Rdu shared this deck on stream today. This is the first time I've seen a pro run a TGT Tempo Mage without secrets! He made a good point: if you draw a secret, it slows down your pace a lot. For a Tempo Mage, that can be disastrous.
This deck has loads of cheap spells to fill out your mana curve and proc Flamewaker or Archmage Antonidas. With Sorcerer's Apprentice, there are five spells you can play for free, which helps with early board control. It's a perfect deck for Spellslinger too, because you're more likely to have the spare mana for that extra spell.
In the late game, you've got a choice of four excellent legendary cards to finish your opponent off. Each of these has seen extensive play in Tempo Mage. Because you've freed up 4 or 5 slots, you can tuck even more in there! You can even include a Flamestrike too, you lucky thing.
Still hesitating? Ask yourself, what's your third secret? Counterspell gets screwed by The Coin and 1-mana spells. Effigy can easily be terrible value in a Tempo deck. Two Mad Scientists for two secrets means a lot of deck slots and a good chance you won't get value on the second Scientist.
For those of you wondering, I think Rhonin and Nexus-Champion Saraad are too slow for this deck. As for winrate, this deck hasn't seen enough play to generate useful stats.
I've heard tons of pro-gamers say that Tempo Mage is great for laddering right now (S19). If you give this deck a try, don't forget to report back on your results! Feel free to ask any questions too, bearing in mind that the deck isn't mine :-)
Just tried this deck for laddering, 10 matches only, here are the results:
1. druid win
2. paladin win
3. warrior win
4. paladin win
5. paladin win
6. hunter win
7. druid win
8. priest lose
9. hunter lose
10.hunter win
Pretty solid deck IMO, gonna post some more results later, bear in mind that I tried the deck from rank 18-15
Promising start! Thanks so much for reporting your results :-)
Here's another 10 matches for today:
1. priest win
2. warrior win
3. mage win
4. shaman win
5. paladin lose
6. mage win
7. paladin lose
8. paladin lose
9. paladin lose
10.druid win
Starting to see a pattern here, all paladin loss are secret paladins, rank 15-13
Ouch! Damn those Secret Paladins. You could try swapping out the Piloted Shredders for Water Elementals, that should help the match-up against aggro and weapons classes.
I do agree water elementals would help against weapons classes, however against aggro I don't think it would help much, this deck lacks board clear (only 1 flamestrike), most of the time I'm already dead before turn 7 anyways so maybe arcane explosion..?
BTW, Here's another 10 matches:
1. dragon priest win
2. patron warrior win
3. dragon priest win
4. patron warrior lose
5. mech mage lose
6. tempo mage lose
7. midrange paladin win
8. mech mage win
9. midrange hunter win
10. secret paladin lose
Figure I'll start noting the decks I was up against to see the matchup rank 14-12 this time...
Arcane Explosion is more for Malygos decks. You could drop an Arcane Blast and add a taunt like Annoy-o-Tron or Sludge Belcher, which could stall them long enough for you to make favourable trades and make use of your Flamewaker as a board clear tool.
Fel Reaver is a bitch of a card, but don't forget the sheer number of cards you can destroy. Play five cards with it on the board and the guy loses half his deck right there. Your other major tools are Sylvanas Windrunner and the two Fireballs.
With a Druid-heavy meta, the benefits of Mirror Entity increase... maybe a more classic Tempo Mage would be the way to go if you want to improve that match-up.
Hmm, I think Annoy-o-Tron is the way to go here against aggro meta, however I'm not sure about dropping Arcane Blast for it, that card is always useful to kill early drops and also cheap to trigger both Mana Wyrm and Flamewaker, any other subs?
Tough one. Clockwork Gnome is probably your best candidate. The Spare Part isn't that valuable, and you aren't exactly short of spells in the mid-game anyway.
