Upcoming Game Mode Tease

Quote from Blizzard

Good morning and happy launch week! As we prepare for tomorrow's launch and set rotation, I wanted to remind folks of this--just in case those of you who dust your rotating cards might want to hold onto them this time (at least until you see what's on the way).

New Mechanics

  • New Keyword: Finale
    • Cards with the new Finale keyword get special bonuses if playing them uses all your remaining mana.
  • New Class Keyword: Overheal
    • The new Overheal keyword will be an evergreen part of Priest’s identity, starting with Festival of Legends and this year’s Core set. Minions with Overheal trigger a special effect when they are healed above their max Health.
  • Legendary Musicians and Songs
    • Each class is getting a Legendary minion card that’s their class’s star musician, plus a Legendary spell card that represents that musician’s most famous song.
  • Instrument Weapons
    • Each class is getting a finely tuned instrument of destruction—as well as music. Some of these weapons have Deathrattle effects that improve while in play.
  • Harmonic Spells
    • Harmonic spells have two modes. The numbers on them swap between Harmonic and Dissonant frequencies each turn they’re in your hand.
  • Stunning Soloists
    • Some minions perform better in the spotlight. Soloists are minions that have special Battlecry effects if you control no other minions.

Other Mechanics

Some mechanics that were seen in previous card sets were brought back on new cards, as well as some truly new mechanics were added:

  • Death Knights are turning Deathmetal into Deathrattle support.
  • Rush is the sad new archetype attempt in Demon Hunter.
  • Hero Power Buffing is the new tune in Druid.
  • Hunter continues to improvise with its Big Beast package.
  • Copying, Discovering and recasting the Lightshow spell is Mage's new beat.
  • Paladins are bringing back the groove with the Divine Shield archetype.
  • Priest will be getting the popular new Overheal mechanic, which means lots of Healing (and fanmail).
  • Combo is back for Rogue as a focus Keyword. Word.
  • Shaman are jazzed about their Overload package, not just here but in the Core set too.
  • A new classic for Warlock: Fatigue cards, which deal damage to you and have an effect based on how many Fatigue ticks you have used.
  • Menagerie Warrior is making a comeback.
  • You can view all the new cards in our Festival of Legends Cards List.

Arena Changes

On April 11, when Festival of Legends launches, all current Arena runs will end and a new Arena season will begin. The eligible sets will rotate so that the following sets will make up the Arena card pool:

  • Core
  • Voyage to the Sunken City
  • Murder at Castle Nathria
  • March of the Lich King
  • Path of Arthas
  • Festival of Legends

Theorycrafted Decks

We created a special Decks post yesterday, with a lot of new archetypes and a lot of new deck ideas. You can find the links to that Decks post below.

Alternatively, create your own deck with the Deckbuilder, add a good guide on how to pilot the deck and help create the post-launch meta!

Signature Cards

Signature cards are being turned up to 11 in Festival of Legends! The Festival of Legends Signature cards will feature new Golden-style animations, vibrant full-color art, and thinner frames that show off more of the special alternate art. Additionally, the card text is now out of the way and shown through a tooltip when you hover over the card, so the art is front and center, getting the spotlight. Festival of Legends Signature cards will be obtainable through Festival of Legends Packs, Festival of Legends Golden Packs, and special means like events and the Rewards Track.

Starting with Patch 26.0, all Signature cards (even those from March of the Lich King) will also follow normal duplicate protection and be able to be disenchanted (but not crafted—we want them to still feel extra rare and special).

For an indepth look at not just ALL the signature cards, but also the diamond cards and the Hero skins coming with the Festival of Legends expansion, check out our fantastic Datamining Post, with visuals in 4k and 60fps!
