This card is good because it thins out your deck. /s
Best card (Cleavage) of this expansion so far
Cool art, but eh yet another niche rogue class legendary. Surprise surprise.
At least warlock didn't get another Godfrey level auto-include.
what would have been better: Your Pirates have Rush. Battlecry: Summon three Pirates from your deck.
Wow, no shit nostradamus, are you saying that an effect that is literally just better would be BETTER??
Would have been nice if the effect gave them poisonous and taunt too. That might be better.
Not sure why this guy's being downvoted. He's saying he feels it would be better design, not better in power level.
There's a difference between making a counterargument and misrepresenting someone's comment for the sake of convenient ridicule.
Rank 40 noobs: diS iS sO BaD!!11!
Rank 50 noobs: This is not bad!!11eleven
Ninjwa is da bwest stweamer eva
I wanted to quote this comment of mine here which I posted below a comment because I saw so much people who is confused about recruit and summon.
Recruiting a minion is literally the same as summoning it from your deck. The one difference is the use of a keyword, which would allow special synergy with cards that target "Recruiting" if any actually existed.
Is that basically what you're saying.
Thanks for TL;DR.
I don't know to shorten things like you. Sorry for that.
Also not only "recruiting" part. It may be on a minion like "Whenever you recruit a minion, Gain +1/+1". If there is an effect like this, Even "Recruit" and "summon from your deck" is litteraly same, Captain Hooktusk's Battlecry wouldn't trigger that effect. That was the part which I wanted to point it out.
wow, not a single viable rogue card this expansion.
Unless Rogue makes a slower pirate deck (not just 100% face and tempo) I don't see this card seeing play even IF there are some more beefy Pirates to be revealed.
Exactly, rogue needs more solid heavy pirates. Turn 8 summon 3 low costs with rush is really bad.
Call to Arms saw tons of play in an aggro decks at 4 mana, and a 4 mana 6/3 is an acceptable vanilla statline. The average pirate probably has better stats than the typical 1 or 2 drop Paladin used with Call to Arms, and gaining rush is certainly a positive, so from that perspective Captain Hooktusk seems like a good value.
Of course, there's the matter of playing her on turn 8. That's late enough into the game that the relatively tiny pirate minions may not stack up against your enemy unless you're already ahead, making Captain Hooktusk look like a win more card. I don't think that's quite right, though. If your control deck opponent is about to turn the tides at turn 8, pulling something like Southsea Captain or Dread Corsair or high attack pirates like Captain Greenskin and Cursed Castaway could make the difference between losing and getting through a big taunt and pushing face damage or defending your other pirates for one more turn. She's probably a tech card for a pretty narrow set of games, but I could imagine wanting to play her from time to time.
Captain Hooktusk does have some wacky shuffle meme potential, though. Start by playing a deck with very few pirates - just Captain Hooktusk and two Southsea Captain's. Tutor for them using Raiding Party so you have them in your hand and ready to use them on curve. Fill your deck with copies of Southsea Captain using tools like Lab Recruiter with Augmented Elekk and/or Spirit of the Shark. Drop Captain Hooktusk (ideally with Spirit of the Shark in play) and laugh maniacally as you get a bunch of big Southsea Captain's with rush.
What aggro decks played Call to Arms? Please post at least one meta list from this decks, you are talking. I can only remember midrange decks, which ran Call to Arms.
Even pal before nerf was pure aggro. Some decks doesn't included even Tharim because he was too slow for them.
Here are a couple of Aggro Even Paladin decks from before the cost nerf:
And here's an Aggro Dude Paladin list from before Witchwood: https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/silentstorms-dude-paladin-hct-toronto-at-elgx-2018/
It was an incredibly common card in aggro decks, but you're right that it has seen a little play in control paladin decks as a means of deck thinning, and getting defensive cards like Dirty Rat or Plated Beetle into play more easily.
