Hello, a lot of you guys probably know me from my hunter and mage guide. Today, I would like to share with you a deck that helped me finish in top 100 in both January and February 2015. (#85 Jan, #88 Feb). Let me know if you have any question, I'll try to answer asap.
Updated May 21, 2015: Scarlet Rogue :) Credit goes to Justsaiyan.
Why Oil Rogue? This deck's real counter is only warrior but there are only a few of them on ladder thanks to Fast Druid & Mid-range Hunter. That's the reason why Oil Valeera is considered the strongest deck in Tempo Storm's ladder tier list. Clear your opponent's board and also hit their face for tons of damage. Value ???
How to play this deck? You stall until you draw your damage and burst your opponent in 1 or 2 turns. Or you can just control the board and never let it go until the end.
The Dream: Southsea Deckhand (HAHA) -> Prep -> Oil -> Prep -> Oil -> Deadly Poison -> Deadly Poison -> Barber -> Blade Flurry.
Mulligan guide:
- Mirror match: Loatheb, Backstab, Deadly Poison, SI, Violet, Shredder, Azure Drake.
- Aggro (Mech Mage, Face Hunter, Mid-range Hunter, Zoo, Mech Shaman): Backstab, SI, South Sea Deckhand, Deadly Poison, Eviscerate, Barber. Prep, Thalnos and Flurry can be kept in some situation.
- Druid: Violet, Shredder, Azure Drake, Eviscerate, Sap, Prep. Thalnos can be kept to prevent turn 2-3 Shade.
- Heavy Control (Warrior, Priest): Sprint, Violet, Shredder, Azure Drake, Deadly Poison, SI. Prep can be kept if you already have Sprint.
- Mid-range Shaman: Blade Flurry, Backstab, SI, Violet. Deadly Poison, Barber, Shredder.
- Paladin & Demonlock: Fan of Knives, Violet, Backstab, SI, Deadly Poison, Blade Flurry, Shredder, Barber.
- Handlock: Azure Drake, Thalnos, Violet, SI, Shredder, Sap.
Tech Cards:
- Harrison: improve warrior matchup and give you a huge advantage in the mirror matchup. Remember, warrior's still favored even if you run Harrison.
- Another Violet: good against druid and some aggro matchups. Horrible against Unleash the Hounds and screws your Oil a lot of times.
- Another Shredder: good against control, meh against aggro.
- Assassin's Blade: pray your opponent doesn't run Harrison. Oh, well.
- Auctioneer: I've tried Auctioneer for a while but did not like him so I'd say Sprint is better.
- Far Seer: good against aggro, meh against control.
How to replace Bloodmage Thalnos ? I'm tired of this kind of question. Please don't ask me again. You CAN'T replace him, that's why he's a legendary card. Feel free to try Kobold or Loot Hoarder, but DON'T expect the same winrate. Got it?
What would you replace to put it in?
Decklist updated.
niceee!!! i love it!!
What about this card? Gang Up ? i heard gang up would be good in this deck on a stream
I've been having some success with this deck. Mine is similar except I run Toshley. My games seem to be going quite late, almost to fatigue. Am I playing this wrong?
I shouldnt be so picky because I am winning with it but I just wonder if I am playing it wrong.
ehh play more aggressive i guess
Is there any room for Edwin in the deck?
Yes. -1 Barber +1 Edwin.
Hi, i want to ask you something, when do i have to play thalnos?
i had this question since i begun playing hs, idk if its for the card drawing or for de +1 spell dmg
If you have a shitty hand, play it to draw. Otherwise, hold it to combo with spells.
Thalnos is there for both the +1 and the card draw: you can play it before backstab, eviscerate, flurry and whatnot, in order to increase your damage, and next turn it recycles itself drawing a new card!
Hi yell9x,
I have been having incredible success with your variation of Oil! I must say it is quite the creation.
Would just like to ask your opinion on the differences between this deck and Tesla's Oil, namely:
-1 Violet Teacher +1 Piloted Shredder
-2 Earthen Ring Farseers +2 Goblin Auto-Barber
What is the reason for these changes? And how does it affect the playstyle of the deck? Which do you personally think is stronger on the ladder currently?
Thanks,
-ML4A
I make some changes pretty much every time I play. Depends on what I expect to play against at that time.
I think 1 Farseer is nice for a 3-drop and has the additional heal for worst case scenarios. So I just swapped out one Barber for it ;)
Yeah it should be fine.
Are Defias Ringleaders good?
Hell no.
Recently, I've seen quite a lot of Oil Rogue decks that run him and Perdition's Blade.
Why?
That's fast rogue, not oil rogue.
i'll participate in a tournament this weekend, any changes that can help me to improve my posibilities to win or at least to advance?
