Post TGT [Update]
- Illidan Stormrage has been removed (he will be missed) for the inclusion of Varian Wrynn. This is the type of deck Varian clearly wants to be in, and it shows.
- APiloted Shredder has be re-added and a Bolster removed
Notable:
Commanding Shout
I have been saving Commanding Shout to use with Grim Patron and Warsong Commander as a robust board clear. Though saying 'saving' would not be entirely accurate since it's a natural progression. However there might be cases where you might find Commanding Shout useful, but keep in mind you lose that Patron option should you decide to use it elsewhere. As long as it gives you strong tempo gain it has been used well. Please do not use the card just to cycle, with the exception of you looking for a hail mary.
Pre TGT:
Welcome Everyone!
This has been the warrior I have been using for a while and I have a lot of fun playing it. I created this deck in the early phase of BRM when Grim Patron was new and when Face Hunter just would not stop popping up at LEAST ever other match on the ladder. It has served me well against the early Patron decks and Face Hunters, which it locked out very nicely.
When King's Defender was first announced I was happy that I already had this deck for the weapon to fit in, but then the text changed and that dream was crushed. However, we now have another great tool which facilitates the deck's use of Taunts in the card Bolster.
I removed a Piloted Shredder and a Cruel Taskmaster from the original deck list (so you can try the original build if you like) to include double Bolster. That surely might not be the final change, but I figured I would finally share the deck and get opinions. I have a lot of fun decks sitting around and TGT is showing me a lot of cards that make them stronger. This is just the first of many to come.
Few Highlights:
The deck had x2 Grim Patron at first, but I switched out a Patron for Illidan Stormrage to up the fun, but also for a practical reason. I use Illidan with Warsong Commander to repeatedly spawn Flame of Azzinoth to trade out.
All of that plus the Taunt minions facilitated the late game Mekgineer Thermaplugg that would spawn Leper Gnome with charge since the Warsong Commander was usually still on the board.
As it pertains to Warsong Commander, don't save her solely for Grim Patron, Illidan Stormrage and Mekgineer Thermaplugg. There are two Warsongs in the deck so feel confident about using one of them to give Sen'jin Shieldmasta, Sludge Belcher, or any of the minions with 3 or less attack charge. Make use of that ability when you have the chance to seize tempo.
I don't promise you legend, at least not yet, but I promise you one hell of a good time!
ENJOY!
Nothing is more satisfying than killing a Patron deck by using it's own activators against it with this deck. Thank you for creating my new favorite deck.
You are very welcome :)
With the upcoming Warsong nerf what cards do you think would be a good substitute for it and the Patrons now that they're almost completely useless after the patch?
This entire deck has to be rethought. Blizzard has outright slaughtered this deck with that idiotic change.
Yeah, while I hated Patron decks with a passion this is not the change it needed. This just ruined so many other decks along with the Patron when a simple "your minions with 3 attack or less get charge" could've done it.
The deck is not tailored for it (jousting) and you will likely lose far more jousts than you will likely be able to bear. Experiment away though :)
Hello i dont have mekgineer thermaplugg and what can I replace it with? Also is there any way I can use dr boom and sylvanas. I also have BGH x2 and for last what can I craft for 400 dust to make it more amazing?
I always find it interesting when players want to 'replace' cards in a deck build. The deck is built to perform in a very specific manner and not having the cards will change the deck performance greatly. Granted It could be a change for the better or for the worse. Mekgineer Thermaplugg is the card that started the build of this deck and accounts for a great deal of game winning scenarios. The card looks very much like a joke and in most decks it is. Unlike top tier legendary minions where you play them from a disadvantage and they turn the game around for you, and aren't just win more cards, Thermaplugg does require the help of other cards on the board. If you have that prerequisite in place then Mekgineer becomes a significant game changer.
Now I am not telling you to craft Mekgineer Thermaplugg, but I am saying that if you run the deck without him, you should not expect the same performance and outcome. I like players to freely experiment with decks, and due to the fact you don't have Mekgineer that is exactly what you will be doing... experimenting.
You say you want to use Dr. Boom, well you can make him fill in for your missing Mekgineer Thermaplugg. There simply aren't many slots that are flexible. You will need to experiment and see where you can fit Sylvanas Windrunner. Play the deck first and see. You need to actually play it and get a feel of what you need. For example, you might find you don't care about Bolster and you replace it for Sylvanas Windrunner.
Personally I like saving Bolster when I can so I can use Emperor Thaurissan to hit Varian Wrynn and Bolster in order to play them both on turn 10. Varian Wrynn brings in the taunts from my deck and I play Bolster to buff them instantly. Interactions like those you miss when you immediately replace cards without playing them first.
Good luck!
Glad you made it suit you. :)
Hi. I realy like your deck and maybe I'll craft some cards to try it, but now I have 3 questions:
1) What card can replace Revenge?
2) Can I include in this deck Grommash Hellscream? and what card will be excluded in this case?
3) What is the probable rank? What about matchups? this deck will be concurent for secret pals, or not?
1. As noted above Revenge was an upgrade from Whirlwind, so the replacement would be Whirlwind. While you maintain the ability to use it to facilitate Execute or deal with 1 health minions (popular with Paladins), you lose the 12 health and below 3 damage comeback against aggro.
2. You can include Grommash Hellscream if you want, and the only available slot I see would be Mekgineer Thermaplugg (completely kills the thrill of the deck, but if you must). Or it could replace Varian Wrynn since Varian replaced Illidan Stormrage.
3. I can't give a probable rank, especially if you are changing cards.
When this deck has been fully explored (given full season ladder focus) then there will be a FULL guide and breakdown of the moving parts. As it is currently, the deck is shared because it's one of the many decks that I play and I can't write a full guide for every deck at once. This one will have its time, but for now, experiment and have fun.
If you are looking for a tried, true, and tested build to climb ranks, I can not recommend CRAFTING this, because I can't give you any assurances. What I can say is that when I do use it, it shows enough strength to be worthy of exploration into making it refined.
This is so damn cool, I've been looking for a way to make Mekgineer Thermaplugg work, this is working decently. However, why the Sunwalkers? And wouldn't it make sense to put in Gorehowl instead of a Fiery War Axe since you're really just attacking minions anyway?
You are welcome to try a Gorehowl in place of a Fiery War Axe. It does make sense in terms of the late game, I passed over the option because aggro has been too strong, and having both War Axes early helps. If the game/meta can slow down a bit with TGT (hopefully) Gorehowl would be a no brainer.
The reason for Sunwalker is the difficulty in them being removed, and also helping Mekgineer Thermaplugg maximize spawns. I have a Mekgineer Druid deck and the reason it works well there is because it is hard to get through Druid taunts like Ancient of War. Because the opponent has to keep trading into the taunt they provide great value in Leper Gnome spawns. Sunwalker having a divine shield makes this easier to accomplish than the other taunts, and Priests also have no easy solution to it.
Nitrodin is a difficult deck to alter without breaking, so I tinker with it A LOT. If I were to update the deck list every time I update the build it would be too frequent and confusing. I am waiting for a build that is a true version 2 before I update, the deck has not been forgotten. With TGT around the corner, there are cards I already see making an entry into the deck, at the very least for testing.
The win condition is multifaceted, there is no singular win condition. The deck causes aggro to burn through their resources in an attempt to eat through taunts and as such wins purely by wearing the opponent out.
Against mid range, it's a equal match due to the bodies of the minions used in the deck. Also the scale is tipped in your favor because of the Weapons that allows you to remove potential damage to your minions so they can get better trades later. It's a team play of your minions trade while you armor, and when you trade they go face or clean up the weaker minions.
The late game where you get combo pieces like Grim Patron, Illidan Stormrage and Mekgineer Thermaplugg is where you start to take an aggressive approach against control decks. The use of Commanding Shout is a major player in taking complete control of the board. The Patrons are really there to clear and they can clear every and anything once they work under the use ofCommanding Shout. That doesn't mean you save Commanding Shout for only that purpose, that is an example of just one of the many facets available.
I don't even really know what to call the deck, it has combos, it is strongly about control, but also tempo. It's a Tempo Control so to speak, more emphasis on control. I like decks like these where I get to change gears. Sometimes the deck surprises me with a combination I never thought to do because I never found myself in that particular situation before.
One thing I can say is that if you use the deck, try using the cards based on 'feel' and not how others have already used (established) them.
