The spell itself isn't great honestly much better spells to run over it, however if you concider  Arcane Wyrm, Arcsplitter creating up to 6 Arcane Bolts, and Aegwynn, the Guardian for +2 spell damage effect, Magister's Apprentice, for reduction, Vexallus Double casting.

I can see potential in a fairly consistant OTK Mage 

It can nuke face, so it's obviously good.

This seems like a Quest Mage card. 2 damage to minions early on, 5 damage to face after quest completion.
