I was playing some mediocre decks and fell into dumpster ranks (around 4000), it was really frustrating getting fucked by mages so i decided to search for the best mage counter and i found this hunter deck on HSReplay. I think this is the most optimal list, i wouldn't change a single card. It's amazing against mage (18-6) and paladin (11-4), after the nerfs there should be more warlocks around and this deck seems good against them aswell (5-0), the worst matchup is priest (0-4) and the games weren't close, priests absolutely obliterate this deck.
Update: just played 10 more games and won every single one, the deck is extremely consistent, not sure why we don't see more hunters on ladder.
Mulligan: always keep Intrepid Initiate, Imprisoned Felmaw, Adorable Infestation, Wolpertinger and Demon Companion. Scavenger's Ingenuity is a very good card and i usually keep it but if i'm playing against mage without coin and i don't have a 1 drop i would skip it, it's crucial to put pressure from turn 1. Sometimes i would keep Headhunter's Hatchet (if i have Wolpertinger+another 1 drop). Sometimes i keep Rinling's Rifle (if i am playing against paladin/rogue and already have a good opener). Also sometimes i keep Tour Guide and Wound Prey (if i have Adorable Infestation or to activate Intrepid Initiate effect). Never keep Quick Shot, Tracking and remaining cards which are not in the list above.
Some tips: against mage always keep in mind secrets they might play next turn and try to create a perfect situation where neither Ice Barrier or Counterspell will prevent lethal (for example you might want to save Tracking if you have 1-1 and Piercing Shot in hand to play around Counterspell), same goes for Oh My Yogg!. Also sometimes you should hold on to your spells to play around Netherwind Portal (they have a lot of burst damage and an early 4 drop might connect few times to face and mage will race you faster because of it) or if you have two 1-1s you might want to play around Ice Barrier and not attack face (assuming you put opponent's health low enough already) and usually i don't play Trampling Rhino on the empty board, i would rather play 1 drop and press extra hero power. Of course these tips are situational and you shouldn't always play like that, take your time, analyse your hand and play according to what you have. Have fun!
i feel ya. i mostly play control and simply struggle with face decks. Probably inexperience with them though :)
played a few games, i noticed if you cant seal the deal by turn 7 you pretty much are done for, it doesnt have much oomph after that
I mean, that's the whole point of a face deck, no? Burn out the opponent before they can get it going.
Hey, 5-6 currently. Went from diamond 5 back to diamond 5. It's... average? Like midrange dh or murloc shaman. Decent but lacks the finishers sometimes and it's terrible if you don't get a 1 drop turn 1
True, skipping turn 1 significantly lowers the winrate. Also after the nerfs face hunter became extremely popular, it's a new deck to beat like mage was before the nerfs, so i expect the rise of priests and other unfavorable matchups, let's hope our warlock friends will keep them in check with the help of Tickatus :)
I Tried hard this deck from diamond 5 and I just got legend in few hours, thank you so much!
Credit where credit is due, this is a list from Viper who played it at GM.
At 1500 legend I'm 2-2 with it now, I will see how it goes during the weekend.
Are u the owner? So why bother? Internet copyright officer? What a joke dude...he even said he found the deck on HS replay. it's not even a original list, many was playing knife vendor and Rhino in older face hunter more than a week before Rotation. gtgd
Great deck. Just head the quickest game ever against a warlock (4 turns). 3-0 so far and will probably keep going!
Doesn't do well against Paladin. Not enough draw in the deck.
Personally i had success against paladins, 16-4 overall score and average game lasted 6.2 turns so basically you have to kill them before they use Libram of Hope otherwise you're screwed and i don't think card draw would change anything since you want to spend all your mana at the start building a board and then on turns 4-7 play burn spells with hero power or use Trampling Rhino, you don't have time to sit back and draw cards. But i can totally see this deck not doing well against paladins, just checked the overall winrate on HSReplay against secret libram paladin and it's extremely low-30%, before checking i thought it's around 45% based on my personal experience. If you want more card draw-you can try version with Barak Kodobane and Mankrik but i doubt it will improve paladin matchup.
That makes sense I've only played about 10 games with the deck but I've had terrible early game draws and have been going against board clearing control decks constantly. I have had some good games with the deck though.
Awesome Deck, went 10-1 to Platinum 6
Yes, goes in and does the job. I agree nothing needs swapping here but if I had to it would be the Wound Prey's.
Edit; went from Diamond 7 to Legend with this deck, ez wins.
thankz 2-0 currently
works very fine
Second that: 4-0 in 24 minutes (and I'm really not an aggro player... Just wanted to do my weekly quest, I otherwise just try things in casual)
