from this 2 drop nightmare.
- Coldlight Oracle - This little guy is your bread and butter... just saying.
- Brann Bronzebeard - This silly dwarf can help you achieve some interesting combos. Whether that be Museum Curator (Discover 2 Deathrattle minions), Coldlight Oracle (Everyone draws 4 cards instead of 2), or Antique Healbot (you heal for 16 instead of 8.... psst... make sure you don't have Auchenai Soulpriest out.... that would be bad.
- Cabal Shadow Priest - This is a wonderful card, and I run 2 just in case. This is more of a flexible set of card slots so feel free to use them for whatever if you don't find this card to be helpful for your playstyle.
- Shadow Madness - Another very useful spell to get rid of annoying things. Smash their minions with their own minions, use it to take advantage of a deathrattle minion, or whatever you fancy. :)
- Justicar Trueheart - This card was added to the deck for the extra healing it can give you. 4 health instead of 2 for 2 mana? Yes please. :D
Mulligan
Typically you'll want to try to get Deathlord, Shadow Word: Pain, and Museum Curator in your opening hand regardless of what class you are facing against. Don't panic if you get a bad draw.... for example: Cabal Shadow Priest, Holy Fire, and Entomb. It's not the end of the world.
Replacements
Cabal Shadow Priest - More of a situational card. I'd replace it with Sludge Belcher.
Shadow Madness - Though it's been a very useful card; if you feel the need to replace it, I'd replace it with Youthful Brewmaster or Shrinkmeister for the combo with Cabal Shadow Priest
Justicar Trueheart - Though very useful, feel free to put in Sylvanas Windrunner, Baron Geddon or something else that you desire. Be unique.
Conclusion
This deck was made due to my obsession with fatigue decks. The surprising part is that it has beaten some of the higher tiered decks... consistently. I wanted to share it with the community even though we are so close to it just being a Wild format deck, because I feel it's a fun deck to play.
Decks this deck has beaten continuously
- Mech Mage
- Freeze Mage
- Face Hunter
- Injured Camel Hunter
- Secret Paladin
- Murloc Paladin
- Dragon Priest
- Handlock
- Demonlock
Decks this deck has a hard time with
- Elise Control Warrior (Simply because of Elise. Try to burn the Golden Monkey so you don't have to worry about a murderous group of Legendaries. Get rid of that, and you will win.
- Mill Rogue - This fight varies, but generally they can burn your cards faster due to the Coldlight Oracle + Shadowstep combo.
- Fatigue Druid - This fight is rough.... really rough.
- Egg Druid - Holy Crap, completely decimated! Soul of the Forest is totally an MVP!
Feel free to share your conquests, disasters, and anything else you wish. This deck has been a lot of fun to play, and I wanted to share it with you all. Oh. That reminds me.
I never said the deck was easy to learn or play. If you lose with it, be patient and keep playing it. It does require some thought and patience.
Good Luck :)
Loving this deck, thanks for the post! I have managed to wreck Zoolocks so many times even though my Deathlords pulled out two Sea Giants in one game. Do you have any opinions how this deck archetype is going to cope with the upcoming standard mode? In my opinion it is really hard to find replacements for Lightbombs and Deathlords. I sure do hope that Fatigue Priest is still viable after the expansion!
As of right now I'm not sure. Deathlord is a really useful card for pulling things out of peoples's decks. Sometimes you get lucky and grab a battlecry Justicar Trueheart or Elise. They never get the effects from it.
I'd say for right now that time will tell. Basically we'd just need more heals and hopefully a new board control spell.. but... there is that new one coming out of WOG that destroys 2 attack or less creatures. Maybe a Confuse + combo?
Thanks for making this, I like Priest, experimental decks early in the season, and mill/fatigue. Been losing a lot of close games with Mill Druid (finally almost viable because of Poison Seeds/Explosive Sheep interaction change), and want to give something else a try. Will try it.
Overall: 5-3 (rank 16-15; beginning of season). It is actually not a bad deck. Will keep experimenting.
There is a thread here with an alternate build that removes the Auchenai/Circle combo in favor of Thoughsteal/Doomsayer (some other small changes). Note that the original list was pre-LoE so does not have curator/Entomb, but the author agrees that Scarab->Curator and 2 Entombs go in.
HAha! That is awesome!!!! Patron is indeed tough if you don't get the right amount of removal. Excavated Evil is useful though. I never thought about running Mind Control though it makes perfect sense.
To be honest, I've experimented with every class; hoping each one offered a reasonable fatigue deck style option. So far...
1. Fatigue Lock. - Problem was the hard removal. Explosive Sheep + Hellfire is a beautiful 6 mana combo.
2. Fatigue Hunter - Feign Death + Dancing Swords, Deathlord, and Explosive Sheep
3. Fatigue Shaman - Seems viable, but not conclusive currently.
4. Warrior. - Iron Juggernaut and high survival is awesome!
Of course there's Mill Rogue and Fatigue Druid. They are great to an extent.
Well, fatigue warrior is a pretty solid deck. I've never tried Fatigue Hunter, sounds...not so good. Fatigue lock would have potential, I would think, especially with Finley to change hero power late game.
I have played a bit of fatigue-ish shaman, Elemental Destruction is a great clear but only having those & Lightning Storm is just not enough AoE.
You left out Mage - Fatigue Mage is not bad at all, with doubles of Nova/Doom,Blizzard,Flamestrike, often Sheep as well gives you tons of AoE, and then value engines like Duplicate, Echo, Conjurer so that your few minions can be multiplied and last all game. It's not bad at all.
Wow! Thanks for the feedback and for the other thread recommendation.
I did totally forget Fatigue Mage. A lot of fun too, but can run out of steam if cards aren't played at the right time.
And yes. Druid.... is just evil.
Any thoughts on adding Elise over Holy Fire?
She would grant an extra card and a taunt minion down the road in an emergency situation.... you wouldnt have to play the card unless you were facing a loss i guess.
Elise has caused some slight issues with the deck. (Not playing her, but having someone play her.) I tend to try to burn their cards if they do play her.
To be honest with you... if you feel Elise would give you a bit more extra "omph" to get the job done... by all means man, use her. The reason for Holy Fire is simply for the additional heal and to take out a chunky minion. I like the way you're thinking though. "Outside of the box" and that's what this deck was meant to be. :)
Best of luck to you.
Nice deck, looks a lot like most Fatigue Priests with Coldlight as a tech. Also nearly Standard-ready but I'm sure there's a good replacement for all that stuff. I'll definitely give your list a shot.
Awesome! Best of luck. I've ran into some decks in the past hour that gave me a run for my money.
When you say "most Fatigue Priests", can you give some sample lists? I haven't really seen fatigue priest, unless you count the Shadowform decks.
I'd assume he could be referring to any Control Priest that basically prolongs the game into Fatigue mode. I could be wrong.
so far I win a good percentage of matches against a variety of decks. I don't run a tracker, but I know that I climbed from rank 17 to rank 13 and currently on a win streak with it. :) Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you like it. :D
