Rise of Shadows Card Nerfs - What Do Pros Want To See Smacked?
IGN's Cam Shea got a chance to speak with a few of Hearthstone's pros at this past weekend's HCT World Championship and talked about card nerfs. Below you'll find our recap and you can read their thoughts it full here.
Card nerfs have been a very popular community topic post expansion launch, as they always are, though could it be different this time around? Here's what pros had to say about the Rise of Shadows set and any cards they think should get hit with the nerf bat.
- Ike thinks the meta hasn't fully progressed yet due to "sixteen of the best players ... [not] sharing anything"
- Justsaiyan says Dr. Boom, Mad Genius is a problem. Everyone is playing Warrior which means long games, he feels like not even playing mirrors. Boom is strong due to the DK rotation.
- Bunnyhoppor thinks Rogue is too strong. He also has this to say:
- Rogue opposition needs to have an answer for Waggle Pick or Raiding Party.
- Edwin VanCleef should be removed. He proposes moving Edwin to the Hall of Fame and making Preparation's effect a 2-cost reduction.
- Magic Carpet is not an issue right now but could be if Rogue gets nerfed.
- Possibly need to do something about Dr. Boom, Mad Genius because it might be healthy for player sentiment.
- Wants to see changes before Hearthstone Grandmasters begins as he doesn't want to see everyone only playing Rogue and Warrior.
- Hunterace thinks the biggest problem is EVIL Miscreant due to the Rogue pool being very strong. Bump the cost up to 4.
Proposed Nerf Targets
Some of these are conditionally, though they certainly echo community thoughts.
Your Thoughts
Are there any cards you think need to be hit with a nerf after these past few weeks of playing Rise of Shadows? Let us know down below.
Personally, I'm quite amazed Magic Carpet was even printed and will continue to quite enjoy the shenanigans in Zoolock while I still can. Increasing the cost seems like the most viable way to deal with it to keep the effect intact.
I also think that Augmented Elekk gives Warrior way too much power. Increasing its cost so it can remain a viable option for getting onto the field later in the game seems acceptable.
Elysiana nerf stops same turn copy with Baleful Banker. Also stops Warrior from hero powering same turn.
Don't see how these nerfs would "ruin" the game. There will always be a Tier list no matter what. It's about balancing the game. All these cards are OP for their mana cost.
ok some are fair but god wtf were you thinking when making dis dust-fiesta
also:soul of the forest 5 mana.........BRUH
Do you really think that power of the wild is a problem? for 2 mana it seems reasonable to me, it does nothing op even with stalladris. maybe you wanted to nerf savage roar, which can win a game easily.
Also, Spider bomb 4 mana? fireworks tech 3 mana? do you really want to make mech hunter unplayable? (nine lives for 4 mana it's not a big deal, i don't think it would effect the deck)
Omega devastator has to be a mech: just look at his artwork. It can be good if discovered by boom, but his power would be the same at 5 mana because you don't play it at turn 4 anyways. The only reasonable nerf that i can see is removing endless effect on board: like "all your mechs have rush" (and also hagatah heropower, it should cap at 1 spell for turn, like rogue DK gave only one shadow card).
Omega Defender isn't a mech and it's operated by a pilot just like Devastator. If you go just by the art there's no way Devestator is a mech. Mechs are robots. Devastator is a piloted "walker" or whatever they're called.
With Token Druid and Mech Hunter I guess maybe you could just choose one or two of those cards but something will need to be toned down in those decks if Rogue and Warrior are nerfed or it'll be like Hunterstone after the Druid nerfs all over again.
The idea of bomb warrior was doomed to be poison for the game from the beginning, its simply just not fun knowing that you could be playing the game, and suddnly, it all just ends because youre unlucky and draw literally 6 bombs on the same turn with full hp. What the bomb warriors do is tank up while shuffling these little bombs of shit into your deck, making it hard to win the game, because you have to kill them before you get "unlucky" its shitty game design, and should never have been in the game in the first place, but thats just my opinion. Theres just too many problems with bomb warrior.
Do people not realize that if they HoF Edwin VanCleef, then they have to replace him with either a brand new classic legendary, or move something from one of the sets into a permanent classic slot? You can't have rogue be the only class that has no classic legendary, folks. That doesn't work at all. Blizzard has never sent a class legendary to the HoF, and they won't start now. Besides, the cost of making Edwin VanCleef a big boy is quite steep, and insanely vulnerable to silence. Just because almost nobody has silence in their decks doesn't suddenly make Edwin VanCleef overpowered.
Edit: On second thought, bring on the Hall of Fame for Edwin VanCleef! Let's get some Sonya Shadowdancer as the permanent rogue classic legendary, in standard forever!
Just try to touch edwin... edwin is a classic god and super fun card. Just coz of stupid card's that makes story goes wrong ( raiding party/waggle pick ) ppl are talking shit about edwin. Wake up.
Nerf them all. Show me the dust.
I agree on Dr. Boom, he is way too versatile in the long game. Would be a pity to get rid of Edwin, so many old school cards are removed already, and Edwin has always been a bit weak versus silence anyway.
How about more silence effects that affect hero cards as well. for example, you silence the hero Dr. Boom and his minions aren't having rush anymore.
1) Effect of Hero Cards is a Aura, so I hope that they don't do "silent aura" cards.
2) Many classic cards go to HoF, but none was class legendary. So if they will do with Edwin, then they should do it with all of class classic legendary cards.
silence to hero is not so important, since in standard there is only doctor boom effect to be silenced.
i think they should remove endless effect (aura effect) from heroes:
1) they could make them available if certain conditions are met: your mechs have rush if your deck started with only mech minions (it's only an example)
2) they could remove completely this effect: hagatah--> max 1 spell per turn (like rogue DK), boom --> minions that you discover with your heropower have rush
these guys only talk standart... f*** standart
Because the game mode they play professionally is standard? What do you expect?
It is spelled standard.
I like the meta. I think I wont like changes this time.
It depends on what you play: may I guess?
Always.
If you like this meta and you don't want any changes, you must be at the top of the food chain
They spend countless hours dissecting the game down to its core, i'm not really going on a limb when i say that their opinion should be held at higher regard than most.
I'm also confused. Rogue opposition needs to have answers for Waggle Pick? Really? I thought ooze was an answer. You even have the flexibility of running 1 or 2 copies depending on what you want. What other answer could you possibly need to answer a weapon? It even costs 2 mana so it doesn't require a large tempo investment.
