All The Demon Hunter Nerfs - Now Live!
After making an announcement earlier today, Blizzard followed up with a post with the details of the Demon Hunter Nerfs. Several cards had mana changes and Aldrachi Warblades had a durability change. There were also offering rate changes to a whole host of Arena cards. These changes are live in game now. Read all the details below!
Quote from BlizzardHey everyone,
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be keeping an eye on the power level of Demon Hunter. Our goal is to make changes when necessary in order to get Demon Hunter to where we believe it should be. Today, we’ll be applying the following balance updates to a few Demon Hunter cards in a server-side patch (meaning you won’t have to download anything):
- Skull of Gul'dan – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Imprisoned Antaen – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Eye Beam – Outcast Mana cost increased from 0 to 1.
- Aldrachi Warblades – Durability decreased from 3 to 2.
We wanted to get these changes out the door today, and in doing so you will only see the new stats for these cards—displayed in both red and green—in matches, not in your Collection. The red and green numbers will return to white and the cards will be updated in your Collection with a data-only patch that we’re expecting to deploy before the end of the day tomorrow.
For Arena, we’re making changes today that will see Demon Hunter class card offering rates decreased until we’re able to properly address the class with more accurate micro-adjustments in a future patch. The following cards have had their offering rates reduced in Arena:

You can say I'm just salty and having bad luck of the card draw but I just played against my first DH since the nerfs and it made absolutely no difference... hate games where you just feel like a passenger along for a ride and know that there is nothing you can do against the continual damage each turn. (I was playing a resurrect priest deck which sometimes can hold them off say 50/50 of the time). I know sometimes it is just bad card draw but this feeling seems too regular playing DH since the expansion launch...
I am glad I managed to push to legend quickly this month before the expansion dropped (incentivised by the new ranking and rewards system) but not sure by day 2 of the launch that I should already be thinking I should just go find something better to do with my time.
Just noticed the server-side change at the beginning of my match.
The nerfed cards are key cards, the increased costs are HEAVILY influencing the match. The big power plays are now 1 turn later and you cant clear the board for free. It already felt much much weaker playing Tempo Demon Hunter after only 1 game. The life steal only really mattered in the nearly non stop happening mirror matches, so that's the nerf with the least impact imo.
I know everyone is salty about the new class, but these changes are reducing the power level of DH by A LOT.
Time will tell, will see what the win-rates are tomorrow afternoon. Currently DH is at 55.3% in Standard and 58.9% in Arena.
Got to legend 30 mins ago. Had a golden skull. I'm happy.
Didn't play out to legend, but I'm about to go cash in on my Golden Skull.
*edit* Most unusual. This way of hotfix nerfs still leaves these cards in the collection at normal dust prices. I guess I'll just have to wait to DE stuff.
Sad about Aldrachi Warblades. Everything else is more than reasonable but the weapon was really nice. Too bad.
I kinda get it, though. 3 mana for deal 6, heal 6 is already kinda nice. But add in just Hero Powers, and it'd easily be deal 9, heal 9, if not more. Inner Demon or even just Chaos Strike *really* ramps up the power.
Ah, but I just love the design. Couldn't it have been a 3-mana 1/3 weapon instead? :P
It's a 2/3 lifesteal for 3.
Shamans have a 2/3 vanilla for 2 + 1 overload, so 3.
Warblades were obviously overstatted.
My launcher is broken, lol. Shows a bunch of code.
You cant heal up though. It only really affects DH in aggro matchups.
The issue is that on the turn it's dropped, it either kills a huge minion, or deals 10 face damage. And that late in the game, the DH can easily chain together spells for 20 face damage.
>on the turn it's dropped
What are you talking about? Have you even played with or against the card?
It doesn't deal the damage until 2 turns AFTER it's dropped. It literally means a dead turn 6 for them, plus you have 2 turns to prep for it.
If a DH drops it on turn 5, it is bigger because t5 isn't a huge value turn, their opponent won't have too much to capitalize on it
But T6 is a lot of value, it's the first turn you can start really playing two cards or something big. The DH has to basically give up board control to play Antaen now which is huge.
But you get one more turn to either pressure the DH or dig for answers or maybe just heal up before the card comes down.
this does almost nothing to the class
Antaen still OP in my opinion
Still not enough.
I really like what they are doing here. Getting small nerfs out quickly to at least help the problem in the short term. If they wanted to take a hard look at each card and figure out how to change it, 1, they need more data and 2, they need time to come up with the right way to change cards.
This is bullshit, its live without a patch and im losing game cause of it. Cause it suddenly appeared without any notice half of my mechanics arent working properly.
Not so much unplayable as people didn’t want to earn their wins. Everyone wants handouts. Sad state of our society but it’s true nonetheless.
Right now there are just 2 kind of players: those who play DM and those who play to counter DM, no fun at all
